thank you for checking out "At Your Command", I love how that one turned out, Nadine put together a beast of a track that really inspired me.
Thank you for all the kind comments! No tape (2” or other) in my studio - I wish! - but I love that sound. I use a stereo pair of ribbon mics and push them pretty hard coming in, and I think it gives a more toned down, tape-esque sound. Cheers!
Glad it brought a smile - I kind of wish I'd gone with my first take of the Professor bit, where I lapsed into a really bad Glaswegian accent half way through, then went full Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels at the end!
I don't think the reverb sucks. It's just different. 4 albums? Geez when will you finish them? I'm struggling with my artwork and thinking a lot about splitting it into two. Same as you my muse never knows if the next sing will be pop, rock, metal, electro or something completely different!
Congrats, man! This is the first time I made the goal. Pretty happy with the work so far. I will catch up with listening this week!
Thanks a lot for listening! "Take The Black" will be a blast when done. In this demo, only 30% of the tracks are real instruments - Can you imagine how this sounds after the whole team recorded? Recording the bagpipes will be a challenge, I hope it works. Let me know if you want to get medieval on your drums or brasses (pun intended). This will be an epic project.
I'm lagging behind in commenting my watchlist! Still haven't listened to your whole concept album, but I'll do that in the next days. Right now I'm taking back ups.
... and congrats to your FAWM win!
Thanks, my friend. I'm starting return visits on March 1. You're on the list! Bear with me, I've got a ton to do between now and then. See you then! :)
Oh my goodness!!! I haven’t been by either! Well that changes today. Thanks for your comments and listening!
Thanks for your comment on Marimba Madness. You WERE listening to an ORFF class. I led the grade 3s in a pentatonic jam, each getting a turn to improvise a little solo. Then @Aeye took over and produced an electronic track with that simple phone recording.
So glad you enjoyed "At your command". Full blown prog metal weirdness :D
Do you think we need real instruments? I am very unsure, because love the tutti, but everytime I listen to the fake guitar intro I'm like nobody would play like this! You don't notice is that much in the powerchord wall, cause I tricked a lot, but I just can't emulate the way of picking an arpeggio, cause I have no control about strings, partial mutes etc.
Just asking, because I wanna start a missing instrumentalists thread in the weekend to preare the recording post FAWM.
Thank you so much, this song was a total winner!
Hey dude, thanks so much for your super kind words on 'God Damn, I Feel Better' - and for the post on the recommendation thread!
Yeah, as I said in the notes, though rushed, it was a lot of fun - and actually came together really quickly. Those horns did end up sounding pretty sport on actually - they're the NI Session Horns, not really used them before, but they really sat well here. I know I should have just waited for the final chorus before they joined in, but hey, why wait!?
Thanks for your comments on dancing with the dogs collab with Cyndy.
Thank you for commenting on "Under" we definitely went to some dark places musically and lyrically on that one, but I love what we found there. Glad you liked it.
... and I haven't thought about a sax solo! I never did something with saxes. Humn!
Thanks also for listening!
"Under" is a real banger, I hope we get some fuzz to finish it even more heavy. I think you'll enjoy "At your command" since it's heavy prog and Chris delivered seriously good vocals on jt too!
"Pedal to metal" has been my vert first approach to rocknroll. I just had to rock out in my lunch break xD You got sharp ears! I'm pushing and straining my head voice around a register break. Usually c" would be my whistle register. I'm happy you appreciate my singing but I still hope I find someone better cause the takes from my cheap microphone cannot be compressed and corrected without artifacts. Too much noise and muffle.
You're definately sneaky! I still don't get why guitars sound so much better with tension chords than piano or any other instrument. I always think about a cat running over my keyboard and my hands have real trouble playing them. This is why I don't use them... only 7ths, dim, aug, sus...
Thanks for the great comments! Much appreciated. If you leave your email on my soundboard, I’d be happy to send you the wav file to lay the shred solo over. I shred pretty good myself, thought it was more interesting without it. I’d love to hear what you’d do with it though!
Thank you so much for your awesome comment!
Oh it is crazy this month… I’m so far behind on my listening, so no worries. I’m looking forward to hearing more…
No worries! I'm still here around March. Fingers crossed on your 14! I'm just waiting for collab input to finish the drafts. Maybe two challenges and that's it for 2022.
Hey Chad! It's interesting that you keep hearing John Adams in my music's. Definitely not an influence. I haven't listened to much Adams. But I've listened to and played a ton of Brahams. I was channeling Tony Banks for the solo and chords and pedal notes. Banks has always felt very Brahams to me, so maybe that's where it's coming from. I'm actually writing in a style a lot closer to what I was doing in high school. More arpeggios, piano driven, elongated textural themes, building layers. It feels natural and thing are flowing, so just going with it. Thanks for listening. I'll do some catch-up listening today.
You're SO kind! Thank you for that comment.
Wow thank you kindly for the nice words on Peace of Mind!
You on drums for "Dorian Gray"? This will become a real banger, thanks *_* I've noted that. Super glad you enjoyed my song.
My muse is running wild and getting real heavy this year. I had to stop her to catch some breath. I don't want to end up with 20 songs! Problems problems... Fingers crossed that you reach the 14!
Hi! Thanks for your comment. What I'm playing in the Starlight Fairy Waltz is an autoharp. It's easy to find video on YouTube, but here's one. She stops talking at about 1:48. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeCCSzDwWEw
Thank you so much! There is a genre called surf punk?! I didn't even know this existed. The drum beat and amp sound just happened. But yes, you're right, it sounds a bit surf...
You should check "Dorian Gray". I had tons of fun recording this!
You will love my new song. Definately.
Thanks a lot for your comment Chad! It means a lot to us. This song has been a lot of work but I guess we've found the right team to do some eurotrash and have fun with it ^^
Hey there!! Hope you're back for another year of FAWM!!!!!!! Have a great one.
Let's rock this FAWM! Thanks for everything. Happy FAWMing!
