Artist Bio

Influences:   Too many to name, including Van Morrison, Jann Arden, Joan Armatrading, Mozart, Gershwin, Lalo Schifrin, Alexandre Desplat, Hans Zimmer, and Nicholas Britell.

This is my 6th FAWM, and I love it more with each year. I'm slow at writing music, so my most productive FAWM saw only 10 pieces, but I seem to write my best stuff here, so I don't mind. I write mostly instrumentals, but have written some choral pieces as well.

I use Sibelius First, a music notation software to create my scores, then I post the Sibelius audio playback of them so, sorry, but I'm not playing any of those simulated instruments you hear.

I discovered the joy of songwriting at a Ladies' Rock Camp in 2012. I play a little piano, have learned some music theory, and have sung in many community choirs over the years.

As always, half the fun of FAWM is listening to a lot of great new songs written and performed by my fellow FAWMers, so you can bet I'll be doing a lot of that. Happy Fawming everyone!

thanks for your comments on my songs! grateful for all of them. And you said something about a 'kick in the pants' which cracked me up because I used to say that all the time! lol. hope to see you next FAWM!

  • @roblincoln  Apr 2022

First, thank you for your wonderful comments on my songs. Second, I am glad I came to check out your music as a result of your comments because I really enjoyed it. I like that you are using a classical approach. It all sounds great!

  • @skibum1066  Mar 2022

    Audrey,
Thanks for your comments on My song" My kind of Kids". It's a fun song to sing and was fun to write. I have streamed it as is. However, I am always open for upgrades. I like what you do with Sibelius. If you want to have some fun, Dress it up!

  • @hoppiern  Mar 2022

Thanks for listening to my songs and got your kind comments! I really appreciate it :-)

  • @vaseyr Mar 2022

Thank you so much for your kind comment on my song “Untitled” It means so much to me. I’m still working on my confidence in sharing my music and being vulnerable in that way so it’s truly touching to receive such lovely feedback. And I appreciate you letting me know about posting on peoples soundboards! I’ve been too shy to get involved with the community very much so I didn’t realize that was the way to communicate! Thank you for listening and for following

  • @electrocelte Mar 2022

Thank you thank you thank you Audrey, x a million, been working at it for 11 years now, trying to take this sound out of its box, if even just a little. Thank you for listening and I am glad you enjoyed it. Due to work commitments I have been trickling out my last few tracks slowly but surely.

  • @liz561  Mar 2022

Many thanks for your comments on my songs Down and The New Normal Sucks. They were really appreciated. I allowed myself this year to try different genres and I finally learned how to use drum tracks.

  • @davidsnyder Mar 2022

Thanks for your comment on my robot song! I am glad it made you laugh. That made my day! :)

  • @davidsnyder Mar 2022

Thanks so much for your comments on Nothing Left to lose Audrey. I have loved your instrumentals this year! :)

  • @dukemeyer  Mar 2022

Heya, many thanks to your wonderful comment to "Schafe (sheep)"!

  • @dukemeyer  Mar 2022

Heya, many thanks to your wonderful comment to "Schafe (sheep)"!

  • @pianoonthepatio Mar 2022

all good stuff! That's exciting that you're learning Ableton. I'm learning LogicX. Let me know if you do decide to put on Bandcamp or join 50/90! Would love to connect there. If not, see you next year! Watchlisting you. Maybe next year we can do a collaboration or something next time :D

  • @andygetch  Mar 2022

and thank you so much for the kind words and three listens as well :) .

  • @wrenarcher  Mar 2022

Hi Audrey. Thanks for taking the time to listen to a few of my songs. I'm hoping that I can re-record some of them and some from last year to put together a respectable EP. After listening to them again after a few weeks of posting them I'm thinking, "sheesh!... those are rough."

But thank you, for taking the time to listen and comment. One real quick bit of clarification. That song, "Winter of 1891"... except for the veiled references to Rodney King and MLK Jr, all other names are fictional. Not sure how I even came up with the name Daniels. I think it just fit within the rhythm and rhyme scheme of my guitar playing.

  • @pianoonthepatio Mar 2022

Hiya, nice to 'meet' you from one of the forums, and seeing that you're also still around for MALM! Been checking out your music and really loving it. Are you creating or collaborating still post-FAWM? or Joining 50/90? Would love to connect there too and see where you go with some of these songs!

  • @datsch  Mar 2022

Thanks for your comment. I totally agree repetition and rhyme make things easier to sing and remember, but perhaps sometimes it's good to be challenge just a little, too ... :-)

  • @mahtowin  Mar 2022

Thank you so much for listening to some of my tracks! I am glad you liked ke them - aspecialy my German spoken word tunes :-) I am always suprised when English nativ speakers give such kind comments to them! It seems the idea and the atmosphere comes through the music and my vocals.

