So this is not in the style i am aiming for this Fawm its a special for world ukulele day and it has a good story!
oh and its a uke doubled and the second with a psychedelic pedal; then the same uke for the solo
My wife and i were in our motor home stopped at a town called GlenMorgan (in September) IT was an oldy worldy dying town and knew it would be perfect for the songs i do with TJeff - so i wrote the lyric and he did music performed and posted in 50/90. Then while i was packing up 2 elderly ladies came and sat near the van at a picnic table. they talked about the old town the people and everything - never actually listening to each other! I wrote in my notes - 2 old ladies talking over old times.
I looked up that note yesterday and wrote this one! the lines are not the ones they said but that was the flowing jist of their conversational style
You remember Marie
The one with the blonde hair
Always with Sally
They were a crazy pair
And Alice from No 10
Whose guard dog was a goose
Her morals were , how’d you say
just a little loose
George i think was the mayor
But he’s not doing so well
And Bobs business went pretty bad
I think he’s had to sell
Jack and Pearl are still together
Thought that wouldn’t last
I thought he’d go off with Chloe
Oh i heard that shes now passed
C I remember yesterday
Like it was today
Its great that we are still good friends
Now were old and grey
C Talking over old times
An old and friendly pair
And The older that we get
the better that we were
Nancy veins are varicosed
She bandaged like a mummy
Bob at no 12 likes his pies
Phew you should see his tummy
Not many of us left now
Its all turned upside down
Who’ll remember how it was
In out tired old town
C I remember yesterday
Like it was today
Its great that we are still good friends
Now were old and grey
C Talking over old times
An old and friendly pair
And The older that we get
the better that we were

How did I miss this Uke Day song? Such wonderful and unique uke sounds, and a charming and gently humorous tale. A fun listen - a bittersweet but not-too-sad tale, and the nostalgic chords made me feel good!

I love the storytelling of the lyrics. It felt like I was right there with the two old ladies. I think I would have preferred just the ukes and the bass without the keyboard in the background, and the pacing in the chorus felt a little off, but that‘s just me. Loved the uke solo. If this is not finished yet, I would love to see where you take this.

Some great storytelling here! I love the ukes and the doubling works really well. I agree with the Russian doll analogy too! Love stories rooted in real life. Such fun lyrics :) #tit4tat

So many stories within a story, it's like a Russian doll of a song. Clever lyrics and a nice oldy engaging feel.

It's great to get the back story, it does very much feel rooted in a real life overheard conversation. Obviously some great lines here. None better than 'Bob at no 12 likes his pies / phew you should see his tummy' (was that a genuine quote?!). Just a really nice warm song, the uke suits it perfectly.

A great song, John! Love the story behind it, and the lyrics are clever and fun. Happy to see you playing the uke!

Well this is right in my wheelhouse with my duo act 'The Old Married Couple.
I would always lean to sitting back melodically and riding the swing/bouce vocal delivery. think of it like iambic pantameter.
I feel like your lyrics should fit but the tempo makes it tough.
@tseaver Feb 2022
Fun write. "The older that we get, the better that we were" is the absolute truth.

The inspiration for the song is cool. I am impressed with the weird tonal quality. Like @timfatchen said like sepia-toned or like a wobbly home movie on super-8.
@erucaesounds Feb 2022
Very charming...... its all about the rhythm of the words isn't it, makes for an interesting listen..... and puts you right there listening to the ladies!
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Great story about how the song came about. Sets a good backdrop...Then that psychedelic Ukulele...Well done.
@timfatchen Feb 2022
Old-timey feel and so far back that it has a sepia feel. "The older that we get/The better that we were"--sums up so much of the way that people view, guess it's a verification thing. (Me, I was bloody _brilliant_ at carious things at various points but hey, the older that I get, the more cynical I become) (/rant) The country jogalong is just right for the conversation. Blue-rinse memories...

Uke an tell a wonderful musical story John!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
not even the strum one or the solo! i didn't put any effects on No1 strum uke. Ha ha
@mctown Feb 2022
Uking it up... way to go.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
This gives a great snapshot of small town life. I didn't even recognize the ukulele! Such production!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
@berni1954 ah yes didnt think of that but i was brought up reading Dylan Thomas so yeah i guess subconsciously that may have been an influence.
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Great "Under Milkwood" feel to this evocation of small town life. This was an aural soap episode.
