Influences: Desperately need some new ones, I haven’t been obsessed with an album in a while. The latest song I was weirdly obsessed with was “Is It Like Today” by World Party which bubbled up from the depths of my memory and was very difficult to find based on the part I could remember.
"the perfect is the enemy of the good"
This is my ninth year doing this thing. Crazy!

No particular projects or themes in mind for this year’s FAWM! I’ve acquired several new instruments since last February so I suppose at the very least, those will be in rotation.

Owl…You are the best!!! Thanks for listening!
Hi Owl, I have so enjoyed your music this FAWM. Terrific work! I was inspired by your song Strike Me Down to try to experiment with the tuning you used in that song. I posted a song with Serene called Angel based on that tuning. I had a blast messing around in that odd tuning…So thank you for posting about it.
Just to say, I've hugely enjoyed listening to your stuff this year, it's been a real treat! I realise I am probably joining the back of a very long queue, but if you'd be up for a collab next time around do let me know :)
Hey thanks so much for the love this year. Congrats on finishing! May the FAWM be with you ALWAYS
I just realised that I commented on sea fog and you are owl - and you pop up quite often, there's clearly a fawm community connection, every time you pop up you're singing something great - well done
That weird piano sound is a vst called Dirty Tape. I've been using it quite a lot recently. I got it for free on a deal but I don't think it's worth paying much for.
BTW, I aimed to have a look at that song today but accidentally stayed up until 4am drinking for a friend's birthday, so kind of washed out today. I'm on leave this week though, so I'll pull my finger out!
Indeed! And a bounder too! :D Thanks for listening & commenting.
Thanks for the fine comments! Happy you like them,
Thank you for your comment on Stammheim is Everywhere.
Thanks for your kind comments on Shangri-La :)
And it is posted! :)
Ahhh happy you found me here. I seriously LOVE the song "Is It Like Today". I listened to that album on repeat in middle school, strangely enough. So much nostalgia.
Yay, I get to hear that song again!!! Thank you. Was it 2014? Do you recall the year?
Oh thank you! Sparrowpit is a town on the drive from here to Manchester (where the majority of out of town gigs I go to is). There's a big hilly hairpin turn that I basically think "well, this is where I'll die" every time... not sure if this will work -

