Artist Bio

Influences:   Whatever permeates the Brownian motion that goes on in my brain....

Pronouns: he/him/his...but you can call me anything you like.

Excited to be back at FAWM. Trying to not let any plans I may have overtake me and just take it one song at a time...

*** UPDATE *** 06 Feb 2022
My laptop (i.e. my DAW) died on me this morning. Luckily I have a warranty service. But, it will take 2 days for the motherboard to be replaced. This also means I will lose all of my data and will have to set up the machine again. All FAWM 2022 songs have been lost. Of course, I still have the MP3s for the finished songs. In the meantime, I will attempt to try and record some guitar into my phone. Will see how that goes. If I get that working, at least I can follow through with committed exquisite corpses etc. Also, luckily I had finished my parts on the video challenge and sent those off before my machine died.
Hay ho… acceptance is the answer.

*** UPDATE *** 08 Feb 2022
Laptop repaired in under 24 hours and collected by my lovely wife. The motherboard was replaced, including SSD hard drive. I am now in the process of restoring a backup, which seems to be taking an extremely long time. Once restored, I should be good to kind of go. The backup is pre-FAWM, so all FAWM data is lost, but I should be ok to proceed with writing and recording.

*** UPDATE *** 11 Feb 2022
Finally got my computer wotking and am taking regular backups now. The experience did dent my momentum. Add to that, I have been assigned a new piece of work which means I am concerned what time I will be allowed to participate in FAWM. We shall see.

Corpses/challenges in progress:
- Video challenge - in flight - pending final mix down
- Movie Title Challenge - pending - at risk of running out of time before I get to this.
- All placeholders have music of varying degrees.

I have never hit the double in FAWM before.

Thanks for stopping by.

The podcasts are not linked to fawm or 50/90 or artists who do them. My podcast will be going on fortnightly for a few more episodes before season 2 ends (i do 20 episodes a season) send me an email at [email protected] with a song. If you want one p,ayed and we can talk about what else you want to do eg songwriters corner or featured artist etc.

  • @bithprod  Mar 2022

Hi Simon, Do you have a song structure chart for Radio Out? As my wife has contracted Covid-19, I probably won't get an opportunity to record scratch vocals until Monday, but I thought I'd start working on lyrics today. (Any thoughts or wishes regarding song subject?)

  • @mandolinda  Mar 2022

No worries, I hope your work commitments settle out. I have the luxury of retirement, so I am fortunate to listen at leisure.

  • @headfirstonly  Mar 2022

Dead DAW or not, you've been busy! And I've been remiss in my listening, which will be addressed forthwith...

  • @katestantonsings  Mar 2022

Thank you, Simon! I've appreciated your comments and feedback on my music or collabs. You've had a prolific FAWM experience! Well done!!

  • @nancycunning  Mar 2022

Hey, Simon - I'll send you a set of basic lyrics and a rough vocal to show you what I mean for Hard-Hitting. I kept it pretty sparse to start.

  • @nadine Mar 2022

Simon, thanks for these very kind words! I'm trying to get into the field of project management professionally. I hope it works. We stay in touch and big hugs :)

  • @nadine Mar 2022

Thanks a lot for your heartfelt words on "Fit right in". FAWM is one of the less places where I fit in. I'm looking forward to turn this song into a gemstone with @davidtaro and @katestantonsings.

I'm sorry that I cannot return your #tit4tat. I've listened to nearly all songs already o_O Your FAWM has been very strong, especially the collabs with @spazsquatch

  • @nadine Mar 2022

A good chemistry between artists means a lot to me! I am so glad that you found Michael. There are some folks here where I seem to have this kind of chemistry.

People try to convince me to join 50/90 but I probably quit again. Arranging and mixing all the projects I started this FAWM, the 3 remaining from last year plus some Soundcloud collabs keep me busy for months. I dont know how to feel about uploading final mixes of songs on this platform that have been drafts on FAWM. If I did this it would be only 3 songs and I would have to turn down any request on collaboration cause I still have 10+ songs on my list. On the other hand youre in touch with these cool folks. What do you think?

P.S. I still want to hear your voice.

  • @nadine Feb 2022

I remember you telling me that you wanted to sing on some of your songs. Is any online where I can listen to your voice? I am just curious. And yes, I don't care if my teeth hurt, cause I sang a lot in the past days. And I'm not good either xD

  • @spazsquatch Feb 2022

Great track dude. If you’ve got 10 or so more alt-country type things in you, we should put an albums worth together over 50/90. It’s a genre I don’t play around in much, but I have a soft spot for… as I said in the liner note, I owe you a better vocal track. The song deserves better than I gave it.

