The Butterfly Dance
I watched a show on NOVA about the different types of butterflies...very cool documentary.
So this song is inspired by the random and wonderful flight of a monarch butterfly dancing from flower to flower.
So chill with your coffee, tea or whatever your favorite drink is, for a few minutes before you start your day.
Music by Garry Kirby (@Gm7)
Recorded with a Martin D16 mic’ed with a single SM57 aimed at the 12th fret. Standard tuning.

This is so dreamy. I could imagine the butterflies flitting from flower to flower.

Do you like and/or know Opeth? This reminds me a lot of their acoustic stuff, which I like and admire. The various chords you are using here and the way they flow, like butterflies. The way you incorporate disharmonics, very beautiful!
@wylddandelyon Mar 2022
This is really pretty. I love those Martin guitars, and you play it very well here.

Butterflies fascinate me! I think you have captured their beauty and seemingly effortless motion with this beautiful instrumental. Fantastic guitar playing, lush chords, nice contrast throughout. This was really cool to listen to - it kept surprising me in wonderful ways. Very nice piece! #tit4tat

Real nice picking. It walks the line between the feeling of a loose improv and a tightly composed piece. The different moods/sections all fit together well though like pieces of a puzzle.
@jayjay Mar 2022
Masterful guitar work. Definitely can see the monarch through the music. #tit4tat

It is told that butterfly, when they first come out of their cocoon, their wings are crinkled. So they can't fly right away and they have to beguin dancing in the sun moving their wing slowly at first. This is how the wrinkles remove and how the butterfly gets to dicover its wings for the first time. And little by little it gets ready to fly.
This track is so fragile and beautifull it made me think of the dance of the new butterfly wings. It was your first release for this FAWM and what a nice way to beguin. I gotta go check my alarm clock, see if there could be a way to change the alarm for your tune instead.

This really is beautiful. Gorgeous guitar playing. So gutted I didn't find you before today but will make up for it by listening and commenting this month! Ooh, lush ending!
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Exquisite, also applies to large flakes of snow floating around and covering the ground. But I like butterflies more. Such a wonderful offering. #tit4tat

Beautiful. Wish it was summer and I could sit in my kitchen and gaze at my butterfly garden and listen to music like this. It was very relaxing.
@jaz Feb 2022
I just love this.
@sunnymae Feb 2022
SM57on the 12th eh?...I'm going to do that very same thing next time!!!
@sunnymae Feb 2022
Oh...this is a dream. A beautiful fluttering flowering butterfly dream.
Your tone is gorgeous and you were so tuned in to the energy of these magnificent creatures. I'm sure if you play this outdoors this summer while they come to be, they will sit on your guitar, your hands and flutter all around you as a kindred spirit. Thank you for creating this beautiful moment.
@karan Feb 2022
Oh my goodness, this is SO lovely! I once visited a butterfly farm, and your enchanting music brought back all the wonderful memories, the colours, the beauty ...
@johnpeekstok Feb 2022
Perfect timing! I'm sitting here with my coffee thoroughly enjoying this tasty guitar tune. Beautifully played.
@kristinchambers Feb 2022
so lovely......
@dragondreams Feb 2022
This is beautiful. And I'm chilling with a coffee right now as I let this wash over me. :-)
@gflatminor Feb 2022
So evocative of the butterflies, sometimes gliding, sometime flitting about. So nice!
@splittybooms Feb 2022
Wow, I was JUST about to write "I'm sitting here, sipping my coffee as the sun brightens through my blinds" when I read your liner notes haha
I only know about the Monarch butterfly because of Animal Crossing.
The light and cheerful strums and plucks of your guitarin' really capture the sight of a beautiful butterfly fluttering about. The hiss of the recording adds so much, I can't explain it. Its almost like its a breeze on a pleasant morning; perfect backdrop for the guitar.
This was so calming but also made me feel more cheerful.
Excellent piece.

