Artist Bio

Influences:   I decided not to change this much from last year: Almost everything (OK I love Tom Waits, the Beatles and David Bowie. I have loved Bob Dylan, but confess I haven't listened to a lot of his later years stuff. Love old jazz and folk music, jug band, 50s, 60s, 80s, Patti Smith, the Ramones, and so many others.)

I joined FAWM last year for the first time and challenged myself to actually finish 14 songs since I hadn't written that many previously and surprised myself by actually doing it. I've been playing the ukulele since 2012 and somehow songwriting just happened, starting about 4 years ago. I never thought this was something I was going to do so it's been a treat! This year I want to take more time to see what's going on out there in FAWM world and am not going to force myself to do 14 (but if they come, great!)

Thanks Leslie. Will come back for a listen tonight.

Congratulations on hitting the 14! You have a lot of songs that have such good bones-now you have the leisure to play around with them. Now you have to consider trying 50/90 this summer!

Thanks for your kind words on “The Rainmaker!”

  • @analogj Feb 2022

Thanks, Leslie, for your comment on Mind Rolling. I really wanted to challenge myself to write a lyric which matched the feel of the song. It certainly works either way, with or without the lyric.

    Hi Leslie!

Yeah, I was initially thinking that what turned out to be "Salem Stomp" was going to be a song with lyrics. But that first part came to my head almost completely fleshed out, and I was thinking that this is really groovy as is. And with the pace of this FAWM project, I didn't want or feel the need to force anything. On the other hand, I now will have the grace, now that it's laid down, to revisit it. But if anyone came up with some killer lyrics to it, I'd be more than thrilled to collaborate.

  • @rwhosings  Feb 2022

Thank you for the comment on Pendulum Path!
I wanted the piano to be the pendulum during the verses, and be more of a motion generator in the chorus.
    Thanks for listening so deeply!
