I remember having this issue before - is it a browser thing? Im using google chrome on a mac.

  • @wrenarcher  Feb 2022

Hm. I'm using Chrome on a windows... in incognito mode and I was able to listen to a self hosted song. Maybe try Safari on your Mac?

  • @frenchcricket  Feb 2022

weirdly I'm having the opposite problem: Soundcloud songs just don't want to play on Safari but are fine on Chrome.

  • @loveonamixtape  Feb 2022

I'm unable to see my files after uploading. Tried with and without creating a subfolder. This my first time using FAWM hosting so unsure what might just be user error.

  • @burrsettles  Feb 2022

@celineellis we're trying to figure out the problem here... we're narrowing it down, but i can confirm that i can't play these songs using chrome or safari on mac either...

however, firefox on mac does work.

  • @mariekevinkmusic  Feb 2022

I can't play FAWM hosted songs on my Android phone, through Firefox or Chrome.

  • @celineellis  Feb 2022

@burrsettles thanks Burr - I’m swapping between phone and Mac so I’m not missing anything (I don’t think)

I hope everyone else finds a workaround too!

  • @dock  Feb 2022

I too, cannot hear some songs. When I hit the play button they just show 00:00 for song length. Others are hearing and commenting on them. I'm on a Mac using Google Chrome.
Are they hosted on the FAWM site?
By the way I tried and could not log on to the hosting site either. It didn't recognize my user name or password, or the password you sent in the email acknowledging my donation.

  • @slusk Feb 2022

@frenchcricket & others: try disabling any adblockers you have installed in your browsers. Usually it’s possible only to disable them on fawm.org.

  • @dock  Feb 2022

Tried to connect to a FAWM hosted song via "download mp3" option which worked for some songs. I got this:
    Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from files.fawmers.org (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more
    NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID
This server could not prove that it is files.fawmers.org; its security certificate is not valid at this time. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.

    Proceed to files.fawmers.org (unsafe)

  • @owl  Feb 2022

Same issue on iPhone/safari, same very warning as @dock was getting.

  • @bachelorb  Feb 2022

Same problem.... it works with SoundCloud, just not FAWM hosted files. When I try to download, I also get the security message. I did notice my IPhone with a newer IOS version works just fine.

  • @shortdan  Feb 2022

I've also experienced the same issue as @dock & @owl.

  • @frenchcricket  Feb 2022

@slusk this was it, and the worst thing is I remember doing the exact same thing last year.

  • @burrsettles  Feb 2022

    ***** IMPORTANT NOTICE *****

We are aware of these issues and it's primarily a problem for Apple products using Chrome or Safari. The website is actually safe, but there's some bug in the way the HTTPS/SSL certificates are being generated on the files.fawmers.org server and/or received by the Apple devices.

If you're on a Mac, try Firefox for now, I can confirm that everything works. Still trying to get to the bottom of it...

  • @owl  Feb 2022

@kissinginpublic mentioned that you can work around this by changing the url from https to http.

  • @kimbeggs  Feb 2022

I work on a mac and just tried using firefox but file hosting is still not working. hmmm

  • @judypie  Feb 2022

Waaaaaa I can’t hear any of them *cry face*

  • @kimbeggs  Feb 2022

I figured something out I think. I have mac. I upload to file hosting in Firefox and develop my song page there. Then I can listen in Chrome.

  • @lmr  Feb 2022

Hey all, I'm having the same problems with google chrome and in Safari (I could hear audio for a short time in Safari and then went back and heard nothing). I want to be able to be supportive of everyone, but can only comment on people's lyrics at this point. I'll try some of the things folks are discussing here.

  • @majormajormajormajor  Feb 2022

Looks to me like it's cleared up- at least on my 5yo macbook running chrome. I had also run into some ssl issues on the file server that I was able to work around, but those appear to have cleared up as well. Bravo!

  • @jessicamoon  Feb 2022

I just downloaded the SoundCloud app so I could post the song I made today (I couldn’t see any other way to do it). SoundCloud is pretty easy to use. It took 5 minutes to get my song in there! :)

  • @davidbreslin101  Feb 2022

Oddly enough, post website rebuild I can now listen to FAWM-hosted songs on Firefox, which never worked before!

  • @burrsettles  Feb 2022

Yes, @ericdistad got to the bottom of this and it should be fixed now.

  • @carlos Feb 2022

Hi All, I'm still having issues with what I know are valid URLs to my own site.... but same thing , some folks can't get teh player going... try http:// or https:// add www.site or just site and sometimes it plays, sometimes not... :/. @ericdistad is there something different about the URL structure that’s needed now?

  • @ericdistad  Feb 2022

@carlos - Demo URLs should be https:// if at all possible. Some browsers do not like mixing secure and unsecure content.

If you use https:// I would check the certificate chain on the server to ensure it's serving the full cert path. Some browsers will just take any old cert - others throw hidden errors.
