Artist Bio

Influences:   70s disco, 80s powerballads, 90s eurodance, 00s j-rock, 10s progmetal, 20s retrowave. Oh, and Bach. Let's not forget Bach.

Pronouns: she/they/dungeon master

Chroes: If you can, pronounce it [ˈkrøːs]. If you can't, stick with how you'd pronounce crows.

Jackfruit of all trades.
Spacewave nostalgia in E minor.
Aiming for too many French horns, too many vocal tracks, too much reverb.

~~~
I have always enjoyed listening to and making music.
In 2020, I finally started recording and producing my own music, and I love everything about it.
~~~

Plans for 2022:
1) Finding all my fellow cabasa people
2) Compose 14 songs despite everything else
3) Connect with other musicians

~~~
Todo-List:
[3] Explore space sounds!
[X] Experiment and have fun! (I mean, I did a waltz!)
[4] Skirmishes!
[X] Try out new microphone and learn to work with it
[4] Write some lyrical lyrics
[ . ] Use some of the ideas recorded on the mobile phone
[X] One song with German lyrics
[1] Weekly challenge?
[5] Play some guitar!
[X] Explore reverb and delay more
[1] Have fun with time signatures
[X] Find new approaches to old problems (bought a new microphone because my old one was shite)
[1] Highly layered vocals
[ . ] 80s Power-Ballad!
    Yeah, thanks. Don't feel obligated to, but I'll check out your stuff too. I just didn't want the original fine suggestion to get lost in the noise.
    I know some fellow fawmers (@helenseviltwin comes to mind) who ask for the feedback on their pages. She probably doesn't get much "cc" but would appreciate it if she did.
    I'm open to whatever, though I'm more likely to ask for it on a song I want to work on more after Feb. I'm sure many people feel the same! Cheers.
  • @fearlessflight2014  Mar 2022
    Hi Chris - no! It’s not a call out, though your comment (along with another) was the catalyst. If it was a call out it would have been an awfully passive aggressive one! I recognise the helpful spirit of your criticism and if I was intending that audio to be heard by anyone in a public place and presented as a finished track I would want to hear such advice. Just like I don’t want to learn how to play the drums I don’t want to spend any time on learning how to mix. So when I read detailed mix critique here I feel deflated. An analogy would be: I’m a trained voice teacher. But that doesn’t mean when I hear a FAWM demo where someone maintains an overly high larynx and therefore gets a shout-y tone in their passagio or flips to their head voice in an unattractive way that I feel compelled to point it out in my FAWM comments. I appreciate your intentions and am SO grateful you visited the song and took the time to comment. And thanks to you I will remember to add a disclaimer about the mix quality on future demos. :)
  • @nadine Mar 2022
    You're welcome! I think it's quite hard to make something sound full and keeping the clarity. This is why I struggle a lot with sparse arrangements. I heard people using sidechain on reverb, but I never did this and my DAW does not permit :-(
  • @vivalarayna Mar 2022
    Thanks for your kind comments! I barely had the energy to write this year, so demos were never an option, but I had a lot of fun with what I did create. I'm so glad they resonated with you!
  • @emplate  Mar 2022
    Cheers for the comment on "Florida Man"! As @hmorg states below, we had fun. In my case, all the way, even!
  • @hmorg  Mar 2022
    Thanks for the comment on "Florida Man"! We had fun making it (well, okay, I didn't have fun all the way as I was constantly on the edge of my playing prowess, but, you know, it's the end result that counts).
  • @nancycunning  Mar 2022
    Thank you for responding to Outside the Open Gate and Beginning to End. I would love to have you put music to any of my lyrics. I don't have any conditions at all. If you need to change some of the words, no problem, or if you want me to make some changes, happy to do it. I'd love to hear what you come up with, but even that's not a condition. It's interesting that you don't usually like singing in German. I wasn't planning to do any music for this FAWM, until I found some German lyrics I loved and couldn't help myself.
  • @engebretsen  Feb 2022
    Thx a lot for comments on my song. You been very nice to me this year. Much appreciated!