  • @tuneslayer  Mar 2022

Thank you so much for stopping by and listening to my songs! I'm glad you liked them.

Vancouver to Colorado, eh? That's one loooooong drive.

  • @musicsongwriter Mar 2022

Likewise. Thank you for your kind comments and support. I appreciate it.

  • @stephenwordsmith  Mar 2022

Thank you for all your efforts in reading/listening to my work and leaving such kind and generous comments. Really warmed my heart.

  • @toms  Mar 2022

Elaine @elainedimasi wrote the lyrics to ANTS so I dunno, actually, if it's about Amazon or just pretty much every place I have ever worked in my life. :) Thank you for the listen & kind words!

  • @srcoops  Mar 2022

Thank you for your nice comments on Old Folks. Appreciated it.
Few come with a better perspective (I am 85 years old and that's real old)

  • @dragondreams  Mar 2022

No worries, Audrey. If you can work Sibelius, you'll pick up using a DAW quickly.
And there are other possibilities. I can transcribe parts to send you, or work from scores you send me... ;-)

  • @nadine Mar 2022

Thanks a lot Audrey! We're working on the Disco Blues but I guess we won't finish until this site is offline.

  • @sherrylynnlee Mar 2022

Thank you for your nice comments and for recommending my song <3

  • @tcelliott  Mar 2022

Re: DAMF - It means dumb ass mother effing which, you know, is kind of a self description more than anything. Thanks for the comment.

  • @siasa  Mar 2022

Hey Audrey, thanks so much for your kind comments on 'Hieroglyphic.' It's been great to get such positive commentary from such talented folks as yourself!

  • @dragondreams  Mar 2022

Thank you so much for your kind and generous words, Audrey. :-)
I think you and I are due a collaboration at some point. ;-)

  • @nadine Mar 2022

You're welcome, Audrey. I'm happy that somebody showed me a DAW after 2 years of composition with notation software and MIDI cause it opened up a lot of possibilities. There are professionals who work with virtual instruments for movies and video games - This has not been possible 15 years ago! These orchestral libraries are VERY expensive, but well, could somebody afford a real orchestra?! If you feel more comfortable with sheet music you can still export and import the MIDI files and do the finetuning on your DAW. I learned all by myself. No courses, no books, no videos - Trying things, collaborating and bothering people in online forums for years ;-) Good luck!

  • @crisp1  Mar 2022

Thanks for all your great comments, Audrey, and see you next FAWM!

  • @ambroise Mar 2022

Merci pour tes commentaires sur "manger de la poudreuse" et "la minute prodigue".

(Mes commentaires sur tes chansons sont en anglais parce que tes chansons sont en anglais. Mais j'aime te lire en français.)

  • @scubed  Mar 2022

Thanks so much for your comments on “The Spaces in Your In-Between” and “Summertime Memories”!

  • @mikehex  Mar 2022

Thanks so much for your comments on "I Reckon My Time Has Come" and especially "My Daughter Went to Totalcon". It's great to find someone who can relate to the situation. It's a weird feeling to be proud of someone close to you for doing something so clearly amoral (but doing it well!)

  • @ahumburg  Mar 2022

Thanks for giving my songs a listen, and for taking a minute to leave a comment on each. Awesome work with sibelius! I play by ear so I'm always a bit awed by anyone who can create scores. Each of your pieces is unique and evokes different emotion. Bravo!

  • @outinpublicdrummer  Mar 2022

thanks for the feedback! Looking forward to listening to your tracks :)

  • @ambroise Mar 2022

Merci pour tes commentaires, j'apprécie sincèrement.
I went through your work this year and left a comment on my absolute favorites. But I liked all of it.
It's been said many times, but your tunes are so cinematic ! You can't help but visualize a scene. Not just image but also camera mouvement, atmosphere, photography choice, and all the emotions that go with it.
Thank you for those moovie theater moments.
And thanks also for sharing, because I listened to the lambs...

  • @pippa  Mar 2022

And do you have an email address? I'm at [email protected]. I host a world music show on a community radio station (KOPN.org) featuring music from outside the borders of the USA. And would it be OK if I downloaded some of your FAWM tracks to share?

  • @yewnorker Mar 2022

Thanks Audrey for Singing Karaoke. Actually, some people take karaoke quite seriously. Laughing can be quite dangerous in some karaoke bars. As for me, I have no delusions.

  • @pippa  Mar 2022

Hi Audrey, thanks so much for listening and commenting on my tunes, because it brought me here. I listened to all your tunes. And I really enjoyed the listen.

