Influences: Many. Too many.
Hi from Sunny Scotland! Feeling a bit isolated this year, not just because we are all in full lockdown after the UK's gross mismanagement of the pandemic has left us with the highest rate of infection in the world, but also because the UK has now completely removed us from the EU, in a staggeringly face-spiting act of autonasal evisceration.
At least we can still connect through FAWM, until the UK government decides to take back control of the internet and pull up all the fibre-optic cables leading in and out of our islands!
You fawmers are literally my only audience though, now. I no longer believe i'm changing the world for the better by putting songs out there, so it's tough to care, you know? Sorry if that sounds down, it isn't meant to!
I've no idea if i will have time to write any songs, it is pretty busy here in our house at the moment, but i'll be making the effort to keep doing the Offbeat radio show and playing exclusively FAWM songs from the last week of January until at least the first week of March.
Have a good FAWM everyone!
No songs by this fawmer (yet).
Thanks for playing The Hallucinated Libidinous Manatee on Offbeat 134, and with such an introduction, you made me the one and only Billy Shears for a day and that's quite something to me!
Thanks for featuring some of my writing on your radio show!
Calum. Great show. Thx for playing Hallelujah which was a collab with @cts and @mikeskliar . I hope your recovery is a speedy one.
Calum - I really enjoyed listening to Offbeat today. Hope your Covid stays mild. Thanks so much for including Demolition Expert by @andygriff and me.
My full name is Nancy Cunningham.
Thx for your work on the podcast...really good show. I don't mind you using my stuff...it will get a wider audience than my cat ! lol
Thanks for including one of my songs, when is the podcast going to be archived so I can listen?
Alright Calum. any ideas when the podcast for saturday's show will be available ? Unfortunately i missed the show live and have various mates who'd like to leap in for a listen. Cheers mate
My key to what I think McGoohan was doing with "The Prisoner" is in the phrase the fan club chose for its name "Six of One" - of course that phrase is usually completed by "... and half a dozen other other" - meaning basically "they are the same thing" so # 6 is also # 1 (as revealed in the last episode).
I read it as the outward manifestation of a psychotic or schizophrenic experience. Each episode takes the Prisoner further into his madness until the climatic confrontation with the mad # 1. Even having him played by another actor is just a further sign of this madness and also a hint that the same thing can happen to any of us. That we are never to take The Village as real is obvious from the printing press (a washing machine roller) and the transparent ball that stops his escape on several occasions, amongst may other inconsistencies with our actual experience of "normal" reality.
"The Prisoner" freed TV writers to come up with ever more bizarre representations of psychosis or the human condition. "Lost" owed a lot to McGoohan - but McGoohan would never have allowed that terrible cop-out ending of "Lost".
I see you watched "The Prisoner" - I try to watch it at least once a decade. You mention inconsistencies... If you share my interpretation of the show, there can be none :-)
thanks for playing one of my songs on your podcast!
Thanks for including a song of mine. Which one?
Alba go braigh!
Hey matey. Just checking what time your podcast show is on on saturday UK time. cheers loads for including one of my tunes. Hope it goes well
saw that post that you played a song of mine- thank you so much!!!! sooner or later I need to send you something, as we discussed way back- sorry, life keeps getting in the way!
I've written it down, thanks a lot! :)
Hey, I enjoy your podcasts a lot but since my FAWM is mere drafting (and I do full productions later), I do not enable the download. Can I contact you after FAWM when the album is done?
Thank you for your comments on my song The Wind Takes Me Home. I'm glad it doesn't sound trite!
I've missed these podcasts this year..
Are they still available?
Thanks for listening!
I was very surprised to hear this track of mine on your show : I really thought nobody listened to these albums - that don't meet any standard, not even regarding loudness. I know I'm repeating myself, but thank you so much for showing such consideration for my music, I mean it!
Again, it was an amazing show. Some of the tracks you played were mind-blowing.
Hey Calum, I’m always happy to be included on your ‘cast! I’m excited to take a listen on my long drive east. Cheers!
@calumcarlyle Hi I have just found FAWMcast and will listen this weekend.
If this is of interest https://fawm.org/songs/128746/
is my first ever set of lyrics set to music thanks to FAWM. Music and vocals kindly provided by @shallowcarrot.
I thought UK was dropping all restrictions. What’s happening in sunny Scotland? Hear you on Brexit. We had no vote at all in the Channel Islands but have to live with the result of the UK vote. Nil point as usual, And now the UK is asking for suggestions on which EU laws to repeal! It’s sheer chaos out there.
So excited about the FAWMcast! Thanks for choosing to play something of mine!
Thanks for your comment. I understand your anger with "the situation" there. BUT DO SOME SONGS!! ;-)
Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate your lovely feedback :)
Calum, thanks for including me in the podcast, and with a lot less time for FAWM this year I am doubly appreciative of your time curating and putting together a must-listen set of songs.
Thank *you* for offering me to record that session, it was a real pleasure. The show was great, as always. I enjoy very much the variety in genres. You must be listening a lot...
Also, it was funny to listen, because when Sirius heard you talking, he thought there was someone in the house and kept looking around him to spot the visitor!
I can someohow relate to what you say in your fawm bio, but I'm always pleased to hear some new music from you, so I hope you will be posting something.
Re: the FAWMcast, that's so exciting - thank you!
I took a day off work tuesday to write song#1 (having just an inkling prior of what it would be), and I built the song in a DAW in an ordinary way except, the chiptune part was made in the FamiStudio NES sound emulator, my first time trying it. The bpm's were supposed to be a match but the FamiStudio part had to be tempo scaled by 0.9988 to line up - whew!
Seriously - I share your feelings about song audiences. I still love the moment I do them, but it's only for the folks who are here. - That said, maybe I'll put "The Free Account That I Log In With" on my Soundcloud since the people seem to like it :-)
Thank u
Thanks for your comment! The pad is 106bpm but I chopped up the drum part so nothing really happens on the beat. Also no sequencer or click track so my playing/singing is, shall we say, quite creative with the time.
Thanks for listening and commenting, Calum!
Thanks for your comment on "Diplomacy". It screamed from the inside, I had to do this! And I'm glad you enjoyed!
Hope you will be FAWMing this year!
