Feb 2022 folk-rock
Met a gal a couple weeks ago who was heading to an ayahuasca retreat in Costa Rica to find her purpose. She'd just brought rescue puppies to the Mainland USA from the Virgin Islands and was in the process of being refused a hotel room because she didn't have a plastic copy of her credit card, only her card numbers. I covered her damage-waiver deposit with my card, and we shared one night of dinner and reflecting on our vastly different worlds before she left with the sun for her Costa Rican psychedelic adventure. She inspired me to write song lyrics about her. I'm super open to collabs who want to bring this song to life :-)
(Verse 1)
Who were you, at five foot two,
with eyes so blue, from far away...
Just sitting there, under blonde hair, with a troubled air, of new dismay...
That hotel clerk, wouldn't work,
the simple perk, of your credit card...
Why couldn't he, just look and see, your photo copy, would that've been so hard...
(Chorus)
Oh girl with with a puppy-saving heart
You shouldn't have been treated so
But glad I was, that you were stuck there
So I could say yes, when he said no
(Verse 2)
Just one night, under dim lights, we dined right, with oysters raw...
Paella for two, the time just flew,
happy I'd met you, the troubled girl I saw...
But schedules were tight, and we both had flights, and that one night, was all the time we had...
Goodnight wishes, travel promises, stopping short of kisses, but I'm still glad...
Because a piece of you, stuck with me like glue, and I already I knew, That you're special somehow...
Though you're far away, that's OK, I just want to say, that I'm happy now...
(Bridge)
For I met a girl, from far away who makes the world, seem all OK
She's just a girl, in a great big world, but our paths have crossed, and may again someday
(Chorus)
Oh girl with with a puppy-saving heart
You shouldn't have been treated so
But glad I was, that you were stuck there
So I could say yes, when he said no
(Outro)
Oh girl with a puppy-saving heart
With eyes so blue under blonde hair
You've made me smile and that's a start
From far away please know I care
And find your way, your purpose, your light, whatever you need to see things right.
You're a girl, in a great big world, and you were quite a sight in one night's moonlight.

What great storytelling. Such a great idea. Love that real life inspires such creativity. Chorus is great. Love the title too! Great collab guys.

Wow that’s a lot of lyrics.. I’m not a story song writer generally so I appreciate anyone who can do this. This is really cool. I feel a lot of Dylan snd Petty vibes. Nice song!

wow, so glad I found your songs! nice concept, really great vibe on this song. I love the melody of the chorus especially. It had a Jesse's girl kind of feel that I immediately connected to. I like the way you sang "girl" dragging it a little bit out in some places - so good

Great story, great chorus. I adore these global nomad people. Met a few when I was just barely old enough a "lady" that the 22yo's seemed like girls to me. Also brings back memories of kindly folks who helped me in foreign countries when I got lost or stuck like that :-) So glad this track got its words and music here on FAWM!

This can go right to the next ac/DC album
@nadine Feb 2022
Thanks for sharing this interesting story! Random encounters can be quite inspirational and change the way you think. I loved to read the lyrics and the music is great rocking. This is catchy and maybe she hears it someday soon. You'll never know!

Great collab fellas. Brings back memories of similar fleeting moments I've had.

Nicedemo brings it to life, got a goodfeel to the track. Liking the doubled. Up vocals

Boy meets girl for one night and then leaves for heaven knows where is pretty much the essence of rock n roll lyrics. It's the sort of exciting experience that enlivens a dull life when heard remotely in song form.
Those guitars sound really nice and coupled with a great melody to boot. Enjoyed that a lot.

Loving the folk-rock vibe & the great story. Great collab guys!
See You In The Shadows…

Ohh that's quick! Last time i visited this song it was just a sheet of paper with an intriguing story. I even googled the retreats in Costa Rica, cause I don't remember seeing them when I was there.
Anyhow; what a great collab this is! I was very curious who would pick this up and mold it into a song. Big, big compliments to @dreamscuba. Love the vocals. Do not change anything.
Great work you two.

Great story! and it makes for an even better song! That's a really great and gritty guitar tone, and with the songs subject matter it feels even more like an early dose of 50s rock n roll. Really enjoyed this.

The puppy saving song that Ric Ocasek wished he'd written
@dasbinky Feb 2022
Great melody, and awesome imagery! Real cool tune, y'all!
@dukongp100 Feb 2022
You brought her happiness and she did you, too. I love the story behind this, it is a good take on your experiences
@dreamscuba Feb 2022
@marklberry I have emailed you a link for the song demo... if we find a real singer, we could get them to overdub my vocals...
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
So sweet! A girl with a puppy-saving heart. The story does make for a nice lyric and even more so knowing it is based on truth. I call that journaling-with-a-tune. Hope it gets set to music.