  • @mikeb  Mar 2022

Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Tired of the Blues'!

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 2022

Dear Audrey, How nice it was to wake up and find so many kind comments from you! I am heading off to work now but look forward to hearing your music over the next few weeks!

  • @paulharrison  Mar 2022

Hi Audrey. Thanks so much for your nice comments on a couple of my songs! I especially appreciate your taking the time after the Februrary flurry to do more listening. I'm glad the songs seem to connect for you.

  • @jayjay  Mar 2022

Thank you so much for the lovely comments

  • @arthurrossi Mar 2022

I would like to thank you very much for your amazing and that thoughtful comment on "Yugoslavia"! I appreciate it a lot... and all regarding home and losing it what you said is absolutely true...

  • @paulotteson  Mar 2022

Thanks for all the kind words @audrey - It was a joy to be a part of FAWM for yet another year. I'm excited to dig into your tunes!

  • @leslie  Mar 2022

Thanks for your lovely comments! I'm all about the piano. And I love that you've got Jann Arden in your influences. Me too. I wish more folks outside this country knew her better.

  • @gregwere Feb 2022

Thanks Audrey for your kind comments on Running me 'round, I did as you said re: collaboration but my version says 'None' and won't let me type anything in - nor select from the list which seems to be an option. Thanks anyway - maybe I didn't set it up right in the first place.

  • @danvaillancourt  Feb 2022

Thank you so much for your beautiful kind words. ;)

  • @cindyrella  Feb 2022

Thank you for such wonderful comments!

  • @elesimo  Feb 2022

Here's my song as "Umbrella Uprising": https://fawm.org/songs/137420/

I didn't take the name literally, but I tried to make an interesting backstory.

  • @actualjulian  Feb 2022

Thank you so much for listening and commenting! May the FAWM be with you!

  • @altum Feb 2022

Thank you so much for your kind words, it's really appreciated. I'm glad to know people stick around here for a while after February, I'll definitely be doing that too.
Your compositions are great, it's so hard to keep attention and transfer a specific mood without lyrics, but you definitely succeed in that, well done!
Lots of my ideas begin in notation software too (guitar pro) so we have that part of the process in common.
Have you ever exported the midi data from Sibelius and toyed around with it in a DAW?

  • @shallowcarrot Feb 2022

Thanks to you too for your lovely comment on my song 'When the Fog Lifts' :)

Edit: Thanks for the love on my other songs too! And I'm a fan of your songs. They're all so beautiful and evocative. Hope you had a great FAWM, and definitely wish to hear more next year.

  • @radioovermoscow Feb 2022

Thanks! Yeah the change in lyrical angle wasn't really intentional, they're just the words that came out.

  • @dock  Feb 2022

I can appreciate your use of Sibelius to make the parts. I score using MuseScore and often have used their playback engine to make the mp3 backing tracks. I think I posted several songs last year that were generated that way. Kudos to you for being able to do that, too.

  • @steer Feb 2022

Thanks so much for your kind words!! Much appreciated

  • @davidsnyder Feb 2022

Thank you for your comment on my Kings and Queens song Audrey. That was so sweet.

  • @rubberbandage  Feb 2022

Thank you for listening, I’m so glad it could bring a smile to your face! The sailboat “race” that inspired it was at speeds of 5 mph or less, so I wanted a song of similar ease :-)
Really looking forward to listening to your compositions! I first used Sibelius on an AcornOS computer in the late 90s and was so impressed/intimidated!

  • @adambeiter Feb 2022

Thanks so much for the comments on my songs, they were so thoughtful! In regards to the inquiry if I'm Canadian, sadly I am not. But I've basically always lived in a region near to the border (I grew up in the greater Buffalo area and now go to college in Potsdam) and I'd say a disproportionate number of my favorite artists are Canadian: Joni Mitchell, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Leonard Cohen, Rush, The Tragically Hip, Barenaked Ladies and Matt Mays all come to mind. I also have a virtual friend from Nova Scotia that I met through the Fleet Foxes fanbase, and he and I have done quite a few musical collabs (long-distance of course). But I've always adored Canadian culture, especially the music. There's something really deep and inviting about all of it.

  • @soundblasted Feb 2022

Thanks for the comment on Rainbow Moonglow! That's my first fawm comment ever, so it means a lot! :)

  • @davidtaro  Feb 2022

Hi Audrey, thank you for the kind comments today! I really appreciate it :)

  • @wolfkier Feb 2022

Thanks for the kind words earlier today, much appreciated. Got you on my growing list of return visits over the next few days when I carve out some quality listening time. See you soon..... :)

  • @mikeb  Feb 2022

Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Molly Bloom!

