Artist Bio

Influences:   Most anything raw and loud and in-your-face catches my attention. Any genre with the word "Hard" in the name: Hard Rock, Hard Funk, Hard Country, Hard Opera - if that exists, I'd surely like it! If not, I'll probably try to write it here... Also weird - anything that challenges the norm. I also like mashing genres and concept albums.

Fawming another concept album this year. Here's the cover art:

Also really enjoyed my new three-piece garage punk band, LCoD in 2021. Released three covers and a live EP so far. You can hear here: http://BlastDaddy.com - or click the links below...

Yeah marketing is every unsolicited artist's achilles heel but it's essential. Here is where gimmicks can motivate artists to spam and pass out CDs in street corners. If you're just another band without some gimmick to stand out, well.....nothing there to sell right? I can hear the fucking clueless yell out "let the music do the talking". OK. Good luck with that lol.
When i feel like it i'll read your story; I'm convinced i'll get more than 3 laughs ;-)

Hey, YES. Let's collaborate sometime, that would be great. It's funny but I did this writing thing this year as sort of a well why not let's see what happens, but I was also thinking that if I wanted to pursue it any further then involving other people either on the writing or the song end would be the way to go. Could be interesting to have someone else interpret a song through writing, or vice versa....anyway let's be in touch about it, I'm [email protected]

Cheers for the comment on Sarvá! I'm glad you liked it and enjoyed the bass rumble!

  • @burrsettles  Feb 2022

hiya! you ask "feels like to be the progenitor of this thing that is so embraced by so many people all over the world" — and the honest answer is i don't know, i don't have much time to think about it. i'm grateful and happy that it gives so many folks such joy. i don't think there's a "document of its genesis" per se, although that might be a fun thing to put together... stay tuned.... :)

Thanks so much for your comment on The Watch. From your soundboard it seems like you made a lot of people's day. You certainly made mine. One of the cool things about your comment - you said the song really put you in that "tower." The lyrics don't actually mention a tower, but the original lyrics did. Tells me I did the job, at least as far as lyrics are concerned. Still going to tighten up some of the "rhythmically challenged" guitars and some drum hits, etc. but I think it's coming along. I guess if I had a "Theme Song" this would be it. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for the comment on Alkutuli! I've moulded the myths and other stuff fitting to my story, so it's not precise. There are actually several different creation stories in the Finnish paganism. But I hope you enjoy my stuff! :)

Hey thanks for your comment and yeah- you nailed it, I'm doing all this writing sort of patterned after that element of a screenplay where you create a whole backstory for a minor character even if that's not in the movie. Sort of trying to force myself to be less vague in my songwriting, to have more intention behind it...not sure if it's actually working but that's the idea! I read this interview with the actor who played that totally fucked up guy chained to the truck playing guitar in that last Mad Max movie- "Fury Road" I think? Did you see it? Anyway the dude has no lines in the movie, he's in it for a few seconds at a time, and the director worked with him to create this crazy other movie that is his character's backstory, like he was locked underground in a cave for years and then freed by this mercenary's army and it went on and on, really elaborate. Anyway....made me think of trying something like that. I'm gonna check out that writing group you mentioned! Hi to your mom! Love what you're doing here

  • @leepat  Feb 2022

no worries man and no stress - only if you find the time.

  • @seppo Feb 2022

    Thanks Man :)
Drums are programmed but no other samples has been used.
I haven't figured it out yet how to use those, so for now just must play everything :)

  • @howthenightcame Feb 2022

hello sync, just wanted to say a big thank you for the wonderful comment you left today. it is far and away the best message i've ever received during FAWM... i'm going to take a screenshot of it for keeps!!
    best wishes, htnc

Hi! Thanks for the note you left on my soundboard. I use the VI plug-in Superior Drummer 3 on most productions. We have an acoustic kit here at the studio but it’s just easier and saves a lot of time to use SD3 for productions. When you compare the finished result their really isn’t much in it! Considering they are samples recorded from real kits.

  • @arkka  Feb 2022

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, it's an electric. It's funny because when I was recording I thought to myself "people are going to think this is an acoustic". It's actually a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 with active EMGs which is a popular metal guitar but I often end up using it for cleans because it sounds so clean. The way I like to record clean arpeggios is double-tracking using different pickups. This time it was PU selector in the middle position for one track and the neck PU on the other track, neck PU split in both cases. I think that's a huge part of the sound.

As for making instrumentals, a lot of it is me being unable to sing but that might be because I never felt the need to sing so it's both perhaps.

Looking forward to listening to more of your stuff. Btw, the LCoD stuff kicks ass!

  • @leah0k Feb 2022

Hey! Thank you for the input on Make it Happen- I really appreciate it! I like the idea of an egg shaker. I want to keep it pretty sparse and simple, but still have a little something rhythmic- that might be just the perfect thing!

  • @xfloorpunchx  Feb 2022

Hey! Thanks for your comment on my unfinished love song. A FAWMer is supposed to give it a try, but if i dont have news in the next days, you could definitely make something!

  • @bamsekarhu  Feb 2022

Thank you man! I mostly try to do things that seem amusing to me :)
The signal chain in my growls is preamp with mild saturation (UA-610-A) -> Another mild tube saturator -> comp (LA-2A) -> comp (1176)-> limiter (LA-3A) -> de-esser. So mostly it comes from the throat, there's no added pitch stuff, just mild saturation and heavy compression. Mostly it's the throat :D Clean vocals are mostly the same but with milder comp.

All the other stuff is midi:

Guitars are Odin II -> Neural DSP Archetype Gojira (it's faster for me to program the hell out of these than to play actual guitar with my shitty skills...)
    Bass is Loki 2.
Drums are Addictive drums (no presets, just dry samples I mix myself, the AD2 metal presets are terrible...), but I bought Bogren Mini sample pack (just 1 snare and 1 kick) that really bring the punch in the drum mix!
The folky instruments are all from Dark Era, and on other songs I use stuff from EastWest as well.

  • @spikedirection  Feb 2022

Thanks man! The show will be live on xrpradio.co.uk from 10pm GMT tomorrow night, then on mixcloud after

  • @leepat  Feb 2022

Hey, thx for listening. You're welcome to sing, if you like. I can send you the tracks so you can blot out the solo guitar in places. Don't know if I'll be up for rerecording, but who knows. Let me know

  • @mikeb  Feb 2022

Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Groundhog Day'. There are 2 ukes playing the main rhythm on the song - a concert uke and a baritone uke, which is tuned like the top 4 strings on a guitar, so gives a fuller sound.

  • @bamsekarhu  Feb 2022

Thanks so much for the awesome comments! Yeah, Entten tentten... is the finnish equivalent of the eeny meeny rhyme :)
