Feb 2022 mythology paganism celtic myth
I've been thinking a lot about an album of dark mythology, folklore, faeries (and faerie tales,) and pagan themes in general. I've written a few tunes that might qualify for such an album, and I figured that FAWM is the perfect time to write more of these "off-brand" songs (off-brand for me, that is.)
This needs work, I think, but it was fun.
Slipping through the mists across the carnage and the mud
Slowly on the field twixt the bodies and the blood,
Spectres bow in reverence in payment of the debt that she’s owed
In the still after the battle, as a last breath it escapes and she knows…
Where the Morrigan goes.
In the spark of every fire, on the edge of every blade,
Each word that’s spoke in anger, every confidence betrayed,
Overhead a crow is waiting, watching as the enmity grows
Every conflict escalating, culminating in a volley of blows
Where the Morrigan goes.
In shadow walks a lady in the darkness of the night
At the corners of our vision, at the edge of every fight,
We hold our breath in hopes that it’s not she who calls our name
And implore her for her favor as the chooser of the slain,
And time slows where the Morrigan goes.
Slipping through the mists across the carnage and the mud
Slowly on the field twixt the bodies and the blood,
Spectres bow in reverence in payment of the debt that she’s owed
In the still after the battle, as a last breath it escapes and she knows…
Where the Morrigan goes.

Oooooh....the Morrigan. She's quite a Force.
Excellent imagery-rich lyrics. So compelling. Wonderful vocals and music. Tremendous song overall. Really nice work. :)

This is excelllent! I hope you write more on this theme. Such good imagery you have created in my mind. And you have chosen one of the most intriguing members of Faerie.
@altum Feb 2022
This has got some real atmosphere! Very subdued and moody. Look forward to hear more!

Great song. The vocals are excellent and I love the guitar tone...kind of dark surf. :)

omg Morrigan is one of the best deities you can sing about, I feel. And you've done a magnificent job at it. Dark and gloomy and hungry and luring... love it!

Yas, I feel like paganism is exploding on FAWM. Love the dark goddesses <3 Your simple but building musical arrangement & growled vocals really fit her vibe.

This is my first listen of FAWM '22 and wow, so glad I stumbled onto this piece. You've really honored the lore here and the images are so vivid and dynamic. Love the musical treatment - brooding, but powerful. I envisioned this in dramatic cinematic slo-mo. Well done!

Yessssss! I love the imagery you have going on, it’s so vivid
@cphaurckker Feb 2022
loving the sort of shambling rhythm this has going; perfect for the setting and subject; definitely captures the feeling. Strong showing right out of the gate; though I'd expect nothing less, my friend!

Nice Mikey. Love the arrangement as well. Slow (for you) and works really well. Like the dynamic shift on the bridge as well.