  • @johnstaples  Feb 2022
    Hey there! CONGRATS on your win!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Thanks a lot for your comments on "Fit right in". They mean a lot to me. FAWM is one of the less places where I feel welcomed. This will be a great tune when done. My piano playing and singing is not good enough to do this song justice.
  • @mikeb  Feb 2022
    Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Tired of the Blues'!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    You're welcome! If I got it right there are 4 tracks on my pipeline. Bye, bye weekend! Good luck on reaching the FAWM goal. 2 songs left! But who cares if there is quality stuff?
  • @droberts  Feb 2022
    Thanks for listening to my song Five! I'll probably tweak things a bit, but I appreciate you hearing it
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Kurz auf deutsch: Schäbig weil es nicht mein Stil ist, ich so was nicht singen / spielen kann und der Humor wirklich sehr dunkel und schräg ist. Da spricht mein innerer Gruftie. Kannst dir sicher denken wofür der Plastikponcho und das beige Kleidungsstück steht ;-) Freut mich aber dass es dir gefallen hat. Ich hatte gestern Nachmittag etwas Spaß.
    Und was den morph betrifft... ich bin einer spontanen Eingebung gefolgt und habe absichtlich nur die ersten 30-40 Sekunden gehört. Wenn ich den ganzen Song vor dem Remix kenne neige ich dazu ihn zu kopieren. Viel Erfolg bei deiner Kette!
  • @grenzgaengerin Feb 2022
    Lieben Dank Dir für Deinen herzlichen und lieben Kommentar auf "Lyfjahjólið (The Medicine Wheel)" Es ist ein absoluter Herzenssong - Dein Kommentar bedeutet mir sehr viel <3 Danke
  • @debs  Feb 2022
    Your morph, Chris! Can't wait to hear what you do with it! https://fawm.org/songs/134286/
  • @karlsburg25  Feb 2022
    Wow than you so much for your beautiful insightful comments. Looking forward to more of your amazing tunes
  • @meadows  Feb 2022
    And my drums are always programmed. ;)
  • @meadows  Feb 2022
    Thanks Chris for your comments on my songs. Much appreciated!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    You're welcome :) I don't think much when I comment. Just writing down the words that come right into my mind, because I feel like these are the most sincere. I try my best to encourage people cause I know very well how it feels like to be disencouraged by criticism and unfair judgements. We are here to have fun and we only grow artistically as long as we enjoy what we do.
    Thanks for your words on my music. I'm happy that FAWM taught me, that I can do whatever I like, when my vision is strong enough. I wish I could perform the stuff I write, but I'm miles away from being a singer, guitarist or pianist. The huge gap of experience between production / composition and performance is one of my biggest challenges.
    P.S. I decided to comment everything in English, though I know I can talk in German with you.
  • @irka Feb 2022
    Vielen Dank für deinen Kommentar!
  • @intoyourlight  Feb 2022
    Thank you so much for your comments on „change of weather“ and „black widow“ :) very happy that you liked them! Yes, jazz is also not very much my cup of tea, at least the „confusing“ stuff. But piano jazz can be quite beautiful.
  • @chrismyth02 Feb 2022
    Thanks for the good vibes on "At Your Command"!
  • @mikeb  Feb 2022
    Thanks for the listen and comments on 'Selfish'!
  • @audrey  Feb 2022
    Oh, and thanks also for your kind comment on my piece "Disintegration". I really appreciate it.
  • @audrey  Feb 2022
    Thank you for the kind words about my piece "Returning Home from Market". I had to look up 'Studio Ghibli' because I hadn't heard of them before, but I'm pleased that you think my piece would suit a scene of theirs. I often write my music with a type of movie scene in mind. Thanks!
  • @slusk Feb 2022
    Guten Abend!
    Thanks for listening to and your kind comments on Procrastination. It’s always interesting to see what people find in songs.
