2022 marks my 10th FAWM. Last week of January is always filled with the usual excitement and utter dread of drawing a blank. Happens every year so I just jump in and balls to the wall. My goal is to divide my time between my own solo explorations, the always exciting collaborations, along with a few skirmishes one morph challenge and maybe one random pairing.
Oh, and setting up some new gear! Antelope interface and mic have been added to my arsenal along with a vintage keyboard.
I just got back from a few gigs in California to clear my head, play out, sit in with friends, eat tons of Mexican and shake the covid cobwebs off my soul. :0)

Hey thank you! I hope to be back next year!
Did you record your guitar using the SM57 setup??
There is just *so much* good stuff on FAWM, and you never ever disappoint musically--I feel bad I'm just getting around to more listening now. Thanks for all you add to this community Sonya. I really appreciate you!
I was hoping we would have been in the same breakout room!! WOW, what a small world :) So nice to see you!
Thank you so much for your generous comment on Tiny Grass, Sonya!
FYI, I initially misread the comment and thought the "gifted" and "innate connection" portions were about me. I was like, "going a bit overboard there, Sonya, but I'll take the compliment!" Then I read it again and realized those lines were about Donna and it made a lot more sense. :-)
I'm mortified- check yer email...
Yep… same chord shapes that you would in normal tuning like the F or Bm shape bar chord shape which would result in a different chord if strings tuned differently.
Thank you so much for your kind words <3 will definately listen to more of your songs
??? > https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12954/
I may need a hail mary play before this ends ... I know I can count on you to roll with the punches... stay tuned.
Thanks for the kind comments on A World of Quiet Beauty, very happy with how it turned out Doug's words are great.
Thank you for the awesome comment on Take It On The Chin! ‘Quit the day job’… the DREAM. One day maybe :)
Need to catch up with the rest of your songs btw! I am most intrigued by ‘Sausage Snob’…
I really like "Songbird Sister". That made me smile pretty big :))))
I've appreciated each and every comment from you Sonya! You've had a magnificent FAWM!! I hope spring inspires even more music from you!!
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. :) (you’re the 3rd person I’ve now cost money this FAWM lol)
Thanks Sonya, you too! Eighteen songs is a great return!
Wow! Thanks!!
Thanks for the comment on The Window is Closing. I really started the song meaning to write a confession song about all of us current adults being guilty of not taking care of the future generations’ planet, but I guess the rock feel moved me toward a more accusatory tone in later verses.
Wow, Sonya. Thank you for the generous comment on "Together". You are far too kind. :)
Thank you so much for all the recent comments, Sonya. I'm glad you got to listen to the collabs I did with Justin and cheslain. I feel truly lucky to be a part of FAWM and to be able to work with musicians like you and them and all the others who have so much talent!
Hey, thanks for the lovely comment on Décortiqué, glad you liked it - really cool to hear that it's a good track for drivin' around to! :)
Hey Sonya! We met at Jean's a few years ago. I didn't realize you were a fellow FAWMer. How wonderful! Looking forward to checking out your songs.
Thanks, Sonya! Your comments mean so much to me! I’m am now craving a hot dog…
Your havana - way cool! :)
Thanks so much! I’m also looking forward to listening more! I see you have Balkan singing on your inspo!! I also love that and joined a group for a couple months once!
Sonya, wow, every shade of you is tremendous, what a feat of poetry and musicianship. "...a compass for the dreamers
a beacon for the brave..." You are truly a master of both the magic and the craft.
Sonya...thank you for all of your beautiful and uplifting comments.
Knowing you and others I admire are in the game gives me the impetus and hope to carry on.
You inspire me! xoxo
Thanks for all of your thoughtful comments. Especially the last one. Much appreciated. We all had so many losses over the past few years but we also had joys - those just didn’t fit into those lyrics. And the number of families with multiple Covid losses was crazy sad. Life. Through dark times we appreciated the joyous ones even more.
Thank you so much for your generous comment on "Clear", Sonya. Coming from you, it means a lot. I'll be back in March (or sooner) to dig further into your catalog. :)
:)
Congrats on your win! Looking forward to listening to some of the ones I've missed so far.
Geez, how did I misspell your name!? Sorry, I’ll fix.
One last fast and furious super GIMME15epsilon is GO! Quick quick turn around before end of FAWM. are you in? https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12764/
Thank you, Sonya <3 I have a lot of catching up to do with your music. In the meantime, I wish you a happy final week!
Thank you!! I always love hearing what you create too. I will be here all of March to listen to others albums :) I’m trying something new this year. Write in February and listen in March. That seems like a doable balance for me :) Enjoy the rest of your fawm time!
Hi Sonya, thanks for your kind words on Dorian Gray :-)
:) Thanks, Sonya...