The play random song button brought me to a friend!!! NICE! Your playing is beautiful man. Some really cool sections and dreamy chord tones the lil chromatics add perfect tension
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Some beautiful sounds you are getting out of that guitar. Pure pleasure to listen to. I can envision myself in an open field watch the monarch butterflies dancing along...
@wacha Feb 2022
Wow, this is really beautiful! I sat with my eyes closed and just enjoyed your playing. That is some really beautiful guitar work!
@elesimo Feb 2022
I listened to this while sipping coffee, and it was lovely. I loved all the movement and the different little riffs!
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Sheer unadulterated loveliness. I feel very chilled now, thank you. Also jealous of that guitar ;)
@wobbiewobbit Feb 2022
soo nice and relaxing to listen to. the upclose gentle playing is so intimate and delicate. really imagined a summer garden watching the butterfly. lovely
@majordanby Feb 2022
Beautiful. Loosely reminds me or conveys the spirit of Ascenseur Pour L'echafaud, Miles Davis in terms of reacting to the images unfolding and adding musical context.
@kristi Feb 2022
Well, it's nighttime so it's a great way to wind down too! I like the movement in this...easy to imagine those butterflies. It's a lovely mix of delicate motion. Nice job.
@erucaesounds Feb 2022
Really nice playing, beautiful song..... well done!!!! And I am a Martin Junkie, so can't go wrong with me!
@daveyboy103 Feb 2022
Beautiful guitar work
@kanttila Feb 2022
Nice guitar piece! Sounds great and goes in interesting places.
@judypie Feb 2022
Love me some butterfly action! Gotta be honest, I don’t hear the incubus influence in this one :p Well actually, maybe a lil Aqueous transmission cos it’s soooo wonderfully chill :D Ooh a mysterious chord to end! Sweet opened dude!
@gwyn1234 Feb 2022
"A butterfly flutters by and settles on a daisy" was a line I've often remembered from childhood with affection and this beautiful piece of excellent playing brings it back to mind once more.
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
Strangely, when I play Martins they sound tinny and toyish. You, however, make yours SING! Playful and pleasant track.
@seanbrennan Feb 2022
This is one where the Liner Note deeply enhanced my enjoyment of it. The two "halves" of the gesture paint a very vivid picture (for me, at least) of a butterfly in flight, and then alighting on some branch or flower. The steady eighth notes are like it flapping its wings gently to come to a rest. Very nice!
@rgarv100 Feb 2022
sweet picking!
@aesthetic72 Feb 2022
Wonderful piece, Garry. I can picture all sorts of butterfly flight here. You’re off to a great start!
@cicpisces Feb 2022
Nice gentle guitar playing. Very nicely played. Conjures up a load of images and like title of butterfly dance. Just what I need at the end of a hard day.
@majordanby Feb 2022
Really expressive and playful. I never do instrumental tracks as its a real skill to keep the track moving without vocals. This is the perfect ode to a butterfly. I’m really chilled out after listening to that! :-)
@greengrassgirl Feb 2022
Garry, This sounds great! What a nice way to start the day!
@b4rkst4les Feb 2022
I could see the Butterflies Dancing. Nicely constructed.
@johnstaples Feb 2022
Wow Garry, this is so very beautiful! You are really making that Martin sing! I just love, Love, LOVE this!
@djtjb Feb 2022
I'm enjoying this with my coffee now, and it definitely sets the mood for a good morning! Even though there is some snow on the ground here I can see the butterflies flying around. Great piece
@logrinn Feb 2022
Beautiful. I wish I could play like that.
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
I second @coolparadiso ! This song in earbuds at the Monarch Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. There's a lovely transportive quality to this song!
@cts Feb 2022
Well this put me in a good mental space as I get ready to meet with my new manager. The arrangement compliments the bit of Foley you have working as the backdrop. One thing I'm hoping to accomplish is to interpret a scene, picture, moment, etc. and bring it to life musically as you have here.
@nadine Feb 2022
That's smooth and jazzy, Garry! Softguitar is a good tag. Quite stereophonic sound for one mic. DAW-doubled?
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Garry, this is lovely. A great start to FAWM. It's just so calming on a winter morning (and we have no butterflies here!)
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
your patience was rewarded and the site appeared. Very clean and nice piece. i could see this against that documentary! i'm feeling very laid back!