  • @nadine Feb 2022

You're welcome. Your QC is a pickaxe! I'm happy that you enjoy playing around with it. Knowing the gear can help a lot to get a decent sound. Will you polish some of your drafts?

  • @zecoop  Feb 2022

I ended up diving into 3-4 Womble videos after your song, lol. Quite fun stuff! That is a pretty classic 70’s sound, which I love. Thanks for the details!

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Wow, Simon what happened to you during the last days?! You're killing this FAWM. There is so much stuff I have to listen to in the next days. Oufz! Just stopped by to say that "Take the black" is online now: https://fawm.org/songs/136172/
I look forward to rock this with you :)

  • @frank Feb 2022

Thanks for the comment on my megaman 2 song!

  • @spazsquatch Feb 2022

Great work on the coming out of the the bridge on The Raven. I love how big the song feels. Great collab!

  • @radioovermoscow Feb 2022

Thanks! The main guitar is based on a Rammstein preset in Guitar Rig. The other - centred in the chorus - is STL Tonehub, but with both my Big Muff pedals turned on - the Deluxe and the Pi. So plenty of fuzz...

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Oh yes, this would be cool! I'd love to learn more about sounddesign on amps. No hurries. And please don't forget to tell me which modules are which kind of effects. Thank you *hugs*

  • @nadine Feb 2022

I always hated sounddesign with synthesizers which is one of the reasons I quit electronic music. But maybe tweaking my software amps is more fun. How do you get these high sustain sounds? Heavy compression? Tons of reverb?!

  • @nadine Feb 2022

No worries. Most people are still around in the next 3-4 weeks. I've done a lot of reciprocal commenting in the weekends but I'm lagging behind in my watchlist...

  • @nadine Feb 2022

    Congratulations, you did it!!!!

  • @spazsquatch Feb 2022

I think the mix sounds good, the bridge vocals are a little buried, but I sort of hated my performance on them, so good riddance. lol.

I appreciate the comment from your wife. I wanted to do some punk/rock songs because I've been doing a lot of head voice stuff and I wanted to exercise a bit of mixed voice. I barely feel like I was pulling it off, so the compliment gets points from me.

  • @slightlydrunk  Feb 2022

Thank you very much for all of your kind comments! I appreciate it!

  • @emplate  Feb 2022

Cheers for the comment on Huokaisee pitämyspuu tuulessa!

  • @radioovermoscow Feb 2022

Thanks! Mostly I use the Big Muff Pi, or a fuzz emulator called Pedalz. Sometimes a normal Big Muff.

  • @timfatchen  Feb 2022

I probably shouldn't have done that. Still. I used haiku to set the libretto for the ill-fated opera Ngurunderi. It's still possible to detect them. Basically, I wrote what needed to be said, reduced the lot to haiku, then expanded to fit the music. It was quite strange in some respects, but it ended up with a wonderful word/music match, with absolute economy and appropriateness!

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Feb 2022

The one I played must of been a v1 it didn't have a channel switch, but did sound great. They make good stuff. I first got turned onto them from another pedal builder whose circuits I used to guinea pig back when he was mostly doing mods... at least professionally. That's the one overdrive I still play is one of his modded out tube screamers from maybe '96-97(ish)

Its in a poorly cut case... Just has some crappy plastic knobs on it. I long ago lost the back plate so its just got a piece of cardboard and is all black taped up, but still sounds great, and some collector would probably pay me a lot of money if I got him to verify it was one of his prototypes LOL.

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Feb 2022

It sounds great! I've played one briefly JHS made, that I believe was supposed to emulate the Supro, but at the time I already had 3 or 4 overdrives. I went out of my way to cut that down to just one. I like my pickups on the extra hot side as well, so it is major overkill for me to even really have any overdrive. I have to work hard to get a clean tone if I ever want one LOL.

  • @toms  Feb 2022

That is a great sounding pedal.

  • @judypie  Feb 2022

100%! It was totally like I was in the weirdest comedy, I really had to make an effort to not laugh at the weirdness of it all! Or a hidden camera show hahaha

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 2022

Responded to your FB message. Thanks!

  • @quork  Feb 2022

Yes I got it, all good.

  • @lowhum Feb 2022

Could you please send your part again? Might have gotten lost in the haze!

