Artist Bio

Hello and welcome. We are three guys writing pop songs in our bedrooms, we hope you enjoy them,

This year we don't have any plans other than to write and demo at least 14 bangers.

We completed our first FAWM in 2006, back in the days of the Pink Cowboy.

If you want more you can check out last year's selection of songs on our Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/plushbaby/sets/february-album-writing-month

And if you're really taken by what you hear you can head to our rather confusing website http://plushbaby.org/

Peace, love and thanks for the comments. We really appreciate people connecting and offering constructive criticism and hope we can return the favour!

I have not seen Dune! I kinda hate the book (and the previous film, although I'm far from alone there) and also am not a big fan of the director so I was planning to skip it. But maybe I'll get curious one day.

Thanks for the March comments! Always a treat :)

  • @katestantonsings  Mar 2022

Thank you for all of your supportive comments and listens both here and on SoundCloud, Plushbaby!! Stay connected :)

Damn - I thought you’d intended to hack the February deadline in a big way…

No, The Dutch Widows is not real band, just a figment of my imagination. It’s just me and occasionally my mate Harry playing some bass. We played in bands together in the 90s and it’s nice to imagine we’re still young. I play in a punk/new wave/ska covers band – mostly just to other middle-aged men but with some kind of alcohol issues. We gig quite a bit I guess, or did pre-covid, couple of times a month most years. Sadly Covid issues have halted my involvement with them for the moment, but it’ll all be sorted by the summer hopefully. None of that band has the slightest interest in creating music though – I tried to get the singer involved in FAWM this year and he just said that “people just want to hear what they know”. So that band scratches the live itch and the Widows scratches the creative itch. The chances of both itches being scratched at the same time seems small at the moment…

Thanks for taking a listen to the „Green Saxophon“ - yes, would be nice to have this live in club …

  • @thedutchwidows  Mar 2022

I'm quite excited by the prospect of 14 extra @plushbaby songs - will they be dropping through March? Good way to keep the juices flowing.

I gotta ask - is @plushbaby one person, or more than one person? At various points I've concluded that it might be either, and I'm interested to know. And is it a proper band that one could go and see at a gig? I would definitely go and see that band!

40 Days, yep that's my take on a Motown bass and it was quite tricky so I cut and pasted it for verses and choruses - so hence the 'it needs more notes' (repetitiveness) - well spotted. The horn break was to cover another mistake (too many verse patterns and not the energy to remove them and line everything else back up!). Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad that FAWM continues to give after the month has ended :)

  • @sunnymae  Mar 2022

Hey plushbaby, thanks so much for stopping by and taking a listen to ghost in the window. Glad you're liking the arrangement and yeah the capo is a very cool little item to work with! Cheers!

  • @nadine Mar 2022

Thanks a lot for your comment on "Disco Blues": This has been something completely different for me. @gm7 pushed me out of my comfort zone doing something chill (!!!) and funky (!!!) which I actually enjoyed (!!!!!!). Great eat - We're playing 7ths all the way. I cannot wait to hear the vocal sketch.

  • @janice  Feb 2022

Thanks for your feedback. A gradual build would create progression. Thanks again

  • @mattwdunn  Feb 2022

Thanks for the kind words on ‘This is Not the Beginning’. I think you are right with adding a drop out section. Maybe a quieter chorus with just acoustic/vocals. Halving the length of the pre-chorus is a good shout too. After I give myself a little break I’ll be developing these songs into a proper release so I’ll have a mess with it then

  • @radiobenedetto  Feb 2022

Thanks for the comments on “Nothing But Love.” As for the use of faux Adirondack … “rose pink cadilac” was taken so I decided to use this fun to say outdoor lounge chair instead. An Adirondack chair is a specific wood slat thing but the character in this song is too shallow for the real deal so sits back in knock-off.

  • @chrismyth02 Feb 2022

Thanks for visiting "Thinkabout" I loved working with edward on that track and that bass really slaps!

  • @vomvorton  Feb 2022

Ha, I've covered Favourite T as well. I did a kind of electronic / trip-hoppy version. It also sounds somewhat ropey, in retrospect! Oh well. I think the final chord of that song is my favourite chord of all time. Bugger to actually play though.

  • @bandybum Feb 2022

"The 'stop holding back' line is great, really pops! Really enjoying all of the production elements on this it really zings along. The moody beginnings lead into a storming chorus, very tasteful choices throughout the song. I'm not sure if you're a Eurovision fan (I am) but I could see this performed as one of the more credible tunes, great work!"

    - You absolutely made my day with this comment! Thank you very much indeed :)

  • @pauloramos Feb 2022

Hey thanks for listening to my song, I'm glad you liked it. I haven't listened to John Grant before. He seems to have quite a few albums under his belt. What would you recommend as a starting point?

  • @chrismyth02 Feb 2022

Thanks for checking out "At Your Command" I love the dynamics in that song as well, Nadine did a nice job building that into the arrangement - creates great tension.

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Thanks for your comment on "At your command". Yes, this is a fun tune. Absolutely no idea how and why my muse made me write a song like this but it's banging! Do you think I need real guitars in this song? I'm not sure about the intro riff. The artificial rhythm guitars could work.

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 2022

Totally agree! I forgot to move the drums and cut them out for the second verse! (I played real drums, but did a LOT of cut and paste to structure the song).

  • @celineellis  Feb 2022

Thanks for your comments on my new tune ‘ bright lights of my hometown’ really appreciate it. Totally get what your saying about the best in the bridge. It took me ages just to work out how to make garage band even do it so it’s far from perfect. Fawm demo’s are always quick and dirty. when/if it makes it to the studio, my drummer will get it nailed.

  • @richardmasters  Feb 2022

Thanks for stopping by - it didn't have to do as many takes as I thought I'd have to, but it was certainly no one-take wonder!

  • @juoppis  Feb 2022

Thanks, it was such a good idea that I made a new bounce right away and put it to SoundCloud :)

  • @karlsburg25  Feb 2022

Thanks heaps for your comment on the bells have rung song. yeah i actually started that as a little challenege not to use guitars and then relented ;-) . Sometimes i use my marshall amp live for the electric stuff, defo for the rockers i end up doing. But yesterday i just used logic x plug ins for the the sounds. Same with the synth bits and bobs. ended up going a bit over the top of course (which i tend to do ;-) )

  • @tuesdaygray Feb 2022

Thank you so much for your kind comment on Prom Queen, I've also just added a link to a clean version because I'm also not sure about the swear words haha

  • @fortelmfield  Feb 2022
