Feb 2022 firstfruits instrumental
I was planning on doing a song with lyrics, but I was lying there and the muses obviously wanted me to do something else. I'm trying to use GarageBand more and see what happens there.

I'm just happy to get a first song out there. So excited for FAWM starting!

Nice tune with some cool unexpected harmonic turns. It sounds like winter, or even like Christmas. Not a very cheery Christmas but a warm and a bit melancholy Christmas. :)
@lenigmusx1 Feb 2022
Very nice and definitely feels like winter… maybe winter in France?
@bethdesombre Feb 2022
This sounds like February! I love how you seem to change modes througout, or at least challenge our melodic expectations.
@oswlek Feb 2022
Like everyone else, I imagine this as soundtrack. Maybe to footage of winter woodland critters as the Nature narrator gives his voice a rest. Or to a scene of children frolicking with Frosty when there is no dialog. :)
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
This does have a soundtrack feel as someone already mentioned. I picture cozy cottages covered in snow with the sweet smell of wood smoke wafting out the chimneys. People preparing for an Imbolc feast. Unhurried, contemplative, calmly cheerful. The different instruments dancing politely together. Lovely.
@mckillop Feb 2022
Nice, Ken; it does have a mid-winter, solstice (dare I say Christmassy) feel to it. Inviting the light back into the world.
@leslie333 Feb 2022
Very nice melody, like the bell sounds used part way through. Crumhorn sound is cool too.
@aeye Feb 2022
Not sure how much you used garabge band on this but I thought it turned out well. The sparse instrumentation was thoughtful and helps really nail that medieval sound that so many others have mentioned ( not sure if that was originally your intent but if it was it worked!)
@elesimo Feb 2022
Oh, wow! This is lovely, I think someone else mentioned that it has a medieval aspect to it, it's true! It's so visual! I can almost hear the crackling of a fireplace and the laughter of friends. Love it, Ken!
@celineellis Feb 2022
oh this oldy worldy sound is gorgeous Ken!
@allaboutgeorge Feb 2022
A wintry, mixolydian mode keeps a chilly little tune warm against the cold. I like it!
@davidtaro Feb 2022
It’s a lovely melody, definitely a medieval feel to it, and certainly you get that winter stillness in the music. I really like the impact those ice mallety things have, that’s a great choice for that second section.
@dragondreams Feb 2022
I'm definitely getting a sort of fusion-renaissance feel from this. I love the choice of instruments and the pace. It gives the melody loads of space to breathe.
Nice one. :-)
@standup Feb 2022
I like the title. An abandoned whiskey still in winter. Maybe not. The song feels almost medieval. I like the simplicity of the 2-3 parts, and the change in feel as different instruments take the melody.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Well that was different and thats your goal so bravo i say! By next year you'll be an old timer knocking everything out the park. Well done, it is a nice melody, does have that underlying folk feel!
@robynmackenzie Feb 2022
Really lovely melody. I like how the glockenspiel takes over the melody for awhile, adds some nice variety to the piece. The muses gotta do what the muses gotta do.
@mikehex Feb 2022
I had the opposite problem (just failed to do an instrumental). This piece flows really nicely, I like the way the two voices come together.
@andrea Feb 2022
This is so pretty. It feels like winter, but pleasant too! Being from NY, winter is not so pretty. I enjoyed this very much :)
@estebanlartigue Feb 2022
Wowwwww im still trying to get my desk studio working!!! Ill try to have something by the end of fawm too!!!
@cathymc Feb 2022
Ice crystals for sure. This is beautiful music and it made me really happy.
@vivalarayna Feb 2022
Nice start! I really enjoy the glockenspiel as it gives such a delicate layer like ice crystals. Can't wait to hear your Imbolc piece!
+1 to what @bradbrubaker said re: the title being open to interpretation.
@cindyrella Feb 2022
We're fishing out some great winter themed songs. Loved my listen!
@jtsteam Feb 2022
This is a nice tune. I'm imagining a soundtrack to someone trudging through a snowy landscape. Although I wondered if the "Still" was part of a distillery too :).
@phylo Feb 2022
It does evoke a wintery scene. Simple and beautiful.
@analogj Feb 2022
Nice use of contrasting colors, Ken! Has a Renaissance sort of feel to the piece.
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
I like how the title is open for interpretation: Winter stillness; winter...still?!?; or winter distillery. The part where it was basically just glock and bass harp notes was my favorite section.
