Jazz tune looking for collaborators

@ohljazz Feb 2022
My latest FAWM song is a 20-bar smooth-ish jazz form that I'd love to turn into a complete track. Looking for collaborators and ideas - I think it could use some lyrics, perhaps a C section that goes somewhere else musically.

Hey @ohljazz I'm very late to the FAWM gig. Just sat down to coffee, south of Boston, had a listen and some ideas were coming.
I started humming, "lyricing" to the topline of tune. Am I correct that that would be the melody line? or would you want something different than that?
I'm not a "jazzer", mostly folk/americana, singersongwriter, But my wife's cousin is a jazz drummer and his wife a jazz singer/sax in the windy city! Maybe I have a tiny bit deep down by association! Would love to take a swing at lyrics it if you're still open. I can write and send a sheet or could also do an on key vox track for a better feel.
LMK!

Great chord sequence. would love to put fretless bass part to it if you are interested and could post the chords.

I would be down for an improvised smooth lead synth line. For a C section I think you could cut the chord changes down to a simpler sequence and lay it back behind the beat a little. Some of the present chord changes seem a little ahead of the beat. If you send me chords I could try to work something that is consonant with what you have already

That piano sounds way groovy. I'm hearing that this needs a Jimmy Haslip style bass line. I think your chord changes are good. They will be a challenge for a soloist but they are very jazzy. Your "drummer" needs to be lighter with a more floating feeling on the hihat. Less of that chuck-chuck sound. You will have the next jazz hit with this one!

Yup. Agreed, some bass would be welcome.

Thanks everyone! Here's the chord chart for people to play with.

I agree that this needs a better bass line and much better drum part than my simple MIDI track. That melody (and the title) are just suggestions for now. @n1742 - would love to hear your bass ideas. @scottlake please think about a C section- maybe a simpler stop time thing that's open for drum and/or bass solos? And @kcc lyric ideas are welcome. Maybe an even simpler melody to lay on top of that active harmony underneath? -

Left a note on your soundboard with a suggestion for a C section

@ohljazz Feb 2022
Thanks for the suggestion @scottlake ! That got me thinking about going even simpler, to add a stop time vamp section with just bars 1 and 4 of the form:
||: Abmaj7 G7 | [rest] | Abmaj7 G7 | Cm :||
My thought is to make that section C very different from the rest of the tune, here by changing the feel dramatically even while keeping the same harmony -

Ok ohl, what is “stop time”?

Thanks for the chord chart Oren. I’ll have a look tomorrow.

I’ve worked out a bass part. Can I download your mp3 from SoundCloud to put the bass part to? Or can you send me it on Dropbox?
-
@n1742 Feb 2022
I’ve got your part in my DAW so will try to send bass part later today.

@n1742 Feb 2022

Also added a stop time vamp that would be a good place for drum or bass solos https://www.dropbox.com/s/ix730tewtekf7xz/FAWM%20Friday%20feelings%20stop%20time.wav?dl=0

Thanks for all of the great ideas and contributions. After reading the lyrics by @tiller2, I generated a new (slower) version with the title he suggested "I'll Be Here For You." I think this one has potential to turn into a proper recording for my Groove Park project (https://www.instagram.com/grooveparkmusic/)

Can I put the version with my bass on my Fawm songs as long as I explain it’s your song?
