Artist Bio

Influences:   Indigo Girls, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, ABBA.

Import-Welsh. Trying to rediscover the joy of writing songs, rather than writing essays about research methodology. Might be too stressed. I want to feel excited but I really don't think I'm feeling it this year.
ADHD & Autism are my pronouns :-) Let's see if I can concentrate long enough to finish just one song.

Hey! We had some issues with the file but its all fixed now... (agenda for change now available to listen). Cheers!

  • @joefahey  Mar 2022

Marie, thank you so much for your thoughtful comments on “I’ve Learned My Lesson (Again and Again)” and for relating to it as well, welcome to the club! I enjoyed listening to your cool songs too, sweet singing and acoustic guitars.

  • @nadine Mar 2022

I'm glad you enjoyed the "Disco Blues". Thanks for the comment. Yes, we will continue on that project, but an update won't happen that early. So rather on SoundCloud later the year.

  • @scubed  Mar 2022

Thanks very much for listening to and commenting on “Lily
Ann” and “When the Music Comes Along”!

  • @wrenarcher  Mar 2022

Thank you Marieke for taking some time to listen to my song, “The Eclipse”. Yeah, that one was pretty hard to do.

You mentioned the quiet of my vocals and how they add to the devastation of the subject matter. I tend to sing that way in general but for this one it was a little more intentional.

Thanks again for listening and commenting.

  • @oswlek Mar 2022

Thank you for stopping by and checking out Tiny Grass. It is really appreciated. :)

  • @bethdesombre  Mar 2022

Thank you SO much for your comments on If I Could Tell You. That was a hard song to write and it didn't get listened to much in February. Sorry -- but also grateful -- to have made you cry . . .

  • @sorby69  Mar 2022

Hey Marieke! Thanks for your nice words about "I see you", and yeah, I agree! Hope you had a good FAWM

  • @nancycunning  Feb 2022

Thanks so much for listening and responding to my songs and making me feel so welcome at FAWM. I'd love to write something together next year. (And yeah, I'm an awfully big fan of Band in a Box for building starter kit tracks for songs, though you did great work with the Casio loops...:))

  • @tunecat  Feb 2022

Thanks for checking out my skirmish song ‘no’ yeah I think there will be probably be music!!!

  • @melaniepegge Feb 2022

I like the idea of all the bricks singing as one entity. I only made a few small edits to Andy's lyrics and one was to switch some of the I's for we. Quite pleased you noticed this. Just felt like the castle might be a sort of communal being. Also maybe it expanded the potential for different meaning or metaphor to emerge(?) Thanks for your kind comments.

  • @musicsongwriter Feb 2022

You are very welcome, it was a pleasure.

  • @twyllodrus Feb 2022

Thanks for your comment on Vorhölle der sieben tropfenden Hunde. We were shocked as well when we first heard of all the buddhist hells.

  • @tukayandryan  Feb 2022

Thanks for your comments on Troubled Waters. Feel like a bit of optimism and hope for change is never a bad thing, no matter how bleak things may seem :)

  • @songsfromcarly Feb 2022

Thanks for the comment on history repeating, I've put a little melody to it now. Scary times

  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022

Hi, Marieka. Just saw your comment on A Lover and A Liar. I would LOVE for you to put your magic on this! I sent you an email.

  • @thedutchwidows  Feb 2022

Thanks for the wiki link - that's a sad and strange tale.

  • @thedutchwidows  Feb 2022

Wow. So did her sister put all 17 or so up there in one go, or was it 17 different occasions? I'm hoping the latter... It just gets weirder. Sound googling advice too - thank you!

  • @berty38  Feb 2022

Hey thanks for the comment on The Worst Feeling. That was my first skirmish, and it was definitely challenging to have anything done in the hour. To be fair, I took an hour and 15 minutes.

  • @hev  Feb 2022

Hey! Thanks for commenting on Attention - you’re the very first, and so kind too! I’m a bit late getting in the FAWM game this month (my ASD family life is sometimes hard to plan for) but your lovely welcome is really encouraging.

  • @timfatchen  Feb 2022

    #wormcore short answers (there's an email coming). 1) Yes. 2) No. 3) None. 4) You're squirming already.

  • @timfatchen  Feb 2022

Keep on! Write! We've all said it! [Ref. your forum note: Sherrycanary's https://fawm.org/songs/132639/ , the current repeated lines are "I will write a song for FAWM", and the converted (deFAWMED) lyric is likely to be a repeated "I will write a song today" or "I will write a song tonight". Doesn't stop you using it! because I'm sure the line has been used and used and used! But i thought I'd better wave it.]

  • @aniya Feb 2022

Hi! Thank you for your kind comment on Lipstick and Facemask Love! :)

  • @hbusse  Feb 2022

Thanks for the oh-so-generous comment on Whisper!

  • @davidtaro  Feb 2022

Hi Marie, thank you for the lovely comment on Hit Man! We now just need to write the rest of Hit Man, The Musical :D

  • @nancycunning  Feb 2022

I love what you said about ADHD and Autism being your pronouns. One of the things I love about songwriting is that I can start something and then turn it over to the shoemaker's elves to take the next pass. I'm always up for elving, if you have something started that you'd like someone else to write a next draft for, or if you want a draft of a full lyric, or just a homeless waif of a chorus or verse to feed. Let me know.

  • @celineellis  Feb 2022

Very much open tuning no capo in sight for the new track 'between the sea and the sky' - trying to sing in E again after folks were saying that key suited me on 'see you in the storm'. it still feels 'too high' but I will try at least one more up there and keep working at it - thanks as always for your commentingness

  • @cicpisces  Feb 2022

Thanks for your message. I grew up listening to Alison Moyet. Yazoo made two great albums that I loved. I can still listen to them today. You have some pretty big names in your influences.

  • @stephentanner  Feb 2022

Would love to try a skirmish but I can't do Wednesday I'm afraid. Band practising. Are they on most days?

  • @stephentanner  Feb 2022

The chorus was definitely the 'pull' for me. That bit you write and think, oh yes, that deserves to have some more bits to frame it! Haha!

  • @arthurrossi Feb 2022

I would like to thank you very, very much for your kind words...

  • @jorh  Feb 2022

I went last summer, you need to go it is really beautiful.m :) You just need to do a bit of weaving in and out of the Instagram influence haha

  • @sapient  Feb 2022

Thanks so much for listening to my ranty song ;)
You spotted the nod towards Blondie too... In part it sort of borrws from One Way or Another.

  • @gregthehero Feb 2022

hey marie, just checking in to see if you're still interested in singing some harmonies? if so, I will (try to) start to write something suitable and demo it. how should I contact you, the email above? thanks, rock on!

  • @jorh  Feb 2022

ooo let me know when you do and i'll pop back in and have a listen :)

  • @stephentanner  Feb 2022

Thanks Marieke. I'm growing more fond of it, but I think there are one or two clunky phrasings and perhaps repeated sentiments that I need to address. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it though.

  • @tiller2  Feb 2022

Marieke, some folks here use various card decks to help them think of narrative ideas for songs. I have used Bard Cards by @ianuarius, which have pictures, thematic words, and other song-inspiring elements.

  • @jmso91  Feb 2022

Thanks Marieke, hopefully I can turn it into something good! Great to hear from you. And thanks for the tip on commenting on people's walls. Stephen said the same yesterday, oops! I'm getting the hang of it now I think haha.

  • @auditasum  Feb 2022

Thanks for your lovely comment. "ADHD & Autism are my pronouns"-- relatable. XD Following back

  • @stephentanner  Feb 2022

Thanks for the comment Marieke. Looking forward to hearing your first :)
