I've done a lot of singing. Musical theatre, show choir, jazz choir, fronting an indie folk band. But writing solo doesn’t exactly come easy to me and it’s something I’m always aiming to improve. However, I'm proud to say I completed FAWM 2017, and hope to do so again this year, and the next, and the next, and the next… !

Sunday, I went ahead and recorded a video, not to post it anywhere yet, but just to get used to doing it. Then on the weekly family zoom when it was just me and my parents, I offered to play a song for them. Thanks again for modeling video bravery.

I think it is so cool that you make videos. One day I would like to be brave enough to do that. On the bravery front one thing I tell myself a lot is that deciding if it’s good enough isn’t part of my job description. I like creating then making things better but not the choosing and ranking. I’d love to collaborate some year if you are up for it. It’s so much fun to know that at least one other person enjoys something enough to help make it.

About leaving messages on others' soundboards instead of your own, I think everybody makes that mistake their first couple of years on FAWM. I did. :) I really consider my 3rd year on FAWM as my first real one, because it took me that long to discover things and to realize the true value in FAWM is this wonderful community. There isn't another like on the the whole wide web. It's so supportive and I always learn something new here every year to improve my music writing. It's a bit late now, but next year check out the forums. I also discovered that a lot of people reciprocate when you leave comments on their songs. I know I do, so if you're looking to draw more listeners next year, go check out some songs and leave comments on ones you like. Many people feel they're not very good at commenting and don't know what to say, but I think people like simply hearing that you enjoyed their music. I found I got better at commenting the more I did it, but I probably still leave some lame comments. I feel like I was where you are now when I first started here and before I started studying music theory. FAWM is such a great confidence builder, if you let it be. I really hope you return next year to explore it further.

Oh, and I'm not fishing for comments, so please don't feel you need to comment on any of my songs. I've had plenty already this year, so I'm good. :)

Hi Rachel, just a tip for responding to comments - your thank-yous may not be seen unless the person returns here to your page. If you leave your response on the person's soundboard, they won't miss it. Just click on their FAWM name to reach their page. It also makes it easier to reciprocate listens and comments. I'm glad to find another talented singer/songwriter here on FAWM. Almost missed you. :) Hope to see you back here again next FAWM.

yeah, I hear ya on instrumental skills holding you back - I'm at the same place. But it's good to give whatever you have in your hands, too, even if it doesn't sound like what you had imagined (sigh).

@winchperry hey! Nice to see you over here! Thank you, that’s so sweet! The Valentines song I wrote years ago so it doesn’t feel right to post it here, doesn’t count as a 2022 FAWM song. But I’m working on a new song right now that I’m hoping to put up tonight!
I’m loving your stuff too by the way!

Hi Rachel. I follow you on tik tok. You should post your valentine's song on here. I love your voice!
