Feb 2022 spokenword avantgarde wonky silly
I dunno?
Knives out for kitchen mouse
Chasing him around the house
The dirty little vermin louse
Will feel my wrath
Knives out for Dr Faust
Mephistopheles use your nouse
We married off, we made the vows
To kill each other nightly
The little death
The little death
La petite mort
Let's build a fort
And lick and suck
Til ropes are taught
Yes
I know your sort.
Knives out... for kitchen mouse
@enzo Feb 2022
What fun! Scares me a little, which is good! I love how playful the piano is...sounds like a mouse scurrying.
@sml Feb 2022
Love it. The stranger the better sometimes. Passionate song ha ha.
@elesimo Feb 2022
Hahaha, so good! I really enjoyed this song, how it starts weird and creepy and how it ends perverted. A lot of fun!
@guatecoop Feb 2022
Oh my, I'm laughing out loud at work....luckily they already know that I'm alright. This is so loaded (or seems to be) with messaging and observation. Fantastic. Wow, I just never know which direction you are going to pivot, but I am sure that it will be good regardless of direction. Well done!
@fuzzy Feb 2022
I have cats to deal with my kitchen mice.
Yeah, great surreal lyrics here for sure, complimented perfectly by the anxious piano.
Nice vocal delivery, full of barely suppressed energy.
Well done.
@ayehahmur Feb 2022
I've always enjoyed your singing and it's a right shame not to be able to enjoy it this year, but I think you've turned a constraint into a virtue here. The spoken word (and radio crackle treatment is inspired) really works to elevate the oddness of the lyrics and music. It's dark, it's visceral. It's great. If Jan Svankmeyer doesn't do a video for you there's no justice!
@tabitha Feb 2022
I love it! The crackling in the vocal audio really completes the tone. I think this would make a cracker replacement for the nursery rhyme Three Blind Mice.
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
Cracking. The spoken vocal works really well over the piano, which has a cinematic feel of the 20s - the 1920s, that is, not the 2020s. Not that I was there, but it's what's in my head. Love the lyrics.
@mctown Feb 2022
Creative.... like the piano/mouse running...david
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
love the inventiveness pete. tell me what have you done that piano on. is that real piano and playing? if so its genius , if not its still genius ;-) . Slightly scary but rather brilliantly with a sense of fun
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
Creepy and I totally enjoyed it.
@sorby69 Feb 2022
@petemurphy My mummy says I'm not allowed to play with you any more.
(Brilliant, Scarily Brilliant. Brilliantly scary)
@jonmeta Feb 2022
The story is “sax & violins” — “le petit mort”, I hadn’t heard that reference in years, but very clever way of tying the two main images together — But a second listen pulled me into the piano, the way it starts with simple rhythm and then goes into chromaticism in upper, then lower register, and ends bang on the beat. Really well done.
@sw1n3flu Feb 2022
Bonkers, but good bonkers. Quality rhymes and dig the off kilter delivery and keys! Listened twice
@carleybaer Feb 2022
Ha! I love this. It speaks to the primal, vaguely psychotic rage I've felt when mice have invited themselves into my kitchen. Is it weird that I find your delivery oddly soothing? Like a twisted bedtime story. Well done! :)
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
Love it, I just had a mouse in the house....you captured the darkness that takes over our minds on the hunt to rid ourselves of the rodent menace...this was great!!
@stephenwordsmith Feb 2022
Nice little bilingual bonus there with 'la petite mort' - ties together the themes nicely. I've never seen murder to sexy... or perhaps never seen sex so fatal... outside of praying mantises (mantes?)
As someone who bought a house near a river in a wooded area, the first verse is relatable - but the subsequent ones snap me out of that one pretty quick-smart.
@headfirstonly Feb 2022
Combination of weird piano stylings and lo-fi vocals really hits the spot. German pronunciation of "Mephistopheles" totally on point. Nicely done!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
Oddly endearing and creepy at the same time. I really enjoyed being slightly scared by this one!
@johnstaples Feb 2022
Hey Pete! This is very cool! I like how you spoke this and that piano accompaniment is really sweet! Awesome lyrics too and a great hook! I enjoyed this quite a lot!
@bamsekarhu Feb 2022
Cool lyrics! The immediate vibes went towards Tom Waits and Nick Cave ;)
