@dzdandcunfsd says: @candle gets a surprise collab for his first song of the year :)
He sent me a loop a few days ago that got stretched out and mangled and the rest of this built around it when I should of been sleeping before work last night.
Title from @fuzzy's suggestion that it would make a great title when I was rambling on about Gen X'ers just being quiet and angsty in the forums on one thread or another ;O)
@candle says: I had put together some random noises in Jeskola Buzz as an example of what its tracking capabilities could do for one of the forum discussions on this lovely website. And after listening to them, I knew right away that Cody would want to play around with them. So I sent him both a WAV file version & a native Buzz file (.bmx) for him to play with (he has played around in Buzz before). I really like what he came up with. Reminds me a lot of Hovercraft. I'm sure our odd musical tastes will cross paths again before the end of the month, so stay tuned!
See You In The Shadows…
quiet and angsty

I can't believe this is the first song of the year. It's excellent. Driving and odd and sinister. A true turkish delight for the ears.
@mrblitz000 Feb 2022
with the 'granularity' stuff, it has a kind of 'american horror story theme song vibe'. something really cool going on with that lead guitar. i sounds like a guitar, but with fx to make it sound less like a guitar?
can't explain, but it also has a 1970 acid rock vibe. seems like the drums give the sonic mayhem a solid platform.
@ballyhoot Feb 2022
Love that creepy opening. Well, it's pretty much creepy all the way through. Creepy and unsettling. But still rocking!
@ericlord Feb 2022
Oh my haha if anybody's looking for me I'll be cowering in fear that dark corner over there.
Read: success
@heliosonorous Feb 2022
This piece grooves and rocks so well, I dig all the sounds and how they swirl around each other, awesome combo of both your styles!
@angelinapowersuit Feb 2022
I highly recommend listening to this track while watching your kid's indoor soccer game. Talk about quiet and angsty. Though I can be pretty vocal, haha. But having a sound track play out my feelings kind of worked like ritalin for ADHD. I don't know what Buzz is but I love all the crunchy textures of this. And the bass keeps it all grounded. Great collab!
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
The opening bassline caught my attention and then it all went crazy -scary crazy! Lol! But awesomely creative!
@rayboneor Feb 2022
This is pretty effing awesome right out of the gate. I just love the way it stomps along rather ponderously while the guitar howls and whines and takes no prisoners. The crashing drums are great too. Y'all definitely had me in your spell here
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
I couldn't decide which of you two to listen to tonight so thanks for solving that problem! Had to listen twice, first through speakers and then with headphones to get the full effect. That bottom end plods along menacingly like a monster coming to get ya. I swear I hear a motorcycle engine in there... angsty, yes. Quiet, hell no.
@mardeycranbleson Feb 2022
What I love about your stuff is how long it takes me to realize what instrument made the sound I’m hearing. Love the menacing soundscape you’ve created here and I see what you mean about blown speakers - good thing im listening on earbuds!
@bachelorb Feb 2022
This is cool!!! Sounds a bit like Hendrix (....sorry Jimi.... not really.... I bow before thee.....)
I think I just took an LSD trip without swallowing anything.
@elesimo Feb 2022
Love all those sounds, specially the horn. The song is so annoying, but in a good way!
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
That beginning bass line makes me feel like this is an industrial song, but then it turns into a psychedelic wonder wall. The guitars sound really cool. This song is a mood! Great work.
@splittybooms Feb 2022
This song is how I feel every day.
Like the lead guitar, I sometimes have moments of clarity where I feel like I can not only make sense of things, but also apply experience and knowledge to life itself so I can actually move forward and do things that make SOME FRIGGIN SENSE...
and then just like the guitar, that all goes out the window at the drop of a hat, and I slip into not knowing what the point of things are, or more importantly, what shirt I'm even wearing right now.
The sliding up and down the pitch done at like 4:00 somehow (and I think the fact that something played on a musical instrument can capture this is simply amazing) reflects perfectly the actual facial expression I carry most days which is a totally neutral look but with sadness and hopeless ness somehow mixed in; and my head is usually tilted in a downward angle- but sometimes I lift it as to not look completely pathetic (ala the sliding up and down the fret or whatever you're doing there)
I don't know if I'm happy that a song has captured my exact state of mind or not.
All I know is that you two have once again made something so out-there but yet so....right....especially to me on a personal level.
Are you two inside my head?
If so, can you massage out the headache that I have?
Hopefully this comes across as "I love this track".
@readwrite Feb 2022
Puts angsty right through the wall, I'd say -- most satisfyingly probe the emotional wound and pull out all the gore... really enjoyed all the sequence of ideas and the just mangled delight of strange and strangled and over the tops sound. Got here from @candle's track, will be looking forward to more.
