I tried to write this in a way that people could read into it and interpret it any way they want.
I just didn't want to let my dog outside on a frigid February morning when I was sitting down to start writing my first FAWM 2022 song (though I had no idea what to write about just yet). Well, Maxwell Barkswell the Scottish Terrier (aka Max) got his way... and I still got a song. :)
Yeah, you’re waiting -
Waiting for me to do your bidding
But I’m not budging, I’m not kidding
I’ve got better things to do
Sure, you’re patient -
Patient and silently demanding
Staring at me and just standing
But you know I’m on to you
And if I give in to your game
I know I’ll just have me to blame…
Oh what the hell - I’m letting you go
Like a husky in the freshly fallen snow
You won’t get far, I promise you
You know there’s nothing you can do
But for now… I’m letting you go.
Yeah, you’re calling -
Calling because more snow is falling
And yeah, I’m coming, but now I’m stalling
I’ve got better things to do
Sure, you’re urgent -
Urgent and loud and annoying
It’s only my peace you’re destroying
And you know I’m on to you
But if I close my ears instead
You’ll still be screaming in my head…
Oh what the hell - I’m letting you in
Like an enemy who used to be a friend
And I know how this story ends
It just repeats again and again
But for now… I’m letting you in.
And it’s only just because you know I love you…
And it’s only just because I really care…
And it’s only just because I can’t help myself
When I hear you crying out there…
And I hear you crying out there…
Oh what the hell - I’m letting you in
And you know I’ll do it time and time again
Cause that’s the way our story goes
Through summer rains and winter snows
You know, you know, you know… I’m letting you in.
You know, you know, you know… I’m letting you in.

Had I not read the liner notes I would definitely have interpreted it differently so you hit the goal there! My dogs often stand by the door then either want to come inside immediately or were just sitting and looking outside making us open the door for nothing - I like what you have done turning it into a song.

This has an impact on the to and fro of the narrative - from letting go to coming for . It has a nice swingy feel to it

I have a three-month old puppy, so I can relate to the scenario. I really like the complexity of feeling here--irritated and frustrated but still hanging in there. "I'm letting you in" perfectly captures that.
