Artist Bio

Influences:   Growing up marinated in Classic Rock, it's hard not to have that influence. But I gravitate to lyricists like Dylan, Brian Wilson, Lennon-McCartney, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Warren Zevon, Randy Newman, Bono, Jackson Browne, John Hyatt, Lou Reed, Chrissie Hynde, Sting, Billy Joel, Donald Fagan, Don Henley, Eddie Vedder and of course Pete Townshend.

Piano lessons as a kid; rock bands in high school, picked up guitar later on, and ended up on bass and keys ever since; 7 or so bands, maybe 250 gigs through 2019. Have played exactly ONE outdoor gig in pandemic time, but am looking forward to returning to open mic nites and real performances sometime soon.

Thanks for all your comments :) I have really enjoyed FAWM, and we'll stop by 'Charlesbridge' to do a gig

  • @oswlek Feb 2022

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a generous comment on "Tiny Grass". You aren't on the western side of the state are you? :)

  • @mikeb  Feb 2022

Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Emerald Fire'!

  • @saulius Feb 2022

Wow, I never received a compliment like that in my entire life! Pet Sounds is the gold standard. Thank you!!

  • @intoyourlight  Feb 2022

Thank you for your comment on @nedgreenough’s and my colab :) yes it could definitely be in a movie. Though I refuse to be the princess :D I always liked the dark forces more, so maybe a witchy princess then.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments. I've discovered a lot of unique, quirky and just plain interesting posts over the past few weeks, and I appreciate everyone who took the time to comment on my posts. Wizard (No Ordinary Cat) has now been posted! Apparently there are a lot of cat lovers out there. Well, also some "cat-tolerators" like me, judging by the comments. Yeah, I'm still a dog person. Watched a lot of cable news yesterday sampling different networks for their perspective. My thoughts on that theme are now posted as "The Outrage Machine".

  • @aaronnathans Feb 2022

    Awesome! Thank you!

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

Hi, raspberry33, I'm glad you liked @metalfoot's interpretation of Somethin' Better as an "Appalachian Love Song." (Me, too.) Since then, @paulharrision asked to do his version, too. Totally different, and I like it, too. So fun to hear two different interpretations for the same lyric.

  • @nancycunning  Feb 2022

Thanks so much for listening and responding and for posting all your great songs. I'm so happy to be here and feel like I've found my people.

I'd love to write together sometime, next FAWM, this FAWM or in the off-months.

  • @raspberry33  Feb 2022

"Clockwork" mentions my cat, but I'm still trying to get "Wizard" to sound right, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, I woke up this morning with "Manhattan" rolling through my head, only sung from the perspective of Vladimir Putin contemplating how he's going to spend his summer vacation. Check out "We'll have Crimea".

  • @corvisier Feb 2022

    Thank you raspberry !

  • @grenzgaengerin Feb 2022

Thank you for your comment on "Goldnugget in the Litter box" I'm really looking forward to your cat song :D

  • @gregwere Feb 2022

Thanks for your kind words re: Copenhagen - it's E tuned down to D, on capo 2 position. Cheers Greg

  • @marthie Feb 2022

The piano sound is a piano sound from an old garageband I saved as a template to use in Logic. Ppl tell me this and that sound is better but man- I am in love with this sound. Grand piano. I could share the template with you if you use GB or logic

  • @conuladh Feb 2022

So, I needed to do some home admin and thought I'd listen to music that I'd never heard before. Where better than FAWM. I saw that you had commented ( thank you :D) on my song Mirrors and decided to listen to all your songs - I've not done that before, I had an excellent time listening. You painted pictures of places I have never seen, brought back youthful memories, made me laugh and brightened a dull day. Loved the music, the lyrics, the styles, your multi-instrumentalism and your inventiveness. Thanks a lot.

Magic #14 tonight! Yeah! I have two others that didn't make the cut first time around, but now with the pressure off, maybe they'll come around. Thanks for all the kind comments. And definitely, "My Aching Knees" is going on my setlist. (Go check it out at https://fawm.org/songs/131140/)

  • @rubberbandage  Feb 2022

Hey, thanks so much! I’d be delighted for you to play “My Aching Knees” or any others. The chords are very simple, if you didn’t already figure them out — capo on the 6th fret, chord forms are C, G6, Fmaj7 G/G7/G6, and then the bridge is just F G Am / F G C. Break a leg (but not a kneecap!) :-)

  • @radioovermoscow Feb 2022

    Thanks!

  • @siasa  Feb 2022

Hey, thanks for dropping by and listening to 'Empire.' So glad it connected with you - a couple of people from the US have said they relate to it, which is great. Helluva good influences you cite up there: I'll be sure to listen in to a couple of yours. Looks like you're nearly at the magic 14 already!

  • @bobjestes  Feb 2022

Thanks for listening and commenting on ‘The Current Current’. I appreciate it.

  • @mattoxic  Feb 2022

Thanks for the comments on Needles in the Strawberries. Appreciated that.

  • @p3t3h4rv3y Feb 2022

I still think that cars eating Cleveland will end up getting used, thanks for the feedback on Vulture Squadron, I think the guitars should go up, but there isn't time to mix and remix. See you along the trail :)

  • @howthenightcame Feb 2022

thanks for the lovely feedback on my track!! i like your idea of looping unequal cells of music (ala reich, riley, eno and fripp). what i'm doing this FAWM is laying down thirteen of these one minute pieces, so that the fourteenth and final track can involve some kind of remixing. i'll keep your suggestion in mind if and when i finally get there. thank you!!

  • @raspberry33  Feb 2022

We might be twin sons of different mothers, like Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weinberg. Yeah, a lot of shared heritage. My short career as a church organist was terminated when I played In-a-Gadda-da-Vida as the recessional. (It was worth it!)
And, yes, I'm using Garage Band. I've only recently discovered how to tweak the reverb. I'm sure there's some other trickery hidden in the software. I was looking to put reverse reverb on the Great Story vocals, so maybe it's time to actually read the GarageBand manual!

  • @p3t3h4rv3y Feb 2022

just read your comments about our shared rock experience/heritage, yes I agree - I was going to say after listening to the one noter - that it reminds me of me? but it sounded way to egocentric :) Are you using garage band? or something more tricksy?

  • @p3t3h4rv3y Feb 2022

    You spotted the Catholic references!

  • @mandolinda  Feb 2022

Oh yes, I live in snow belt, in Central Ontario, north of Toronto. Thank goodness, the local groundhog predicted an early spring. Thanks for giving my songs a listen.

  • @sorby69  Feb 2022

Hey there! Thanks for the kind words about my first FAWM song. Yeah, I think the "Who's shaking the jar?" angle is quite strong (and pertinent!) so perhaps it didn't deserve any of the slapstick, throwaway lines I lobbed in there. Maybe I'll revisit it post-FAWM. Anyway, thanks again - it's nice to know our songs are getting listenened to. :)

  • @pauloramos Feb 2022

Hey, thanks for listening to my song, I'm glad you liked it. Though I admit it always takes a few takes to get a good recording. It never happens by magic! All the best with your FAWM-ing this year :)

  • @n24  Feb 2022

Thank you for the kind comment on my track!

  • @markg  Feb 2022

Love your Route 1 song. It's a check list of as many of the quirky sites that can fit in one song, though there are many, many more left unmentioned. Very cool. The North Shore's answer to "Roadrunner" and "Mass Ave."

  • @tseaver  Jan 2022

    Welcome, and happy FAWMing!