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    I'm glad you enjoyed "At your command". What kind of magic we did there? I call it MIDi sorcery and producer voodoo. Level 17 perk. I never heard of the band Thredshold but sounds like I should. I still think that the piano bit is inspired by Archive. No idea why my muse came up with such weird time signatures. I've struggled with them for YEARS, I could not even count along and then BÄM let's write the weirdest song of your life and it worked.
  • @arkka  Feb 2022
    Thanks again for the kind words!
  • @rwhosings  Feb 2022
    Thanks so much for your comments! So encouraging and kind.
  • @momentegalerie Feb 2022
    Hi Nähe Heidelberg, das is ja nicht wirklich weit entfernt! wünsch dir viel Erfolg beim Erreichen deiner Ziele! Eva
  • @engebretsen  Feb 2022
    Thx for comments. (Folk song tag is deleted. I didn`t know the genre on it... ) You have some songs now. I will select some of them too listen at now.
  • @mikeb  Feb 2022
    Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Emerald Fire'!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    We should save #girl-with-daw for next year xD
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    You're welcome! I hope you don't mind my typos. Autocorrect is a weird thing.
  • @mikeb  Feb 2022
    Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Something Wicked'!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Thanks a lot! Funny how lyrics go a different direction. I usually don't write happy upbeat stuff und major scales but some bitter lyrics add a nice contrast and a hint of sarcasm xD
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Thanks a lot for your comment on "Under", Chris, this answers a lot to me :) Fingers crossed we get some heavy real guitars and rock the stage later the year.
  • @chrismyth02 Feb 2022
    Thanks for dropping by "Under" I appreciate your comment!
  • @artie  Feb 2022
    Hey Chris! Thanks for your comment on Valentine's and giving it a listen. I agree about the vocals... I struggled to achieve that needed presence in post. My mixing skills are still a bit wonting.
  • @intoyourlight  Feb 2022
    Thank you so much! You are amazing and also very inspiring! I’ll listen to your other songs hopefully tomorrow, it’s soooo difficult to write songs and also give feedback and give thanks etc :D but I enjoy it very much so far.
    Looking forward to listening to your next songs :)
  • @intoyourlight  Feb 2022
    Thank you so much for your kind words on my song „Don’t be sober“ :)
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Thanks a lot Chris! Looks like I write at least one weird waltz a year xD
  • @zecoop  Feb 2022
    Thanks for listening and for the thoughts! I definitely have plans to play with panning, but that’s for later. I love messing with that, but after writing and recording that song in one afternoon, I just wanted to get it BIG, wide and ready for possible vocals. Later on I will remix, but this is the writing month… :)
  • @manoloenvelope Feb 2022
    Welcome To The Cabasa :)
  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022
    No rush on Blue and Green. Better to “wait for the inspiration!” All is good.
  • @greengrassgirl  Feb 2022
    Hi, @chroes
    I left a comment on your Kalliope page. I’m intrigued by the “outer space” vibe.
  • @cairobraga  Feb 2022
    hey Chris! the Fediverses collide, boom! I just wanted to leave you with a link and wish you an amazing FAWM: https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12183/
  • @waltermosch  Feb 2022
    Hey, thanks for commenting. Stubbed my toe is with two guitars till 1:58 then it's only one. I was to lazy to record the second guitar:) The toe is o.k. meanwhile. It was broken in lots oft tiny bits... Ouch...
  • @arkka  Feb 2022
    Thanks for the comment!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Metal macht alles besser ;-)))
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Was schockt, rockt ;-) Ich mag auch keine Volksmusik, aber Parodien. Schön dass du Spaß hattest. Und ach ja Powerchords sind weder Dur noch Moll :D
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    You're welcome! It's super hard for me to stop producing. But due to album production, I stopped songwriting for 10 months and now my head burts! So happy to hear that you uploaded your 2nd song. I'll listen asap.
