Artist Bio

Influences:   everything for better or worse. Like Tom Waits, Dylan, Gillian Welch, Brad Mehldau, folk, old time music. classic rock, 80's alternative, etc

Have written about a dozen songs. Played everything and some of it very badly -- punk, jazz, blues, rock, folk, old time. Did a bunch of busking thru Covid...ton's of fun! Currently very acoustic. Guitar, singing, fiddle. But some of this FAWM work might go more electric. Remains to be seen!

    Congrats on the FAWM win.

  • @sorby69  Feb 2022

Hey Rob! Thanks for the nice words about my "Who's shaking the jar?" song - much appreciated! :)

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 2022

Rob, you've just about doubled your catalogue. Nice!

  • @mandolinda  Feb 2022

You should join our Simcoe County skirmish tonight at 7. https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12754/
And we have a Zoom at 830 after to share our songs.

Yeh, zecoop, guatecoop, and srcoops are a family formidable. And all on my watchlist.

  • @funnypunkband  Feb 2022

Hey Rob, thanks for checking out my stuff and offering your encouragement!

  • @mandolinda  Feb 2022

Thanks for all the listens. You had an afternoon of Mandolinda tunes..

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 2022

Cool. An old friend uses Ableton to record his band, too, to good effect. I tried the free version of Cubase a while ago, and I agree there's some weird limitations. I can't see how that Cubase is effective, if it's meant to be entry-level gear that attracts new paying users.

  • @crutherford  Feb 2022

yes! please steal away! :) also, thanks for checking out the ditty. it was a fun one to write!

Hi Rob, good guess about Bingo - I was looking for a chorus and I picked up an old deadline comic (Tankgirl started there) and I opened it on a page with that line on it. Glad you liked the tune.

  • @zecoop  Feb 2022

Haha!! We officially have a club now... Basement Furnace Room Drummers! thanks for listening! :)

  • @tuneslayer  Feb 2022

The name "Downtown Freddy Brown" doesn't ring any bells, but that's not too surprising. Filk isn't a large community but it's geographically diverse and until the days of Covid and Zoom I didn't know many filkers outside the west coast.

  • @tuneslayer  Feb 2022

My banker? LOL that was random :)

  • @mandolinda  Feb 2022

Hi Rob.`I am not planning to go to the camping weeks this summer, but I am going to the Songwriting weekend in June. I think a week of camping in unpredictable weather is getting to be too much for me. I attended the songwriting camp with David Francey, and really enjoyed the weekend, so I am going to go to this year’s one too.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2022

I should warn you... I tend to write a LOT of stuff in February.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2022

    Thanks for your kind comments!

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 2022

Hey Rob. Where in Canada are you? The only non-specific advice I can think of is: There are songs everywhere. Let go of everything about music and lyrics that you think are "cool", and just let whatever's around you be inspiration.

  • @ductapeguy  Feb 2022

Yay Rob. I have added you to my watchlist and I'll add you to my list of Simcoe County Fawmers. My first year in 2013, I was the only one. It is so great to have a bunch of locals around.

Hi Rob, thanks for saying "hi" on my soundboard! I HAVE been doing the Pat Pattison songwriting challenges. I really love them. Forces me out of my old habits and into more interesting lyrics. I love how he says to really pay attention to your verbs. I haven't gotten to the metaphor section yet. Looking forward to hearing your songs!

  • @robheron1  Jan 2022

Has anyone done the Pat Pattison Songwriting challenges? I'm sure a lot of people on here are familiar with these. I have been doing them and I am hoping they will improve my lyrics. Here's where we find out!!!!

  • @robheron1  Jan 2022

I'm into this. F-day minus 1!!! Changing strings today. Checking my Soundcloud and Bandcamp accounts.

  • @robheron1  Jan 2022

This should be interesting. Question is will I give up or just let the quality suffer? Hmmmm....
