Influences: omg omg BTS & Agust D (and slowly other Kpop artists, too.) Also, queer folk musicians; Old Town School songwriters; people I know from Song School in Lyons, CO; and also, like, the Old 97s, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch, Jason Isbell, Tegan and Sara, Fountains of Wayne, Chopin; American, Irish and Swedish fiddle music.
Hey! I'm Ethan Lyn.
My pronouns are they/them.
I'm white, queer, and trans. I live in St. Paul with my husband @alyxanderjames, who convinced me to do FAWM. This is my third year! We also got a dog and her name is Nova Sibirsk (she's a husky mix) and she's a weird and magical trash goblin.
I started learning fiddle by ear a few years ago, and enjoyed it more than any other instrument I've played. It's been an amazing exercise in letting go of perfectionism. I haven't played much recently, so I'm hoping FAWM can get me back to it and I can crank out a fiddle tune or two. I adore your patience for sitting through my I-haven't-practiced-in-months intonation.
I used to write mostly with guitar, maybe a little ukulele or mandolin, but this year I started taking home recording classes which got me working more with MIDI. I also moved back to the region I grew up in and my parents gave me the piano I learned on growing up.
**Ridiculous projects I'm working on include:**
- writing Gregorian chants (and eventually Renaissance motets??) out of non-religious Latin text, such as the full scientific names of endangered plants and animals
- making the dumb songs I sing to my dog into an album, which is tentatively titled "I Love You But I Don't Trust You"
- Wizard folk music (HP-themed)
- writing queer stuff and playing it on a rainbow-colored set of children's handbells
Also I fucking LOVE the random Wikipedia article prompt and look forward to what direction(s) it leads me this year.
No songs by this fawmer (yet).
Welcome back! Hope you have a good FAWM
Hey Ethan! Yay!... you're back.
Just because of the title "I Love You But I Don't Trust You" and knowing it's about your dog makes me desperately want to hear it. I have to admit, I hate you a little for coming up with that and not me. :D
Happy FAWM!!!