  • @stephubik  Feb 2022
    Hey! Thanks for your comment on "So Simple", it's greatly appreciated :) Having happily left lead vocal duties to others for the last 12 years, I have to admit that I feel *very* unsure about my singing voice (especially hitting the high notes since I got my thyroid out...) But maybe I'll just try more punch & presence in one of the next songs... :)
  • @unpronounceable  Feb 2022
    <3 Thanks for your note. I appreciate not being alone and am glad you're feeling better about FAWM :)
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Great! I'm missing this :( you should check the #filk hashtag there are plenty of nerds writing songs about these themes. It's fun to listen and read!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    I had to laugh so hard about your dungeon master pronoun. Which pnp?
  • @che Feb 2022
    Hey fellow Cabasa! Loved your first track... looking forward to the next. Best wishes!
  • @zecoop  Feb 2022
    Hey, no mocking the pronouns here... but I play D&D weekly and just love the idea. I'm all onboard with whatever people identify with.
    And casabas... because they are cool and I love shakey sounds of all sort.
  • @engebretsen  Feb 2022
    Thx a lot for comment on "More and More." Much appreciated.
  • @zecoop  Feb 2022
    1) I fully approve of the Dungeon Master pronoun. Winning. (and all other pronouns, for the record)
    2) I own a casaba and need to use it this year. Seriously. Get it out of the drawer Z!!
    3) I appreciate the conversation and am looking forward to hearing what you do! :)
  • @rwhosings  Feb 2022
    Thanks for the comment, glad to spread smiles too(:
  • @rwhosings  Feb 2022
    Steal away! Always happy to spread some creative momentum!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Thanks a lot for your comment on "Dorian Gray": I really enjoyed rocking out. I hope we find a cool team to take this song to the max!
  • @frozenlonesome  Feb 2022
    Thanks for listening and your kind comments on Globemeter. I’m really inspired by the film I’m using for audio samples this year and glad you enjoyed the track.
  • @misterdemp  Feb 2022
    Thanks for the positive thoughts and the pointing out the Cabasa connection! Absolutely have a great FAWM!
  • @nadine Feb 2022
    Danke für deinen Kommentar zu "Diplomacy". Freut mich dass dir der Song gefallen hat. Der hat auch irre Spaß gemacht! Leider kann ich nicht schreien, sonst hätte ich es unfassbar gerne gemacht! Es ist sehr viel schwieriger als ich dachte. Man darf dafür nicht die richtige Stimme verwenden sonst bist du ruckzuck heiser, aber meine untrainierte false cord klingt überhaupt nicht nach Punk. Vielleicht findet sich ein Experte?
  • @tootoobee  Jan 2022
    Hi there, wishing you an AWESOME FAWM!! <3
  • @wurzelfrau Jan 2022
    Happy FAWM Chris <3
  • @meadows  Jan 2022
    Hallo Chris! Freue mich schon auf Deine Songs. Vielleicht schaffen wir ja dieses Jahr eine Collab!? Würde mich sehr freuen. :)
  • @intoyourlight  Jan 2022
    PS: Oh und deine Bilder sind toll! Ich male auch gerne.
  • @intoyourlight  Jan 2022
    Hey danke für deinen Willkommensgruß :) ich wünsche dir frohes schaffen und vor allem ganz viel Spaß!
  • @frankyfire Jan 2022
    Hey! Looking forward to your new ideas this year! "Neon Lights" from last is still stuck in my head (even though I don't remember if it was from FAWM).
    I'm probably not going to write lots of songs myself this year, but if you want a "Chip Me 2.0" I am defintely in!
  • @crutherford  Jan 2022
    Hooray! Happy FAWM-ing to you as well!
  • @songwritingzen  Jan 2022
    Ah HA!! Snap with the cabasa. Love it but I do wish it was a VibroSlap... They make me laugh. Good luck for this year, look forward to hearing some toons :)
  • @rwhosings  Jan 2022
    Hi! I'm a fellow vocalist, and I don't know if "connect with fellow musicians" extends to collabs, but I'm always up to add yet another vocal line.
  • @jsmalls  Jan 2022
    Looking forward to hearing what your creative process brings the world in a few days!
  • @sapient  Jan 2022
    You too! Have fun
