This was inspired by the Boat Name challenge. ( https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12058/ ) There was a list of a few dozen real and unusual boat names to serve as inspiration. First on the list was Summer Moon. It immediately inspired me, and none of the others did.
This is also a first-fruits song, dedicated to the goddess Selene.
Anyway, this came relatively easily, which was nice. If you want to set this to music, send me a message. Hope you enjoy!
Lo, the night-flight silver chariot,
racing over seas brought to bear.
Fifteen thousand razor cuts,
our lycanthropic madness.
What majesty she shows
with clandestine acts,
seeking union at once
with shadow and guilt.
"Forever," she says, "forever and ever,
ever anon this tempestuous weather,
that swells the seas and stabs the sky,
natural disease, a spiteful eye."
"Never," the response, "never not ever,
sacrificed for Summer Moon's pleasure!"
And so the endless cycle takes
its pound of flesh, its past mistakes.
Selene my dear,
your time is near.
(Solo.)
The pink fire,
a killing desire.
See you soon,
my Summer Moon.
The pink fire,
a killing desire.
See you soon,
nature's doom.
(Solo.)
"Now, again, not yet but when?"
Summer Moon, she knew it then.
"We must depart this shallow port,
that breeds a most contemptuous sport."
So on advice from fearful men
who fought with sword and dripping pen,
away today - blooming death -
my soul astray, my last breath.
The water's edge beckons deep,
a slither of endless dark decay,
and here atop a mighty wind
we sleep for excrucia.
A tome for the damned,
a ghost not welcome who needs the Sun,
raven, crow, offensive desires:
a tale of power and crushing doom.
The pink fire,
a killing desire.
See you soon,
my Summer Moon.
The pink fire,
a killing desire.
See you soon,
nature's doom.
Selene my dear,
your time is near.
Selene my dear,
the ghost I hear.

Loving the lunar imagery- something intensely romantic about the moon, it plays well into the scene you’re painting
@tukayandryan Feb 2022
Such beautiful imagery. Evocative and full of gorgeous metaphors.
@elesimo Feb 2022
So good! The lyrics paint such an amazing story. Fantastic song!
@apolez3 Feb 2022
Love the 'fought with sword and dripping pen' line !!!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Very evocative lyrics! Nice job. Remember to add the #magick tag to this so others can see!

So happy you participated in the Boat Name Challenge! Love bringing the Moon Goddess Selene into the lyric. Loved the imagery and descriptors. Lovely that someone's boat name could bring on such a creative outpouring!
@chroes Feb 2022
You really got a way with words, wow! Your lyrics have such a great evocative rhythm, it's chilling! Love what you did with the topic, too, would love to listen to this as a song!

Very cool pagan imagery. Love the fifteen thousand razor cuts, the dripping pen and the pink fire. Would make a great goth tune! By the way, the guitar on that song was an Epiphone SG Special put through a bunch of effects. Listening to "God in an Alcove" now, and I can see the resemblance (albeit unintentional).

Wow, such powerful word choices and metaphors. There's so much that I love in here but this one has to be my favourite:
Fifteen thousand razor cuts,
our lycanthropic madness.
What majesty she shows
with clandestine acts,
seeking union at once
with shadow and guilt.
If I'd had the time, I'd love to try to compose a track to this one, but this year I've decided to focus on my own project and refrain from collaborations for now :/ Hope someone snags this one!
@robynmackenzie Feb 2022
Absolutely beautiful lyrics. I love the archaic language you use, it really gives it a mythical feel.
@timfatchen Feb 2022
Intriguing! The archaic usage in the verses and the 1920's feel of the short line segments. Combination operatic/churchy and flapper/crooner?
@deathboy Feb 2022
Good words, mate. Good to read and hear in my head.
@vivalarayna Feb 2022
Love this! I heard it so clearly sung in my head, unabashedly dramatic. I can't even find a favorite line because each one was so well placed. I'm struggling to integrate that this came from a boat name challenge, but that just proves inspiration is truly everywhere!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
yup dramatic is a good word! has that ethereal other world feel often used by metal bands but these are to intricate for that! could see this in a sci fantasy film or the like. Nice one
@writeandwrong Feb 2022
Very dramatic, written in an Old World style. Those words! This was like watching a past-life happening in front of me. Superb!
@auditasum Feb 2022
Your drama of your words! This reads like if China Mieville wrote music. I love "lycanthropic madness" and I just learned the word "excrucia."
