Artist Bio

Influences:   Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Judy Collins (among others) were playing on my college turn-table. Now, Sara Jarosz, Chris Thiele, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss.

Pianist, guitarist, all (or at least, several) things stringed, and lifetime singer who thinks music is one of God's best ideas!

Happy 2022! This is my 7th FAWM, and every year I've had a new personal best in terms of number of songs written. So, is this the year for a win? No pressure! But I am regularly amazed that songs do seem to come forth, sometimes in a flurry, and sometimes after a struggle. Getting that first song out does often prime the pump, so to speak, so that's my goal - get one song out and see what happens after that! And have fun; and connect with other creative folks; and listen to some amazing songs from others who have a completely different style and outlook!

So, bring on the inspiration! Looking forward to sharing in all the talent, encouragement, and goodwill that abounds here.

Also, interesting that my new profile picture is an electric bass. Never played one in my life, but maybe it's a sign?

Thanks for listening in March! I know it’s spring now—heard my first leaf blower today. I don’t mind the electric ones as much—they don’t stink and aren’t quite as loud.

I agree, is great to find kindred spirits here! I never get many songs written but I do enjoy the listening and the learnng.

    Dear Deb,
Thank you for your kind comments and for the collaboration! I love your music and am so grateful to have a chance to make music together! Maybe sometime we can collab in person! Liz

  • @oaksnprairie  Mar 2022

Thanks for taking my last song out of 1 comment limbo! I’m looking forward to doing more listening, too!

Thank you for checking out, "Tiny Grass", Deb. I'm so glad you thought I was able to properly frame Donna's incredible lyric. I'll stop by later to check out a few of your songs. Feel free to remind me in a week or two if I haven't done so by then. :)

  • @donna  Feb 2022

Deb, you expressed an interest in hearing 'Tiny Grass'. The demo is now up. Hope you enjoy it. (-:

  • @nadine Feb 2022

You're welcome! Sometimes it's good not to take yourself too seriously ;-)

  • @bjunker  Feb 2022

Deb - Thanks so much for your generous comments on Weather Report! @hummingbear's lyrics are such fun to work with, and these really felt like they needed to be a spoken-word piece!

  • @paulharrison  Feb 2022

I loved your comments on Grasping At Love! What a fun way to think about the song. Thanks so much.

  • @jonmeta  Feb 2022

Thanks for your thoughts on Colorado, Deb. I lived here (as an adult) for about six years before we settled in Europe, and as I said, my mother’s family are natives. As I got to know a few Native Americans (one became a close friend & music partner) I came to see how the past is everywhere in the present. My quiet decision was just to live in a way that paid the debt in whatever small ways I could without being explicit about it. I believe that should be the responsibility of everyone who benefits from the status quo, though it’s an individual decision. A lot of individual decisions would change the status quo.

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 2022

I would LOVE that!!! Thank you!!!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 2022

Deb, let me know if you’d be up for a collab -and if so if there is a kind of lyric you would like or if you’d want to co-write something.

  • @berni1954  Feb 2022

Glad you liked our collab "Better Never than Late"

  • @tan482  Feb 2022

Thanks for stopping by to listen to my instrumentals and for your lovely comments! :-)

The Timer Goes Ding by @hummingbear now has music!

  • @jorgevallentine Feb 2022

    Hi Deb!
Thank you for your comment on "It's Love, It's Always Love." You're totally right, the song comes from a very real place and I do my best these days to only write from a real place (at least when they're my solo written songs). I really appreciate you saying I let you into my heart because that's exactly how I think of it these days. I've found showing people that vulnerability has started to ripple around me a little and made others feel more comfortable opening up a little more themselves which is a huge goal of mine. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I hope you're doing well!

  • @papaooo  Feb 2022

Thank you for the comments, and for curing me of a Zong. I'm in the original Portland area.

  • @theodamus  Feb 2022

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! In terms of the rejigging, we just won't examine what key it's in too closely ;) I fully encourage a departure from structure if it sounds like a fun challenge! :D

  • @mikedebenham  Feb 2022

    Thanks! You too.

  • @natalie  Feb 2022

Hello, Deb! Thanks for your comments on my song "Opening Hymn." As a fellow Judy Collins fan and former Madisonian, I am "extra-specially" looking forward to hearing your tunes when you post them!

  • @theodamus  Jan 2022

Hey thanks for saying hi - can’t wait to hear your stuff too!!

  • @kahlo2013  Jan 2022

    Dear Deb!
Looking forward to you music and creativity! Please let me know if you’d like to collaborate in any way! Liz

Hi Deb! Another year, another FAWM. :) It is a sign, you better go get that bass guitar now and starting practicing... and apparently I need to go get a tuba!? Yikes. Ha.

  • @jonmeta  Jan 2022

Hi, Deb, it’s good to see you back here! Yes, it’s amazing to me when a song emerges. Something of a miracle. I look forward to yours.

  • @hbusse  Jan 2022

Hi Deb! Welcome back to FAWM once more! Looking forward to hearing your creations this year :)

And yes, loving the randomness of my tuba... although I grew up listening to brass instruments being played throughout my house, so it kind of fits :)

  • @theresaj Jan 2022

Hi Deb! Thanks for the note! I think the beach can provide some inspiration for me ;-). Looking forward to your lovely music!

  • @majordanby  Jan 2022

Thanks Deb! I’ve watchlisted you so I can return the favour. :-) Not long now!

  • @andygetch  Jan 2022

Hi Deb (also my wifes name :)), also great to see you back here and I am looking forward to hearing your music as well!

  • @johncrossman  Jan 2022

Huzzah! Rollicking, that's good. Challenge: write a song that could be objectively described as rollicking. I wonder if we could pull off some boogie woogie....

More to the immediate point, welcome back to you, good to see you again!

  • @hummingbear  Jan 2022

I'm glad to see you back! Looking forward to hearing what your creative heart produces this year. Open for collabs!

  • @nancyrost  Jan 2022

Madisonians in the house! Looking forward to sharing this FAWM. One of these days we'll actually be in a house together again, too.
