Artist Bio

Influences:   This is a tough one. My oldest and dearest influence is probably Randy Newman but I’m a big fan of Rex Orange County, Dr Dog, Vampire Weekend and Vulfpeck to name a few others.

Just writing and playing casually. I’ve enjoyed song-writing for a number of years but haven’t done much recently so using FAWM as an opportunity to have some fun and get back into it!

But the rules may vary slightly to considerably in the one I'm currently plotting.... take a look/listen. and please consider.

  • @jayjay  Mar 2022

    Thank you for lovely comments

  • @nadine Mar 2022

Thanks a lot for your profile visit and comment, Nate!
Yeah, I sort of turned into a multi-genre songwriter / producer after I started not giving a damn about fitting in. My weakness is singing and instrumental playing, so I team up with plenty of people after FAWM to rerecord this stuff in a better quality and dive deep into production. You won't hear my voice on the final productions, maybe just a bit of basic piano playing or drum programming.
It took me years to write something which is not 4/4. A ballad in 6/8 is a good way to start, but I stuck... and stuck... until my Gordian knot has been solved this FAWM (not kidding) and I got real mad with odd-time signatures ("At your command" is 19/4). Don't count, just feel. Seems like we all have these impendiments to overcome on our musical growth!

So happy to have found you through #tit4tat.
Will be listening to more of your songs this month for sure.

  • @daveyboy103  Feb 2022

Thanks Nate, Susan dd a greta job adding words to that tune.

  • @coolparadiso  Feb 2022

Thx for your comments. Well spotted on the line. The whole song was pretty much retro fitted around that line when it came to me.

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

Nate, Thanks for listening and commenting on both versions of Somethin' Better. I am fascinated by how different musical treatments and vocals can change the listening experience. I like them both and I'm glad you did, too.

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Thanks a lot for your comment on "Fit right in". Your words are encouraging and I feel like it's gonna be a good song when finished.

  • @paulharrison  Feb 2022

Thanks so much for your comments on Somethin Better! I'm glad you enjoyed it, Nate.

  • @katestantonsings  Feb 2022

You can harmonize really well. It is very pleasant to your listener's ear.

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

Nate, Thanks for your comments on Hit Man! I'm really glad you liked it. You probably didn't see my earlier response because I posted my comment ON MY OWN PAGE! Rookie mistake! Right out there for everyone to see! :)

    @greengrassgirl 2 weeks
@n24 You picked out my favorite part...Minus one. Thanks!

  • @sheslin  Feb 2022

Oh fantastic! Doing collabs is the best part of FAWM. OK I am going to take a run at it and will be in touch if I need to change anything lyrically. Thanks!!

  • @paulharrison  Feb 2022

Hii Nate. Thanks so much for your kind comments on Time and Time Again. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • @seppo Feb 2022

    Thanks a lot.
For me it's super hard to write of sing anything cause I don't do neither, but I just decided to give it a go and don't care how that sounds cause in top of that, foreign language pronuncin is there to give more gray hair.
But luckily I'm gray anyway so I don don't mind:)

  • @richaaaay  Feb 2022

Hey Nate, I’m no pro at recording but my chops have improved over the past year. I’d be happy to give you my two cents; however, there is someone you know very well who is way more experienced at recording and production than me.

  • @serene123  Feb 2022

    Haha it's totally fine :)

  • @serene123  Feb 2022

Heyy.. you may be getting me confused with Kate!! Lol

  • @serene123  Feb 2022

    Heard not bear... Darn phone!

  • @serene123  Feb 2022

Thank you so much for your comment on as you are Nate! And great to be connected on SoundCloud.. I bear your song Lily on Callum's radio show and I loved it! Look forward to listening to more of your music

  • @katestantonsings  Feb 2022

I just checked out Tennis! Pretty excited to find them. Loving their style, tempo changes and percussion. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

So glad you liked the duet on In Love All Alone! Georgie and Gwyn seemed to know exactly what I had in mind, and they delivered beautifully. Thank you for your enthusiastic comments.

  • @davidtaro  Feb 2022

Thanks for the lovely Hit Man comment, Nate! Do you know, I didn’t realise the bridge was in a different signature until I tried to record the thing (natural musician that I am!). Kind of fun when you do these things by accident ;)

  • @sbs2018  Feb 2022

Thank you for your generous comments.. Back in the Beatles heyday you didn't mention Elvis - lol!

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

Nate, Thank you for your compliments on Friendship Hurts (If You Do It Right.) I really wanted a good "friendship" song, and I'm very pleased with Colleen's interpretation of my lyrics. She is a treasure. You're right about the "tenderly executed" vocals. That's one of her specialties.

  • @brisk Feb 2022

Thanks for being nice about my songs! Its Spitfire LABS mandolin in the chorus of Let the World Burn Down, which I really like to splash about when I can. I've only listened to a couple of yours, and if I can get a bit of mutual appreciation in here, I thought they were marvelous. There's a directness to them that's really pleasing, and I don't mean they are obvious... I mean a kind of emotional honesty maybe? I don't know, I'm rambling. Nice to meet you anyway! I hope you are enjoying this community - its one of my favourite corners of the internet.

  • @shallowcarrot Feb 2022

Thanks for your kind and insightful comments on my song. They're really appreciated! And I'd love to hear more from you :)

  • @sbs2018  Feb 2022

Love it when that happens - like when somebody says you remind them of somebody but you’ve never heard of them! And then you have to check them out. Thanks so much

  • @nahlej381  Feb 2022

Is yours a twin peaks reference too!? Did we just become best friends?

  • @cabinmonster  Feb 2022

@n24 hey, thanks for the Eddie Vedder recommendation. I'm just listening to it now and already liking it a lot. Great quality sounds. Thinking I must invest in a better quality uke for myself!

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

@n24 Thanks for your kind comments on My American Hero. I'm glad you thought it felt authentic. Quite a compliment!

  • @wacha  Feb 2022

Thank you for your kind words on "Time for Talk", I used a glitch plug in and varied the amount it was being used in certain spots for emphasis to get that stuttering effect.

  • @davidtaro  Feb 2022

Thanks for the Judy comment, Nate! I think I’ve now used up all my falsetto for February :D

  • @gwyn1234  Feb 2022

Many, many thanks for the listen and your kind and encouraging words...

  • @katestantonsings  Feb 2022

Thank you for your kind comment about my lyrics on ‘House Guest’! Clarinet happenstance…I bet you could rock one! They sound so warm and mellow.

  • @davidtaro  Feb 2022

Hey man. You should check if there's already a 'word limit challenge' in the Forum Challenges area. If not, I totally think people would do it if you suggested it. Well I'd give it a go anyway :)

  • @wacha  Feb 2022

Thank you very much, your work for National Ukulele Day was wonderful!

  • @davidtaro  Feb 2022

Nate! Welcome to FAWM. You’re going to crush it. Have an awesome & creative February :)