Obviously looks fine and lovely on a sunny day, but in the pitch black with rain I always assume a juggernaut will plow into me...
Wow, thank you so much for your listen and your recommendation! XX
That "bee sound" is a tape loop by @zecoop, he has a thread about it.
Deserved a double comment. At first i wondered whether that was legal ;-) . My first ever. maybe next year i'll build to a triple comment ;-)
No we’re typically excited when someone actually knows our job exists whether good or bad…and the dental coverage is excellent!
thanks so much for your feedback on my Ballad!
Of course you were (facepalm). Not sure how I didn't pick up on that, as I love Love! My other half saw Arthur Lee live doing Forever Changes from start to finish. I kind of hate her a bit for that!
Of course I had to stop by the page of one of my favorite FAWMers and listen after being away for... how many years have I been away, two or three? Anyway, your music was among the first to really make me get bitten by the FAWM bug during my first year. I still remember the particular song too. I think the year was 2014 or 2015, and the song was about two people finding each other in an unlikely way and a metaphor of two underwater sea creatures finding each other was used. At least I think that's what it was. It had a simple but very lovely synth melody that repeated throughout the song. Does it ring a bell?
So I checked on two other machines with different browsers today and they all worked, even without me logging in, so I'm sorry but I don't know what else to suggest, beyond downloading and listening that way, which I appreciate is a faf. What browser are you using? I can see if there are any listed issues with my server provider ... j$
It’s just a DI’ed acoustic guitar actually. There was a super sale on XLN RC20 Retro Colour plug-in last weekend, been curious about it for a long time after seeing people using in YT mixing videos and seeing it mentioned in some articles.. Tried to emulate a Z Vex Instant Lo-Fi Junky pedal, that’s also on my want to get list, if I ever find a good used deal on it. The distorted part is just a copy of the track with a amp sim stock plugin from Ableton.
Thanks for being nice about Step Out of Time yesterday - yes, Doctor Who is right! As you identify it is a bit of a vague conceit, but then vagueness is my armour, my sword, my ... knight riding animal...
Don't tell Jed you compared me to Magnetic Fields. He'll never listen to me again!
Yo, thanks for your comments. The tuning on Nampa is F-C-D-G-C-G with a capo on the 5th. It's basically good for playing F, C and G in an open strummy way and not much else. Sorry I've been so crap listening to songs so far. I will come back here I promise!
Ah that'll be it. Regardless - a pleasure to meet you.
Well, should you want to bypass the player, You can hear them in their original folder - https://www.johnnycashpoint.com/fawm22/ ? j$
As far as I know, not my server as no-one else has mentioned it. But thanks for the heads-up! j$
Hello! Thank you for the comment on Judy - hugely appreciated :)
Glad you liked my "Witch" - Yes, I only needed a fiddle to get the authentic Steeleye Span feel. I tried to learn to play one years ago, but it defeated me despite classes and a keenness to learn. :-(
Thanks, re my lyric :-)
Just wanted to say that while I was at work yesterday, I had "You took me to the International Speedway so we could watch the cars go by" stuck in my head. It's a really great song!
Hey, thanks for listening to "Snow, Zombies, And Old Apartments" and yes, it is one of the official Fender x Kyser capos. I got it a few weeks ago. I thought it would look cool with the polar white telecaster
Just wanted to stop by and say hi, and also to join in the World Party love! :)
Hey thanks for stopping by my songs. Totally love your world party story. Used to live down the road from Karl growing up. Top bloke!
Thanks so much for the lovely comment! It’s great to see you back :)
Thank you, for I took that as a compliment!
Hi Owl,
Thanks for your comment on "It's Love, It's Always Love". Loss and grief are definitely hard, but exploring that feeling really helped me learn a lot about myself and why it hurt so much. I appreciate you listening!
Thanks so much!
I used the "custom shop" kit on that song, one of the two new ones I got in the sales last year. It's quite an interesting one, think it'll crop up again this month!
Hey there! Glad to see you’re back. -ru
It's the fantastic hoot bird! Have an awesome FAWM 2022. :D
Hello, hi. I look forward to hearing your magic this year! :)
so much talent in one tiny little owl.
I haven't gotten around to all of their stuff as far as the new ones but I liked Certainty a lot, along with Sparrow and Little Things! Certainty in particular really resonated with me emotionally when it came out and also hits that lo-fi goodness I love in old stuff from the Mountain Goats. I like to throw that one into my sets sometimes as a nice little cover to do : )
Hey there, happy 2022 pre fawm wishes to you. can't wait to hear what you got going on this year. Would also be awesome to collab maybe.
hi owl, holder of the title "gregthehero's first ever duet partner" since 2015. happy fawming!
Yessss, of course I would love to collab again!! Keep me in mind please! (As I may or may not already have an idea I'd love to work on with you.... )
Welcome back Owl! Can't wait to hear what you bring!
HEYO! Excited for lots of new Owl tunes
Hey there, looking forward to more of your fab music!
Hi from Milwaukee! Looking forward to hearing how the Big Thief influence might come out! I've been into their newest stuff lately : )
- Jorge
Can't wait to hear your creations!!!
Hi @owl, I wanted to say thanks for the nice comments on my Spintunes efforts on the Jerkatorium podcast. I've not yet cracked what makes a good ST song, and it was nice to get some positive feedback!
Looking forward to your FAWM22 output - your CharlesECheese song was one of my favourites last year!
*waves frantically* hey hi! It's FAWM time! Looking forward to following your FAWM exploits as always!
Any toy with a name like 'starstream' is going to leave me insanely jealous!! Excited to see some owl fawm tunes :)
Looking forward to some more top songs!
Owlsongs make me giddy,
Owlsongs make me blue.
Hope to hear some new Owltunes in 2022!
Welcome back, my wonderfully talented friend!! Yay FAWM!!
