Influences: SJ Tucker, Wax Chaotic, Mercedes Lackey, Heather Dale, Cheshire Moon, The Cruxshadows, Nightwish, Kamelot, Keldian, other filk & symphonic metal bands.
Hi, I'm Gabrielle (she/her)! What I write is closest to filk, otherwise known as fantasy, sci-fi, and convention music.
2021 was marginally less hot-mess-y than 2020. Let's call it a reasonably warm mess. Regardless, I am back for year 8, and we'll see what happens. Trying to keep an open mind and a low bar. :P
I was thoroughly inspired to spice up my profile after reading all your lovely intros, so:
Favorite weird animal: Three-way tie between pangolin, platypus, and panda. Yes, I must like the letter P. Yes, I edited this to include the Oxford comma. Yes, pandas are super weird. Fun fact - their teeth don't match their digestive systems. I love patchwork designs.
Favorite obscure internet reference: Tie between "Large generic blunt object" and "That is also my egg." Google if you must. Happy hunting!
Claim to fame: I have won one song contest in my life, in senior year of high school, at a local sci-fi convention. The topic was "Godzilla". I am still proud.
Other tidbits: My day job is at an academic library, and I have several fantasy novels in the works.
If you want to get in touch with me 'cause something looks nifty, or you have a question unrelated to my songs, feel free to send me a message. I like meeting new people. Good luck everyone, and may the sporks be with you.

done! Enjoy the chaos. I'm sure you will, expect a visit from me too after the rubble clears Tuesday! :)
Thanks SO much for putting "I won't be famous" on the recommendation thread. I'm honored! I nearly didn't finish/post that song, because I wasn't sure it worked, so I'm glad to hear it resonated.
Thanks for your comment on "Clear As Crystal!"
Hey Tawny, Did a quick vox only scratch track of Folly Hill, melody is there and I have an opening finger picking riff/melody should be sending you in couple of days.
Thanks! Still plenty of time left :).
Thanks so much Gabrielle for your lovely comments on 'Ain't that the Truth'.
Thank you for your kind comment on “Oh Sisyphus”! :D
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Many, many thanks for the listen and your kind and encouraging words...
Hey Gabrielle! Thanks so much for your kind & thoughtful words about my first FAWM song. I can't tell you much about my choice of chords either as I too lack any musical theory! LOL
Have a great FAWM and I'll be sure to check out your songs the first chance I get.
Thanks for your message! I think the Zoom R8 is magical :). I also think I've spent nearly all my ideas now... but we'll see...
Thank you for your kind comment on “Silver”!
Thanks for your notes on "Dust". I didn't know about the difference of unfortune and misfortune. Guess it's a typical German native speaker problem, because most negative words starts with "un" (un-glücklich, un-geschickt) and we only have the dis in foreigh words. I have to sing both versions to figure out which sounds better. Somebody else is already working on the verses let's see what comes out. Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks for the comment on "Wireweaver's Theme" and especially for the recommendation! I'm flattered. ^_^
Thanks for the comments! I am flattered to be compared with Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq, I love his stuff. Although I don't think I can pull off the beard and bow tie.
Have a wonderful FAWM :)
Happy FAWM friend!!!!
Happy FAWMing tawny!
May your FAWM be excellent too!
Hello hello! :D Happy FAWM 2022!
Sorry! I meant Gabrielle! xx
Thanks Tawny. it is great to be back :)
Looking forward to hearing lots of new music!
I'm so glad Hookpad looks like a good fit for you! I don't see any downside with paying for Hookpad.
I pay for both Hookpad and Band in a Box. Once you start getting comfortable with the chords, there's just a lot more you can do with BiaB. (Like instead of decent computer baking tracks, BiaB also has "real tracks" which are played by musicians.)
BiaB isn't friendly to beginners, and the things Hookpad teaches with the chords will all translate to BiaB. Plus with Hookpad, not only can you get sheet music, you can get the Lilypond source code for the sheet music, (and Lilypond is open-source and cross-platform) so you're not locked in to the platform if you grow to a point you stop using it.
(For instance, by default Hookpad produces guitar tabs, but with the Lilypond source, it is easy to change that to ukulele tabs.)
Thanks for the welcome! I'm plinking a couple of ukes and blowing and sucking on harp, I suppose :).
Can't wait to see your creations! Have a great FAWM!!
The thought occurred to me that you might like to try https://hookpad.hooktheory.com -- It's a super easy place to play around with chords and melodies, and it can also generate a complete (if limited) backing track, as well as sheet music for your songs. (Though I think all of the export options are in the paid features, you can play around with song composition for free, which would allow you to explore easy chords for your songs, and simple automatic backing tracks.)
Once a person can write a song with melody and chords, it's possible to use Band in a Box and get fancier backing tracks. But if you need to just explore chords with your melody, I find Hookpad really easy to pick up and start that journey.
If you're not interested, that's totally cool. It was just a thought that it might be useful to you, so I thought I'd mention it.
Hi friend! Excited to see what gorgeous stuff you come up with this year.
Wishing you a great FAWM, too!
Hi Gabrielle! Happy FAWMing to you too. Hope it's a great month for you.
Hey! Thank you. I'm looking forward to this FAWM for sure. I hope you're well and that you have a great month!
Hello! Nice to see you back for another year of musical mayhem. Let's hope you feel inspired!
Howdy tawny! And thanks for that health check on me! I sometimes worry that I might have rabies so I bite someone and wait to see if they start foaming at the mouth. So far...I'm clean!
Hi Gabrielle and have a great FAWM!
Hi Gabrielle! It’s so nice to ‘meet’ you here! Happy FAWMing :) I love your bio. I’m obsessed with squirrels, ferrets, cats, and all animals really. I often prefer their company over a human LOL. Are you from Columbus, Ohio by any chance? I’m near Cincy! Have a lovely time here.
All cool with that! I hope you regained some energy. Have a great FAWM!
Welcome back!
:) Thanks for that! Have a great FAWM!!
