Artist Bio

Influences:   Tom Prasada-Rao, Jackson Browne, Artie Traum, David Wilcox, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Tom Kimmel, Brooks Williams, Pierce Pettis, Johnsmith, Peter Mulvey

Occasionally-performing singer/songwriter/guitarist in MD. I like variety in styles and genres, but mostly write in folk/blues/pop/jazzy genres. I primarily play guitar but also a bit of bass, mandolin, piano, and percussion. I'm an alumnus of Summersongs, Moab, Cedar Run, and Common Ground songwriting camps. I write lyrics and/or music and am happy to collaborate with others whether you are looking for music, lyrics, or to work together on both . Holler if you would like to try something together. If you're interested in hearing some of my music in advance, check out my "sampler" on soundcloud...some are rough versions but you can get an idea of what sorts of things I've written. Happy FAWM-ing!

Hi @paulharrison thanks for your kind words. I like the idea of someone listening to my music sitting out on their deck as the warm air gradually returns. And your darling granddaughter, I'm glad she has got herself a good name, I reckon. It's done well by me anyway.... :)

  • @oldlostjohn Mar 2022

Ah, yes, of course. I'm a reader of Acoustic Guitar Magazine and I have that issue. TPR was more than mentioned, and that song was featured with chords and lyrics. Send him my best wishes concerning his health condition and further musical adventures.

  • @oldlostjohn Mar 2022

Thanks for your comments too. This may surprise you, but Tom Prasado-Rao is not an entirely unfamiliar name to me. Back in the days long before streaming (when internet was in its infancy) I subscribed to American folk music magazine Dirty Linen, which opened up a whole new world to me of music that we never heard of over here in Sweden. There used to be a CD sampler along with the magazine and Prasada-Rao had one song on one of them.

It'll be great to see you in Peter's group if you give it a try. I used his February prompt to prompt one of the songs I wrote in February and then used for FAWM, but my own approach is to write new things for his group (so I'll write a new song for March) - both because that's the intended spirit of the thing, and also because my goal is to write new song.

  • @scubed  Mar 2022

Hi, Paul. Just saw your post on the “Sticking Around” thread and decided to stop by. When were you in Moab? I’ve been twice - 2017 and 2019 - and was disappointed that COVID cancelled camp in 2020 and 2021. Hoping to be there again this October.

  • @sheslin  Feb 2022

Ah oh gosh I am sorry about your thumb! Sure send me the chords. Thanks!!

  • @sheslin  Feb 2022

Oh great Paul! I would love the guitar track. I don't think I could play it as beautifully as you did!

  • @sheslin  Feb 2022

Thanks so much for you comment on "Our Song". My goal for that ending chord on the verses was to create a little bit of tension just for listener engagement really so I think it worked. I also did not do it on the final verse. I very much appreciate your careful listening and feedback :D !

  • @bethdesombre  Feb 2022

. . . and I went to the same grammar/high school as Lucy Kaplansky (though she was four years ahead of me). It's a tiny folk world! Yes. I'm in the Boston area. Looking forward to listening to more of your stuff.

  • @musicsongwriter Feb 2022

Thank you so much Paul for your beautiful comment on my collaboration with Kristi and Sharon on "In the silence". It was so wonderful to read what you thought about our song.

  • @musicsongwriter Feb 2022

You are very welcome, Paul. I love your collaboration with Kristi. It's a wonderful song, a pleasure to listen to.

  • @richaaaay  Feb 2022

Just replied to your email. Nice lyrics.

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 2022

I would love that!!! Thank you!!!

  • @richaaaay  Feb 2022

Hey Paul, thanks for the comment. Kristi had mentioned someone was also interested in putting music to her words. Sorry I boxed you out. I'm curious what you would have done musically. You heard my interpretation. I doubt Kristi heard it as a bluesy song. I'll find out soon I imagine. I assume you would have taken it in a different direction.

  • @andygetch  Feb 2022

Hi Paul, it's good to see you back here and always good to see a fellow Summersongs alumnus!

  • @majordanby  Feb 2022

Not heard before, but will take a look/listen.

    Hi Paul,

Things About You or Time and Time Again (https://fawm.org/songs/131407/) are both unclaimed.

  • @kristi  Feb 2022

Hi Paul, I just sent you an email.

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 2022

Dear Paul, I am going to listen to your music and hope we can collab on something as I love collaborating with people! The song lyric you noted, however, was spoken for by someone as soon as I posted it! If you like I could send you a lyric before I post it or suggest another one. Liz

  • @richaaaay  Feb 2022

That’s a sweet arsenal. I share your passion, frugalness and priorities. Although I have no grandchildren yet…Hope to someday!

  • @richaaaay  Feb 2022

Interesting to hear about the monks from Tibet and the mandala.

Thanks for the note. Rest assured, I am no more talented than you. Your songs are great!

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

Paul, Thanks for listening to My Man of Few Words. I agree that sheslin's treatment of it is just lovely. Thank you!

  • @sheslin  Feb 2022

It is indeed! We lived in Crofton for about 5 years. I look forward to checking out the rest of your songs. Let me know if you do any gigs out this way!

  • @dee Feb 2022

Hi thanks for stopping by and reading If the Truth Hurts, Should we Lie. Appreciate it.

  • @andromedaann Feb 2022

Hey! Thanks for letting me know what you think of my tree song, it means a lot

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

Hi, Paul, I'm very flattered that you like The Love We Never Had. As it turns out, this lyric was picked up and so it isn't available any more. But I would love to work with you on something else. My email is on this site, so please feel free to contact me there, too. I will post this on your page, as well as here, so you'll be sure to see it--and don't start work in vain!

Great! I really enjoyed them both and it was great when they sang together.

  • @gm7  Feb 2022

Thx for the kind words...yes the chorus could be longer for more emphasis ..good point.

  • @cindyrella  Feb 2022

Thanks for your nice comments. Read your bio. I just saw James Taylor and Jackson Browne in concert in December. It was awesome!

  • @richaaaay  Feb 2022

    yup yup! (Baltimore county)

  • @aeye Feb 2022

Sure thing. Had to make sure to listen to a fellow Marylander :)

  • @kristi  Feb 2022

Hi Paul! If you look under my name on my profile page, you'll see a little envelope next to the Facebook box. That's my email. I think FAWM puts it there to avoid bots picking emails up! See if it works for you. If not, I'll figure out something else. Let me know when you send it & I'll check it. Looking forward to listening to what you've got!

  • @juoppis  Feb 2022

Hi Paul, thanks for your comment!

How should I say...I think the eraser is a tool for a reason :D there's some clumsiness that I'd definitely edit and make it a bit more thought-of especially in the verses. The chorus melody is actually quite good but I think that honing the song would make it definitely better. Not to mention the fact that the lyrics could use some perking up with bit more interesting word choices.

But all in all the basic song is actually quite good!

All in all, it looks to be a really good process to get a song motif that you can then develop into a better one.

  • @kristi  Feb 2022

Hi Paul! Thanks for your kind comments on my lyric, "No, no". I went to your Soundcloud (the little cloud up top didn't work, btw...but the link in your posted song did!). Anyway, you have a good collection of songs! I enjoyed listening to the duets...guitar...saxophone...very cool. I'd be happy for you to give the music a go. No worries about time. And I understand the need to mesh lyric to music. See what you come up with!
