Privacy Statement

Last Updated: Sat Jan 19, 2013

This Privacy Policy applies to the website you are currently viewing (FAWM.ORG; hereinafter “the Site”). By visiting or using the Site, you consent to the data collection and use practices described in this policy. This Policy is intended to be read with, and not to limit, our Terms of Use.

You can access limited features of the Site without disclosing personal information. In order to access the entire Site, you must register for an account.

1. What information FAWM collects

We collect some personal information from registered users of this site.

FAWM does not knowingly collect or maintain personally identifiable information on the Site from persons under 15 years of age, and no part of our website is directed to persons under 15. If you are under 15 years of age, do not use or access the Site at any time or in any manner. If we learn that personally identifiable information of persons under 15 years of age has been collected on the Site without verified parental consent, then we will take the appropriate steps to delete this information.

To participate in FAWM, you must provide a username, working email address, birthdate, gender, country, and password upon registration. (However, only your display name and geographical region are made available by default to website users). You must also provide a title for each song completed for official FAWM recognition. You may, at your option, choose also to provide other data, including your own website, musical influences, song lyrics/notes, etc., to be made available to the public on your profile. You also have the option to make your email address available to LOGGED-IN participants only.

We keep track of users who have donated to FAWM and users who have officially completed the FAWM challenge.

FAWM sends weekly emails to registered users during the month of February and periodically (about 3-4 times) throughout the rest of the year. These emails announce the week’s songwriting challenge, provide encouragement, updates, and other information relevant to the FAWM project. You have the option (in your profile) of not receiving these emails.

To properly use the FAWM Site and Services, you must have your browser set to accept “cookies,” which we use to track some of your information. “Cookies” are small text files placed on the hard drive of your computer in order to store personal data relevant to your FAWM account. You have the option to set your web browser to reject cookies and if you do so some features of the Site will not work. You should check the documentation of your browser to learn how to disable “cookies.”

We employ security systems that we believe prevent most people from accessing your personal information through the Site. People who try and bypass security systems, or “hackers,” are often very skilled at breaking through security systems, though, and therefore we can make no guarantee that your information will be 100% safe.

For your own information and protection on the Site and on the Internet in general, keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information, that information can be collected and used by others. Similarly, if you post personal information in public places, you may receive unsolicited e-mail messages. Please think before you post any information online.

2. Disclosure of personal information

It is our policy NOT to disclose personal information to third parties. However, we reserve the right to disclose your personal information, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process or government request served on us; (b) protect and defend our rights or property; or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of a User of the Site, or the public.

You may contact us to request information about the data we collect about you, by sending an email to: . We may require proof of your identity before providing any such information. We reserve the right to refuse to provide you with a copy of your personal data, but we will give reasons for any such refusal. 3. Other remarks

By using this service, you also agree to let the organizers of FAWM analyze the data that we collect about your activity on the site, and report on any findings of intellectual merit in research publications (see a few examples here). To the extent possible, such data analysis is done anonymously. Under no circumstances will personally identifiable information be published without your prior consent.

By visiting the Site, you accept that your visit and any dispute over privacy is subject to this Policy and our Terms of Use, including limitations on damages and application of the law of the state of Wisconsin, USA. If you have any concern about privacy issues, please contact us as directed in this Policy.