@elainedimasi Feb 2022
This is crazy satisfying and Gen X would be rightly proud to own it (if Gen X were allowed to have nice things haha)
Dig the guitars and bass, dig the noise.
Can't compete with everybody else's comments!
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
hell ya boys! going back to do it again!!!. had me head noddin. if i was a super-villain, i'd want this as my theme played by my henchmen wherever i went.
@djtjb Feb 2022
Whew! Had to give it a second listen, there is so much going on. But in a completely fantastic way. I have to second @ineloquentsd that I totally see this accompanying an art-film. Or maybe over the Walt Disney classic "Charlie, the Lonesome Cougar (the exciting adventures of a Teen-Age mountain lion!)"
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Amon Düul Lives!
This has a real 70s Kraut Rock feel to it.
I could really imagine a deep German vocal on this like on Amon Düul's "Deutsch Nepal" - a must hear if you don't know it.
@fuzzy Feb 2022
Oh my, this is fabulous.
Such massive bottom end there.
I'm loving the guitar skittering around on top of the doom noises.
My headphones are vibrating.
Or maybe that's my brain.
The subtle whispering really adds to this.
Yeah, that guitar really kicks ass.
I believe you guys have a Top 40 hit on your hands here.
@caterwauler Feb 2022
Whoa, what a treat! You guys made my day, with this track!
Wild, excessive, uncompromising... I find the relentless escalation in quirkiness delightful. The whole thing remains grounded into a cohesive structure thanks to the stubborn bass, and the crazy drums create wonderful dynamics. Awesome.
@theodamus Feb 2022
Ooooh yes this put spiders in my brain (in a good way!). Nailed the spookier side of gen x vibes, I can see this being played by a vampire band at the Bronze on Buffy. What a delightful little creepy crawly journey!
@jsmalls Feb 2022
Scaled and Icy? Broke.
Quiet and Angsty? Woke.
Love the wacky guitar (distorted vocal?) and the offkilter drums & clang noises for the spook factor. Bass line is nice too, grounds everything.
I listened to this on speakers but the stereo image is so powerful that it felt like I was listening on headphones.
Love how the rhythms dynamically flow from busy at some parts to more relaxed at other parts, it prevents the noise from sounding like, well, just mindless noise. Mindful noise.
@yewnorker Feb 2022
Damn good! Nice Zappa / Beefheart vibe with a little Jimi -Hear my train a coming thrown for good measure. Wow.
@intoyourlight Feb 2022
Ok Im really liking this too much :D but then again I‘m always in for the weird and creepy stuff. This is really greaaaat!!!
@kanttila Feb 2022
Oh man, this is really cool! The songs are perfectly insane, especially the um...thing...making the melody. Satisfying to listen to, great track!
@mctown Feb 2022
Enjoyed hearing it.
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
Perfect dzd-ness! Suitably disturbing at nearly ten o clock at night, and fitting perfectly with how I'm feeling having failed to turn my song idea into a reality this evening! Especially love the feel around 3:25 and how it goes spacy...
@ttg105 Feb 2022
This is marvelously strange and woozy as heck. Getting high just listening to it! Reminds me a bit of the Butthole Surfers (always a good thing!) collaborating with an alien Hendrix. Guitar torture, doom-laden drums ... sheer noisy fun!
@silvermachine Feb 2022
Oh yeah, some sort of slide guitar playing insect caught in the middle of a jungle war. What a diabolically fabulous noise.
Damn I think he's being airlifted out of there now. Helicopters, ambulances and a killer distorted rhythm track.
@yam655 Feb 2022
"I'm going to need headphones for this." [puts headphones on]
"I need to turn it up." [turns up the volume]
"I need to turn it up." [turns up the volume]
"I NEED TO TURN IT UP." [turns up the volume]
I wish I had a stereo that would allow me to feel this music with my whole body, and a house that would allow me to do so without bothering neighbors. I will have to see what it sounds like in my car. It may be weak sauce, but it is the best I can do right now.
This is yummy in my ears. Thank you!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
Wow!
This is fabulous. That driving bass and the insistent rhythm really hooked me in. But the noises! Tortured electrons make ace instruments.
Yeah. I love this one.
@ineloquentsd Feb 2022
Oh, this is an entire vibe. This for sure feels like it should be playing over an extended montage of self-destruction in an art film. What a great start for FAWM 2022!
@nadine Feb 2022
This song makes me angsty. Sounds like mice in an old 90s grunge club that has been shut down due to quarantine. Or angsty teenagers waiting for it to open again and scratching their nails on the entry door in a B horror movie. Your soundscapes are just insane. But well that's what I expected, when I saw your names.