  • @willyviste Feb 2022

Hey! Now I've sent it too the email link on your profile here. Hope you've recieved it:)

  • @apolez3  Feb 2022

Oh, thanks for okay to use the FLUFF~ I didn't realize you're just on an iphone hmmm let me see... they have apps in the app store, I searched MP3 Converter

  • @apolez3  Feb 2022

FYI~ not sure if this helps but I took mine into iTunes ( Apple Music )
[How to turn into MP3 version]

    1. you click on FILE and ADD TO LIBRARY put your song in the iTunes (Apple Music)

    2. You go to the preferences and make sure that when you click in there down below somewhere on IMPORT SETTINGS that in the Import Using: dropbox it says or click it to say MP3 ENCODER
    then

    3. You play it

    4. Go to File then CONVERT & press CREATE MP3 VERSION .

    ~ Voilà ~

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Thank you! Let me know if you ever plan to turn the draft into a song. It been fun!

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Cool to listen to your full part on exquisite corpse. I wasn't so wrong about the surf rock but this intro licks are great!

  • @sorby69  Feb 2022

@dreamscuba Simon - our Exquisite Corpse is ready & published :)

Well done for your part - sounds great!

  • @sorby69  Feb 2022

Thanks for commenting on my first song Simon! Checking yours out now.

  • @eli666 Feb 2022

    Thanks for a comment!

  • @yam655  Feb 2022

What you have is a reggae backing track. I can provide lyrics/vocals, but what I provide will most definitely not be reggae. It's like, "Don't do accents if you can't actually pull them off." If I tried to actually do reggae, it would likely be offensively bad, so I'd rather not even aim for that label for the final track.

So, I can totally work with it, but if you want the final result to actually be reggae... You'd best find someone else for that one. :)

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Feb 2022

Thanks, I love that barns reverb (its metal) but the ice has already started falling... so it has its drawbacks. I got started on that video collab too, but its definitely going to need another take :)

  • @bandybum Feb 2022

Thanks so much for your kind words on 'Love in the way things are' https://fawm.org/songs/125348/
    it is much appreciated!

Looking forward to hear what comes from your 'glacial speed' studio :)

  • @silvermachine Feb 2022

Hi Simon, I must thank you for organising that immensely flattering 'Write a Song Like Silvermachine' thread last year, and of course your messages on my soundboard this year and last.
Well, you've persuaded me to do FAWM this year!
I will be back to check out your progress. Good luck with FAWM!

  • @dragondreams  Feb 2022

That Moeck recorder cost more than a lot of my basses. But the mic cost about the same as 500g of decent coffee beans. :-D

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Thanks for your comment! Oh yes this has been another great collab with plenty of fun :D
Your mail just arrived, I'll check out later.

  • @dragondreams  Feb 2022

    Thanks for the lovely comments!
The amp and recorder combo hasn't surfaced yet. The first two are just the recorder into the Focusrite via a super-cheap condenser from eBay. I added a touch of reverb in Reaper. The harmonies are me playing with myself. -)

  • @marklberry  Feb 2022

D-Scuba, let's connect on another song this year. Cheers, Mark

  • @ianuarius Feb 2022

    have fun have fun!

  • @zecoop  Feb 2022

Looking forward to your music as always! FAWM is finally here!

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Cool, thanks! This will also be my first exquisite corpse. I'm psyched to hear your idea. It makes it easier if you could also send me the BPM and the last 2 chords.

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Cool were in the same exquisite corpse! Have you done that before? Hope I get it right that I get the last 10 seconds from you and compose 1 minute sending it to @sorby69 ?

  • @tabitha Jan 2022

If you create something with space for a mandolin, I'd be delighted to give it a crack!

  • @tabitha Jan 2022

Hey Simon, thanks for responding to my call for radio guests. Unfortunately due to the large response, I already have enough participants and don't think I have time to add in any more this time around, sorry. It's sad, I would have loved to interview you and everyone who responded. If some of the interviews fall through or the time I have available increases I will get in touch though.
I had a listen to some stuff on your SoundCloud and it was most enjoyable!
Cheers, and Happy FAWM - I hope you are all well and good over in Singapore,
    Tabitha

  • @chrismyth02 Jan 2022

Great influences! I'd love to dig into something heavy or psychedelic. Getting excited.

  • @standup  Jan 2022

Cou t me in for team (without a Bigsby) Gretsch

  • @scottlake Jan 2022

Let’s do the Team Bigsby thing!

  • @nadine Jan 2022

Thank you! Haha, I have to smile about the Brownian motion! It's all about diffusion...

  • @nuj4x  Jan 2022

  • @nadine Jan 2022

Hey Simon! I'm looking forward to hear your songs. Happy FAWMing!

  • @boyatheart Jan 2022

Hope your geared up ready Simon. Have a good one.
