Four Zeroes 9

Artist Bio

Influences:   Dilettantism and jazz. Childhood: Beatles, Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Blondie, 50s/60s rock n roll Teens: Pulp, Nirvana, REM, Pixies, Strokes, Blur, 70s punk, 90s/00s nme indie Nowadays: Steely Dan, Fiona Apple, 80s/90s alternative, current DIY bands.

"Like Kurt Cobain and Tom Verlaine meeting at a Steely Dan concert, taking MDMA together and bonding over a shared love of Rihanna and Dr Pepper." - Nobody, because that would be frankly absurd.

Singer/songwriter who makes little-to-no sense with or without anyone joining in. Too fiddly for solo shows and too awkward and various to form a band (I've tried both many times). Someone called me "outsider art" once. Call me Four (he/him pronouns).

Class of 2011 - I just keep coming back for more it seems! I play guitar, mainly, but attempt all sorts of other things. I've been writing songs since I was 12, and have done nine FAWMs, as well as writing and recording loads of other songs on my own and with several bands. This year I'm going to endeavour to do as much as I can on my studio setup instead of just recording with Audacity and my laptop mic.

Note: I know that's not how you spell "zeros". I was going to make something up about it relating to the opposite of "heroes", but... no, I was just having a slightly strugglesome day when I first signed up to FAWM.

    Thanks for commenting btw ;)

Regarding different voices: All cred for the voice on ”Like a bird” goes to Siri (although somewhat mangled by fx) ;)

  • @fonte  Feb 2022

Thanks for the fun of tape 11. Really loved the mood you created with the lyrics and melody. Whole vibe was great. I had a blast! :-)

  • @arkka  Feb 2022

    Thanks for the comments!

  • @vomvorton  Feb 2022

Hmm no I don't seem to have that one either. I've got copies of all the ones that I mixed but haven't done a very good job keeping an archive of tapes I've contributed to but then sent elsewhere, alas!

  • @vomvorton  Feb 2022

This is on the tape that started in 2020, right? Excited to hear that one, as I have absolutely no memory at all of what I contributed to it!

  • @valeriecox  Feb 2022

You got a way pedal. That's so cool. I want a way pedal. :P Thanks for popping in on my tune.

  • @vegansongs  Feb 2022

Thank you for listening to Square One. I may try to upcycle the song after FAWM. And you gave me an idea- I may post some rambling synth instrumental this year. Why not?

  • @timfatchen  Feb 2022

Ref your comment on https://fawm.org/songs/125890/ Robyn MacK Has a heavy bass on my gear, phones and studio speakers both, so it's got to be speakers problem for you.

  • @vomvorton  Feb 2022

Damn, I actually meant to see if I could note down the eye charts I had to read and use them for something, but I forgot. Probably because the optician seemed really keen to tell me about her lockdown dog, which she "imported from Romania".

  • @vomvorton  Feb 2022

Thanks! I had the day off today so I've been working on that song nearly all day (except for when I went for an EYE TEST and ordered some NEW GLASSES so perhaps my next song will be about opticians or something). But I'm keen to push myself a bit more this year so very pleased to hear it's already paying off!

  • @headfirstonly  Feb 2022

Hooray! You will *love* it. And installing the Spitfire app will also let you snag all their free LABS instruments, which are crazy and great. They just sampled Philip Glass's piano, released it yesterday on his birthday.

You may be surprised to learn that "Incognitium" is in 4/4. The fact that you thought otherwise pleases me immensely. :-D

  • @rollasoc  Jan 2022

Can you send me your address so I can get tape #11 in the post to you

Hey howdy! Looking forward to your FAWM and hope that you are back! Any interest in 4-tracking? The tags are not alerting people so I'm checking in. Cool either way, but I hope you will. We have a bunch of new folks both US and UK, so there should be a good amount of tapes. :)
