Feb 2022 first-fruits choral a-capella past-life-dreams
This is my conception of the beginning of the Universe experiencing itself. Part of my Past Life Dreams series.
Too much reverb? Not enough?
In the beginning there was darkness
In the beginning there was light
In the beginning there was nothing
Anything and everything might
Happen!
(Happen!!)
In the beginning there was chaos
In the beginning there was calm
In the beginning, no suffering
In the beginning, just One
But light makes a shadow
And love leads to loss
Being born means dying
Having has a cost
Let us make a shadow
Let us suffer loss
Let us learn to love
And let us pay the cost
(Happen!!) Let us make a shadow
(Happen!!) Let us suffer loss
(Happen!!) Let us learn to love
(Happen!!) And let us pay the cost
Happen!
Happen!
Happen!
Happen!

Well, this is Majestic! And Epic! Wow, such great a capella and layering of vocals! And some genuine brilliance in lines like this one "Having has a cost". Ain't that the truth! Nice work!
@jamkar Feb 2022
One of the best acapella works that I can remember. Beautiful way to express your viewpoint!
@janeg Feb 2022
Memorable! The kind of song that would make me take notice if it came on the radio.
@ofishell Feb 2022
FANTASTIC! OMG! Not too much reverb at all! "Being born means dying / Having has a cost." Well said, well sung, everything. As the kids say these days, I live...
@ekin Feb 2022
I loved the concept, the vocals and the lyrics! I listened to it like 5 times and really enjoyed it. The chaos towards the end mimics the real life. Great work!
@caterwauler Feb 2022
As I was often told, there is *never* too much reverb. =)
Your glorious vocal work fits your theme perfectly. I love that the word, "happen" kind of punctuates the cadence, while enhancing the imagery you're painting. Very nice.
@helenseviltwin Feb 2022
This is cool as! It has a slightly chaotic feel to it, which kind of feels right for the entropy of a universe forming. Nice one.
@robynmackenzie Feb 2022
This kind of reminds me of the beginning of Children of Eden, but with a lighter feel. I love how you play with the harmonies. Really cool!
@timfatchen Feb 2022
okay! best I've heard from you for a long time! And the 1-minute song leaves the listener desperately wanting more!
have you met @thedustcollector? If not you should!
@greengrassgirl Feb 2022
Fabulous sound here! I'm very impressed! Please post more of your songs!
@valeriecox Feb 2022
All those vocal layers. Nice! I don’t know, I might add more reverb to mimic the primordial soup of creation. :P
@aeye Feb 2022
No such thing as too much reverb :D ( at least in my world) I thikn in this case it works really well as it gives you the feel of being in the room with your "choir" ( clever idea really to multi track record it this way) The song itself felt very big and epic like it's the start of a musical. Great stuff. Thanks for checking out the great ship illumina :)
@nancyrost Feb 2022
So cool! I love the concept - excellent way to start the season, with an "in the beginning" song, and it *sounds* like a world being created. The harmonies are wonderful, and I'm particularly enamored of the jaunty time signature.
@wurzelfrau Feb 2022
These harmonies, really nice!
I smiled during the whole song, its so fun to listen to!
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
That is WRITE on..."let us make a shadow, suffer loss, learn to love, pay the cost"...that is excellent, the balance. The acapella and harmonies make it feel very narrative, like a scene in a musical. I like reverb, so I'm all in.
@frey Feb 2022
My, what range! The harmonies are so compelling
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
Excellent #firstfruits contribution! I don't know enough about music theory to break it down but to me it contains a reverence, but with some fear and trembling.
@alyxanderjames Feb 2022
Ooooo, I like this. Your ability to layer so many harmonies never fails to impress!
@daveyboy103 Feb 2022
Must be my browser, works after explicit download,
I love the atonal anarchy of the vocals. Very dramatic stuff.
@daveyboy103 Feb 2022
Doesn't play for me