  • @quork  Feb 2022

Audrey, thank you so much for your extended listens and comments. I appreciate your time and thoughts. It’s hard to believe you and I have been at this for six FAWMs now. I don’t know if you remember, but my daughter’s name is Audrey. I always appreciate your choral/classical pieces, and will give them a listen.

  • @guatecoop  Feb 2022

Hi Audrey, now that I've listened to one of your songs, I remember your lovely music from before! Actually, about 10 seconds in I remembered. It's funny how much I relied on the personal avatars for my memory of who did what! Anyway, back to listening....

  • @bjunker  Feb 2022

Thanks for stopping by to listen to Weather Report! It was really fun to find a selling for @hummingbear's words.

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Thanks a lot for your comment on the blues! @deadhead completely nailed it. We're polishing and mixing. I guess the title will change cause it will be a bit weird to name a song after yourself xD

  • @dragondreams  Feb 2022

Thank you so much for all the time you put in to inflicting my stuff on your ears, Audrey! I really appreciate it. :-)

And I've already taken onboard your comment about extending "Try as I might". ;-)

  • @cindyrella  Feb 2022

Thanks so much Audrey. You are so kind!

  • @elesimo  Feb 2022

Thanks! TBH it was a random selection, and I have NO IDEA what a band called "Uprising Umbrellas" would sound like — but I guess that's part of the challenge!

Maybe I'll right a political song using samples from umbrellas to do the rhythm. I could have them opening and closing, banging on the floor, and even running my nails through the cloth.

Off to sample an umbrella... :-P

  • @elesimo  Feb 2022

Hi, there! Is it OK if I use the name "Uprising Umbrellas" for the Fake Band challenge (https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12098/)? You invented it for the "A is for ABBA - Fake bands" thread (https://fawm.org/forums/topic/12018/).

    Thanks!

  • @nadine Feb 2022

As I told you before... "How are you" received a vocal update. Very nice, check out if you're curious!

  • @nadine Feb 2022

Thanks a lot for all the comments, Audrey! I'm happy you enjoy my music :)

@tinear did a great job on "Hollywood Queen". He revamped my lyrics an created a hell of a song. I am so happy with this random collab!

I usually don't listen to ballads. No idea why I have to write at least one every year xD Maybe "How are you" gets an update during FAWM.

I'm still stuck on the blues draft... Unable to find a cool rhythm and created new parts. I'll try again in the next days.

  • @daveyboy103  Feb 2022

Thanks for the kind feedback on Come on back to me.

  • @cindyrella  Feb 2022

Thanks so much Audrey for your kind comments!

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 2022

Sorry I didn't get to say "Hi" at the beginning of FAWM, but very happy to see you here!

  • @dragondreams  Feb 2022

I took early retirement at the end of March last year, so I seem to be living in my studio at the moment. That makes it a bit easier to hack out a few tunes. :-D
It's around 8.30pm here so I think I'd better stop for the evening and give my neighbours a break :-D

  • @dragondreams  Feb 2022

Thank you for all your kind words. :-)

  • @billgcaldwell  Feb 2022

Good to see you here Audrey. Here's to a successful FAWM 2022!

  • @tootoobee  Jan 2022

    Happy FAWMing! :o)

  • @hummingbear  Jan 2022

Great to see you back! Looking forward to this year's creations.

  • @seemanski  Jan 2022

Thanks for your video recommendation. I gave it a watch, couldn't believe it could be that simple!

  • @nadine Jan 2022

    You're welcome, Audrey.
The post-FAWM listening party has been one of my highlights. When you're done writing your songs you just hit the random button, search for tags or return comments. I found some really interesting people here, I didn't notice before.

Interesting that we share a similar workflow! When I started composing music, my notation software has been my best buddy. Now it's my DAW. But I will do something with my notation software this year, cause I have to learn tabs and notation anyway. I'm not good in instrumental playing and singing, but I like everyting before and after recording.

    Have a happy FAWM :)

  • @cindyrella  Jan 2022

    Audrey! Happy to see you!

  • @berni1954  Jan 2022

Welcome home! Let's hope you crack the 10 songs barrier this year!
    Cheers,

    Berni

  • @gm7  Jan 2022

    Welcome back!

  • @karlsburg25  Jan 2022

Hey lovely lady. Hope you have an amazing FAWM.

  • @zeekle1998  Jan 2022

    Happy FAWMing @audrey

  • @towanda Jan 2022

Hi Audrey! Thanks for the warm welcome! Love your influences; may February be a wonderful month for you :)

  • @dragondreams  Jan 2022

    Hi Audrey!
Lovely to see you here again. :-)

  • @quork  Jan 2022

Happy FAWMing, Audrey. Nice to see you back.
