Influences: Old leather bound books, seasoned wood, small birds, whispering winds and speaking trees, wounded hearts and weathered souls...
Tomas here. Once a woodsman and a horse-keeper, I now live in the city of Malmo, Sweden, writing and recording my dusky americana/blues(/folk.
Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud etc etc if you want to hear more of my music.

Howdy, pardner! Only way to get through the Mojave desert is attacking on the "j". Thank you for venturing out in that piece of land!
50/90. Wow! Wrong time of the year it feels like though with summer, sun, lakes and lazy days. Hmmm...
Interesting...I'll tell Tom (aka TPR) that he's known in Sweden. He got a lot of attention in 2020 for writing a song, "$20 Bill (for George Floyd);" LOTS of folk music artists covered it...very touching song regarding the tragic killing. He was even mentioned in Acoustic Guitar magazine for that song. Tom has written in quite a variety of styles over the years but many of his recent songs are spare lyrically and musically, with great depth of feeling. A truly fine person, too. I'm honored to have performed a few songs -- his and mine -- with him over the years in modest settings. I'm glad you know of him and suspect you would enjoy more of his music.
Thanks so much for your kind comments on To Keep You Safe, Tomas. I think my admiration for YOUR effective, economic lyrics helped prompt this effort. My lyrics tend to be more wordy and seldom rely on my voice to be be a significant player, leaning toward the "talking with a hint of melody" approach....so I appreciate the encouragement on that front, too. Anyway, I'm hoping to experiment more with a spare-lyrics approach (as a mentor/friend of mine has endorsed). Btw, I recommend you check out Tom Prasada-Rao's music (You Tube or wherever); great guy, fine musician, adept guitarist in his earlier songs (until a recent medical challenge). I think you would like him.
Love love love it!
So chuffed that one of my fave FAWM artists is working on it!
Before both is cool. I copied the text from the lyric writing app I use on my iPad. Thanks so much for your taking a try at it! I’m
Here’s an article that talks about three line prechorus
https://americansongwriter.com/lyrically-speaking-great-expectations/
The prechorus word is to indicate the next lines are the prechorus. And there are only 3 lines.
Three line pre chorus is a technique that Pat Pattison teaches as a way to build the release in the chorus. He gives examples of this in pop music. I forget most of his examples but I do recall he played a few pop rock hits from the Cars that do just that in their prechorus sections.
It’s become a crutch of mine and I probably should vary my song form habits more!
Good question. The post chorus stands on its own. No prechorus. A couple of repeats of the post chorus perhaps. Does that make sense?
Tomas, fancy putting OLJ ruggedness to this 6/8 lyric by me as a collab?
Verse
I can’t live here anymore
In three days they change out the lock on the door.
9 years I’ve lived in this room on my own.
4 years with a dog. 5 all alone.
Security deposit was steep way back when
If it’s not spotless I lose it and then
have nothing for room and board at the inn
Jesus and Mary. A Nomad. Bedouin
Pre Chorus
Grab a few boxes from the alley below.
Hope to find some that aren’t wet from the snow.
I’m not in the mood for this, how low can I go?
Chorus
So I sweep and vacuum and pack
Take out the trash to the bin at the back
Pull my dresser away from the wall
There’s that button not lost after all!
Verse
Just one choice, just one big mistake
How many kicks to the groin does it take?
To drive a man down where he’s not been before
To turn into a wall, what once was a door?
Chorus
So I sweep and vacuum and pack
Take out the trash to the bin at the back
Pull my dresser away from the wall
There’s that button. Not lost after all!
Bridge
Locked the last box in the trunk of the car
Here’s Mrs. Chen, something blue in her hand.
“For good luck. Good luck near and afar.
A Bachelor’s Button from Chen’s Flower Stand.”
Post Chorus
I swept and I vacuumed and spot shined the place.
Deposit in pocket and smile on my face.
Bachelor’s button pinned to my lapel,
On to my next place, my next place to dwell.
Thank you for the kind comments mate, means a lot coming from your good self :)
Thanks again for your comments....this time on "Given Time." That was really a nice moment for me when my co-writer imagined those lyrics from my guitar track. I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks so much for your comments on "Before It Too Must Go." I like the scenes, atmosphere, and images in your songs so I especially appreciate your commenting on those aspects of my song. Kindred souls, it seems.
I like it very much and are immensely grateful for having it.
I am also grateful for taking part of your art.
:)
You two are being too Swedish with me!
BTW, my grandfather's family came from Ask, just north of Eslöv. Skåne is so beautiful. I have a 3rd cousin in Bjuv.
And listening to your stuff on your website. Nice!
Damn! I thought I checked the grammar for those nouns! I checked with another Swede who didn't correct me. Okay, I'm going to fix that!
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Fire Inside'!
It is a Pete Back, English luthier who once built a guitar for Eric Clapton. I like it a lot. :)
Old Lost John! I'm such a big fan of yours. Thank you very much for taking a listen to "Love thru a Broken Heart" From one wounded heart and worn out Soul to another, I thank you and so glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks so much about "A Seaside Chat." I'm very comfortable on guitar but a late-in-life, nervous singer, so I'm always especially pleased with any encouragement about my vocals.
I think I'm here? Looking forward as always to new music from you, Tomas.
Looking forward to hearing you this year!
Howdy! See you have taken up the banjo. Just minutes left now!
hi tomas. hope you’re here this year. I always look forward to your music
I am looking forward to another set of instant classics from you in 22! Listening to you guitar and voice is like revisiting a favorite photo album from my grandparents’ hone with childhood photos of my dad and uncles and grandparents
Hej Tomas.
Hoppas få höra vackra tongångar från dig i år igen. Vi hörs. <3
Happy FAWMing, John!
