Artist Bio

Back for my 17th FAWM! Pianist, singer-songwriter, collaborator, experimenter. She/her.

More bio, 2022 thoughts coming soon.

Just before COVID hit, Nancy Rost and Eric Agner released their first record, Violet Cusp. Rost, a singer-pianist based in Madison, WI and Agner, a singer and bassist in Washington, D.C. have been co-writing long distance since 2008. Their songs, expansive and energetic, span the genre gamut.

  • @marthie Mar 2022

    Thank you for listening

  • @highmountain Mar 2022

Howdy, thanks for unzonging In the Moon and with such kind words! Of course the lyrics can make some leaps on the moon. Low gravity there!

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 2022

    Dear Nancy,
Thank you so much for helping me out with that morph and your great music! I really appreciate it! I hope to listen to more of your music over the next few weeks. I also hope we might be able to do some live collabs in the future!

  • @srcoops  Mar 2022

Thanks for your nice comment on Coffee Gang. Hope to work with you again next year.

  • @sarahk Feb 2022

Nancy, thank you so much for your kind comments on Let It Begin In Me. Really appreciate it!

  • @matthew62  Feb 2022

Thanks for the kind comments regarding Sally Schulamandie. Truly appreciated. It was a lot of fun creating, and even more, fun watching the kids hopping around while listening. Working on the slightly revised version was fun too, and I'm looking forward to seeing my granddaughter's reaction when she hears it.

  • @gindark  Feb 2022

Thank you for your words on "She's a Simple Woman"! Is it over already? Again I have made an EP. But really glad to make some new contacts. See you next year?

  • @srcoops  Feb 2022

A lot funnier than when I fell asleep. Great job. I laughed a lot. You hit this one on the head! Nice to sneak in a collab with you before the doors closed.

  • @n24  Feb 2022

Thank you for the lovely comment! Gospel inspired pop is a huge compliment!

  • @kadmad202  Feb 2022

    Thanks for the beat-box love!

  • @bootsylavox Feb 2022

Thanks, @nancyrost, for your kind words about the Tigre song. Your encouragement made my day. :-)

  • @elesimo  Feb 2022

Ahhh, that makes sense, thanks for clarifying!

It would be interesting is they flew from California (or Canada) to Rio and then back, because it would be CA-Rio-CA! :-P

  • @elainedimasi  Feb 2022

Hi Nancy, re: Auntie Sin, I felt that way too! While not trying to negate everything like rhyme, repetition, chord, purpose; but just postpone them or twist away from them or make a different decision about them; it guarantees they reappear in different forms. It is music, after all.

  • @phlecksy Feb 2022

@nancyrost thanks for your kind comments - to answer your question, no, Rozeta is a drum-pattern program (made by the same guy who designed the drum-sound program, Bram Bos, a hero/genius of the iOS music world). As for not listening to the whole thing, no problem! I wouldn't expect anyone not closely related to me to sit through such a long and undynamic thing. I appreciate your listening to some of it. You belong to an extremely exclusive group now :-)

  • @mikeb  Feb 2022

Thanks for the listen and comment on my collab with Tammy, 'We Don't Have a Clue'.

  • @dasbinky  Feb 2022

End of the Innocence is also my favorite Eagles adjacent song. :)

  • @elesimo  Feb 2022

Nancy, thank you so much for your comment on my song "The fortuneteller"! You have always encouraged when I sing, over the years, and it made me take singing lessons and push myself out of my comfort zone. Thank you so much!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 2022

I will make sure we find ourselves in such a vicinity someday. And the quarter is on me… I remember playing my nephew when he was about 13 - he was awed by his aunt. That may have been the last time I played - close to 20 years ago but hearing your song I felt it coming back!

  • @stephenwordsmith  Feb 2022

Yay, thank you. I look forward to seeing where you take it.

  • @burrsettles  Feb 2022

hey! overdue explanation, but: IYKYK = "if you know you know" (re: your question on "steal this song" from, like, 2 weeks ago...)

EDIT: you're right! this was meant for @cts ^^. that's what happens when you're behind on listening/commenting/replying and lose track of which open browser tab you're posting on... ;)

  • @jacobwakeup Feb 2022

Your vocal harmonies were wonderful. They add so much to the song. Thank you so much for contributing in this way. The tag at the end during the fade out was a really nice touch.

What's the FAWM protocol here? Do I add a new song and tag you as a collaborator? Update the link in the original song post? This new mix must be shared!

  • @jacobwakeup Feb 2022

Thanks for listening to my song "Singing helps." You're the first to offer harmonies/collab and I'd be happy to share the stems or garageband file with you!

  • @miga  Feb 2022

thanks for your kind comment on "all will be well" and I hope you actually enjoyed the nap you were considering!

  • @analogj Feb 2022

I'm glad you liked my Gentle Rhythm song. I'm working on changing the standard image of the kazoo to the point that it's "mainstream". ;-)

Think of it as another reed instrument, and it can sound like a sax.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2022

I hope it's usable!!! :) Glad it got there in decent time.

  • @guatecoop  Feb 2022

I put up a better mix.....

  • @guatecoop  Feb 2022

Sssshhhhh……I got the tape and am going to try to get it in first…..sounds good! I’m going to do drums. Wish me luck!

  • @gilhari  Feb 2022

Thank you for the sweetly written review. I enjoyed listening to your submissions this year and your album with @standup really wonderfully composed pieces, I look forward to hearing more.

