Well....They say, write what you know. It's the first day of a month of songwriting, or at least writing 14 songs in 28 days.
One thing that freed me today (I wrote this in about 3 hours, and even then, I accidentally deleted the lyrics as I was writing it on an Android Notes app after I had completed writing it), was realizing that this wasn't about delivering a polished performance or even necessarily a polished song. I can go back and rework it if need be. But it's about getting it out, and cranking out the songs this month. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. At least this month. And, speaking of unpolished, after I started to let loose toward the end, my piano started to slide off its stand. I continued to play while at the same time restoring the piano to its stable place on the stand.
Onward. Good luck everyone. I look forward to hearing other's works.
I just got up today
Time to get out there and play
Start with a blank page
And I don't want to give it away
I'm trying to find my slot
Getting there is filled with fraught
Finding inspiration up there
Creating a new thing I haven't got
(Chorus)
It's my 1st February song
And then there'll be another one
But I know that I can't go wrong
And it'll be fun
And where will I go from here?
Will I go for another beer?
I'm sure to stay the course
Keep generating the source, and find a new gear
I just got up today
Time to get out there and play
Start with a blank page
And I don't want to give it away
(Chorus)
It's my 1st February song
And then there'll be another one
But I know that I can't go wrong
And it'll be fun

Nice start Jeff! I'm glad you have recognized that perfect is the enemy of this exercise. I really liked the piano playing.

Great song, Jeff! I love the piano arrangement!

Jeff, this is a tremendous start. I love the playing and it's a great self-referential song in the FAWM tradition. It is about volume. Just keep cranking out stuff.

Sounds great! Congratulations!!!!

I liked the change in temp at the beginning of the chorus. Nice first song. I like your positive attitude. FAWM is about silencing the inner critic. The rockin' out on the keys ending was great fun!

An awesome song to start off FAWM 2022! Really good energy throughout and really encapsulates the uncertainty, the hope, the drive and excitement that comes with FAWM! And a brilliant recovery after losing the keys!