there used .to be plenty of reporters like me but most of us lost our jobs with .the collapse of .the free press in 2009. when .the seattle pi went under, a bunch of us who could not rein in our .thoughts carried on .without pay by creating our own pos.t-globe and after 2 years could no longer sustain .it......surviving newspapers fired .their best writers and replaced .them with compliant hacks.
PS I was playing it again and my partner Carmen shouted through from the kitchen: "Listening to Joni Mitchell at 8am?" :-)
Thanks again for your "musication" of my lyrics. I want to learn to play this! What tuning are you using? DADGAD? What key are you in? Have you any idea of the chords you used? Answers on a postcard to.... Er.. No.. answers in an email please. x x x
Sorry I hadn't listened to any of your stuff yet!
The bad news your computer crash and all the extra work that entails.
The good news? You've set my song to music! Hooray! I can't wait to hear it! :-)
Hi
I sent you a FB message
Thank you for such a lovely message! And thank you too for taking a listen and leaving such great feedback on my twiddling. :-)
Thanks for the listen and comment on my collab with Tams, 'We Don't Have a Clue'!
Thank you so so much for your comment on shining light lovely. And am more than happy it sounds banjo realistic but sad to say its not me playing. Its simply a loop i found in apple . Banjo is the only string based instrument i have never even had a go at!!!!! would be nice to try though
Here I am! :) Big hugs to you!!
:)
Another corpse starting... join me? https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12399/
Your welcome..i hope it works out well for you.
Cheers
Thank you for your comment on Humanity. Then my singing bowl hit the right note
Re: Butterfly Dance
The SM57on the 12th eh?...I'm going to do that very same thing next time!!!
The SM57 was about 6" from the fret board...if I was using my Taylor which had a much brighter sound that the Martin I would point it at the 14/15 fret to pick up a little more low end but not boomy.
I then double the track and offset the delay by 10-14ms then I
pan L-R to about 70% and EQ one bright and the other a little darker but not too much.
I hope this helps...PS I had new stings on and you can here that fuzzy sliding on the strings
I hope this helps.
Thx for your kind words on the Butterfly Dance
Ha ha! You crack me up! You can't sing like Blondie? I have to tell you that I think about you every day and want to come up with a lyric that is right for you. Still two weeks to go! :)
Hi Sonya, could you please take a look at the lyrics in the song in the link below. I never had time to do the music for them in the skirmish and I would be honoured if you took up the challenge. The rhyme schemes is deliberately out of my comfort zone. One of the reasons it took me more than my usual amount of time to write the song.
https://fawm.org/songs/130730/
I definitely will! Your website is very nice btw! I’ll drop you a line sometime soon!
Oh, Sonya, I love your comment on my "Straight Talking" - I feel like you just justified my whole existence. :)
Lou reed and Laurie Anderson are two of my biggest influences! That’s so cool! Well I really dig your musical stylings! Would love to pick your brain some time!
Thanks so much for popping by and for your kind words. Thank you for getting me to do this! Truly an amazing experience despite being virtual!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your comments.
Thank you for the comment on The Woodsman, Sonya! Made me smile :)
You're welcome! It's hard for me to enjoy folk because I'm a fan of huge arrangements. I love prolific artist. My muse also runs completely wild. Guess I have to catch her! It's a small world...
Got it, thanks!
Thank you Sonya. I've watchlisted you!!
Hi! I wanted to stop by and tell you how much I appreciated reading your comments on The Meltdown. It's difficult to put into words what that means to me.
Let me know if you need bpm or chords or anything like that.
Thank you so much for listening!
Hello! You are up next in the #morph1 !
Here's my tune:
https://fawm.org/songs/129004/
When I saw that forum post my first thought was "Why's she asking, she's old hand at this!" and then re-read it and saw you were asking for the benefit of the fawmlings. You helped me out a lot my first fawm so I was happy to flex my forum muscles. :) I think it was a good idea to try and round up those loose threads into one place.
Thanks Sonya, you too! Yes don’t worry I’m sure there’s lots of naughtiness still to come in my lyrics ;) Have a great FAWM and can’t wait to see what else you create. Have revisited never surprise me a few times now, it’s really great!!
Wow Sonya! Thank you for the in depth review of my piano dream. Much app!
So that dance card ;)… what sort of style would work? In my head I was assuming something pared back and folky, but then I thought maybe you might want to try something totally different? I don’t know. But you have my email so… hit me up, let’s swap some ideas :)
:)
Wow, those harmonies are amazing! Fawm theme song?
Thank you, Sonya<3 right back at ya!!! I love your vibe. Looking forward to hearing more!!
Thank you Sonya! "Skyscraper" has been a lot of work. And I'm so happy how this little joke became so big after a couple of weeks.
Thanks, Sonya! Always wonderful to see you here.
HI Sonya, listening to your first song now. Nice to meet you here and hard to believe we haven't cross paths up until now.
Aww, you're very welcome! Best wishes to you with it! I am certified to do angel card readings and every FAWM I treat myself to a new deck. I love seeing what everyone does with the cards and I learn the new decks better every February :)
Hi sister/girlfriend
Just checking in to let you know that I showed up!!
Can't wait to hear your fabulous songs
Hi, Sonya,

Hey SunnyMae,
I'm doing my homework, like a good l'il Fawnling!
Hi Sonya! :)
Let's see what we can get up to this time around. ;)
Dear Sonya,
Still loving your CDs and looking forward to your FAWM creations - hopefully there may be some opportunities to collaborate! You know I would love that!
Thank you for the kind welcome! :)
Sonya! I share in your mix of excitement and dread. I may never be ready. But February doesn't care. I think it's practicing some kind of tough love or something but I can't read February's mind and it's playing it pretty close to the vest. That's ok though, we'll coax its secrets out of it one song at a time. Fawm on!
oh, yes, very ready. Bring it on.
Wishing you a happy, creative FabFeb, my friend. I'll email you in the next few days! :)
Hugs!
Good to see you here! Have an excellent Fawm
Musical sister with a soul full of song It's been a year, the wait was too long. Create your magic for longing fans. Our ears are ready for your FAWM to begin.