  • @artie  Feb 2022

@nancyrost well when ya say it like that it does! haha Glad you enjoyed the party. ;)

  • @skibum1066  Feb 2022

Nancy, Thank you for your kind words about my song "Johnstown, Johnstown". Much appreciated

  • @cindyrella  Feb 2022

    Thanks for you nice comment!

  • @srcoops  Feb 2022

Thanks for the nice comments on Big Red Apple. This is about Coolparidiso's town in Australia. He has not seen it or perhaps doesn't like it. Either way it sounds like an interesting little place.

  • @mikedebenham  Feb 2022

Cheers, Nancy. For the percussion, I added some overdrive to a fairly vanilla kick drum and a little synth squelch, then fed them through a couple of amp sims for greater beefiness.

  • @jessicagraae  Feb 2022

Thanks for your kind words on my Daddy I'm in love song and vocals!

  • @helenseviltwin  Feb 2022

    It's a fun sound!

  • @sarahk Feb 2022

Hi, Nancy! Thanks for your comment on Lip Service!

  • @jorgevallentine Feb 2022

    Hi Nancy!
Thanks for your comment on "It's Love, It's Always Love". I live for those cathartic and dramatic moments in music, so I try to use them whenever they feel right in my own songs. Some songs have me outright screaming in a specific moment when I play them live and those are times I feel really alive. I hope it shows other people that it's ok to let things out too. I appreciate you taking the time to listen!

  • @mikedebenham  Feb 2022

'2022: thoughts coming soon' could be a t-shirt. Have a wonderful FAWM, Nancy.

  • @standup  Feb 2022

Hi Nancy, thanks for listening to my Day 1 effort. The basement is indeed on that axis of digging down into the stuff.

  • @bobjestes  Feb 2022

Soooo...what if someone put me on their watch list but I'm thinking it might be a bot or spammer?

  • @auditasum  Jan 2022

Noooo. Well at least it had a decently wrapped up ending

  • @slusk Jan 2022

Happy to see someone mentioning Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares. Their ”Kalimankou Denko” is the closest you get to angels singing. My absolute favourite choir song ever. Saw them live in Stockholm late 80ies or early 90ies. Fantastic experience.

  • @autoclamp  Jan 2022

You and Crossman made my week. Hope you're well!

  • @jorgevallentine Jan 2022

    Hi from Milwaukee!

  • @tabitha Jan 2022

Hi Nancy, thanks for reaching out on my forum post. I'd love to interview you. If it's alright, I'll flick you an email either later tonight or tomorrow with more details so we can arrange a time. Happy FAWM

  • @jonmeta  Jan 2022

    Collab? Heck, yeah.

  • @writeandwrong  Jan 2022

Happiest of FAWMS to you this year! Hope you are well and looking forward to hearing your new pieces! :)

  • @jonmeta  Jan 2022

Great to see you back once again, Nancy! I look forward to all your new songs. The algorithm knew which icon suits you!

My only regret is that I’m regularly reminded when I see you that my lovely Portastudio 144 was lost in a fire 10 years ago and <teary voice> I can’t join the 4-track challenge.

  • @crisp1  Jan 2022

Cool that you saw Police on the same "debut" tour as I did. I really couldn't afford to go to concerts too much in my youth, so that first one has always stayed with me! Have a great FAWM!

  • @ericdistad  Jan 2022

Good to see you back once again Nancy! Have a great FAWM!

  • @hbusse  Jan 2022

    Hey Nancy, happy FAWM!

  • @rosedeschamps  Jan 2022

Thinking about how you're one of the few FAWMers I got to meet in real life makes me smile. We should collab this year, it's been a while!

  • @swampjaw  Jan 2022

    Lo lo lo!
Good to see you, really looking forward to this year.

  • @barbara  Jan 2022

Hi Nancy, I feel the same. Happy FAWMing to you!

  • @fearlessflight2014  Jan 2022

Looking forward to FAWMing with you again! Yay!

  • @theresaj Jan 2022

Hi Nancy! Good luck to you - I’ll be listening and enjoying the music!

  • @dasbinky  Jan 2022

I had a dream that you evaporated into a sound. Floating on the air, across cities and plains, worming your way into the aural sphere of anyone who could listen. For an age, you moved from ear to ear, bringing your essence to the world. And when you were done, an organ played an Fmaj7add11, and with a snap of Glorious fingers, you ascended to whatever comes next.

  • @cts  Jan 2022

Opportunist here (yes, I'm starting early). Happy FAWMing to you. Yayy!

  • @wrenarcher  Jan 2022

    Hey Nancy! *wave wave wave*

    Likewise! Happy fawming.

  • @kadmad202  Jan 2022

Yes, it will be nice when we’re able to be in a house together again—but, apparently, not Theresa’s! Though, road trip…️

  • @kadmad202  Jan 2022

Hi Nancy! Good to see you again! Here’s to lots of fun and inspiration this year!

  • @robynmackenzie  Jan 2022

    Likewise! Happy FAWMing! :D

  • @philhenry  Jan 2022

    Happy FAWM, Nancy!

  • @stephenwordsmith  Jan 2022

Hi, Nancy. That would be amazing. I'm still tickled by the fact that FAWM brought me a personal connection to the American radio station that happened to bear my surname (and whose logo I had up on my wall throughout my teenage years for the sheer novelty value).

  • @sorby69  Jan 2022

Thanks @nancyrost! Great to meet you.

  • @johncrossman  Jan 2022

    Plastic progression.

  • @elainedimasi  Jan 2022

Looking forward to everything this year!

Good to see you, Sis. Thanks for the help with the reviews.
