I just needed to get this off my chest I guess. At *least* 3% of my county--and probably more--has Covid right now as we speak.
It seems like hardly anybody cares enough to so much as wear a mask to try to protect others anymore.
Now the Dice Are Rolling
I saw you in the grocery store
With your face out in the air
Shouting with your buddies
Like a drunkard on a dare
Like you’d never heard of Covid
Like you did not even care.
It didn’t have to be this way
It’s you who made the call
Now the dice are rolling
And it’s all on how they fall
Now your head is aching
And your throat is raw and sore
And when you scoff you stop to cough
Where you never did before
You can hardly get your breath now
When you run out to the store
It didn’t have to be this way
It’s you who made the call
Now the dice are rolling
And it’s all on how they fall
I think the cloth masks could have worked
If you had worn one too.
But I had to get N95s
To protect myself from you.
But you shouldn’t think that I am glad
That you've come to face your due.
It didn’t have to be this way
It’s you who made the call
Now the dice are rolling
And it’s all on how they fall
You used to call me “coward”
But the label I reject.
It’s my friends and my community
I shelter and protect
The young, the old, the folks that Death
Is trying to collect.
It didn’t have to be this way
It’s you who made the call
Now the dice are rolling
And it’s all on how they fall
Now the dice are rolling
And it’s all on how they fall.

You speak for the great majority, and with more tolerance than many.

A skillful blend of disdain and compassion. Beautiful voice.

Well done; the melody keeps it interesting even without a supporting instrument.
I'm glad to have not met the subject of your song. Toronto grocery stores have been strict about mask-wearing. (They have more trouble with distancing.)

I'm heading to chorus practice in an hour, and we all now sing with N95's. It's difficult but we do it because we care about each other. The person you're singing about could be my ex-quartet member, our former bass singer.

Too true!
