Hello 2022 ! I am celebrating my 10th FAWM this year :)
I am Amanda and I'm a lyricist. I also compose a bit, shoot arrows a lot and sing very badly.
I am also more than a little bit mad, and FAWM is my annual chance to go nuts with lyrical subject matter !
I am one half of the band Future Kings Of Denmark, with @stevenwesleyguiles https://futurekingsofdenmark.com/home
Also the band Funkus Maximus with @coreystewart https://funkusmaximus.com
And for fun I run the weekly Wednesday and Saturday Skirmishes ! At 9pm GMT, aka 1pm PST, or 4pm EST.
I try to thank folks who leave comments on my songs by listening to their songs and leaving a comment in return, rather than leaving a ty on their soundboard :)
All lyrics here on FAWM are first drafts - I later edit endlessly.
Collaborations:
I love to collaborate with like-minded composers and musicians who enjoy working with my lyrics. I can give you lyrics cold, or I can topline to your bed track for you to sing.
There is a great post on the rules of collabing within FAWM in the Forums here: https://fawm.org/help/#collaboration
I will be following these as always and ask that my FAWM co-writers do so also.
Thanks for giving my music a bit of your time and for leaving a comment. Have a wonderful, creative 2022!
That's great. It is such a nice lyric, I await the results.
Hi Amanda ! It doesn’t look like it’s in the cards this year! I’m trying to squeeze in a skirmish today and then I have two shows tonight. :/
Oops I think I replied to your message on my own timeline yesterday instead of yours
That was very nice of you...I have to get over to the Forums more often!
Hi Amanda... the Unicorn was a gas filled balloon, floating above the child holding it on a string like a dog lead and occasionally pulling at the string to keep the unruly unicorn in check.
Thanks for all your kind words this month!
Hi Amanda, I'm afraid I've broken my Soundcloud link somehow, my idea wasn't really all that good so I'll have to leave it, sorry.
Hey Amanda, thanks a lot for your response on "Compare." :)
How I made it? I used this plugin to add delays and effects https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/effects/replika-xt/
And then I started with a kind of "Lip smack" sound for the initial beat. Making a "T" noise for the high hat with my tongue against my teeth. And a kind of open exhale (like a cough) to get the kick sound.
Once I had each percussive element I made them into loops and duplicated them in my DAW. And then sang over top. One track with the singing / talking lines, another as a kind of humming / chant (used Replika XT to pitch shift it down) and the other with lot of delay (ooohs.)
My best explanation I can give . haha
Hi Ajna, you've been so prolific! Well Fawmed! You asked to hear the music for my song for the 'Medicine' prompt so here 'tis!
https://fawm.org/songs/135833/
Indeed, the mug and other items are all available. ;-)

Thanks for hosting, that was fun!
Amazing! Congratulations on 43 songs!! I really appreciate your kind words about my tune Life Looks Like - it's pretty new territory for me -particularly the part about putting it out there for people (experienced FAWMers no less!) to hear it. I was going to scrap this song but now I'm glad that I kept on with it. Thanks and all the best!
Holy Moly Amanda!!! 42!!!!!
Done :)
Hi Amanda! Thanks for your nice comments on my "Don't Try" lyric. And I see you posted a mention in the lyric rec thread. Thank you for that! I am so bad about linking to other things, etc. My motto is that hopefully it connects with the right person one day!
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Never Too Young (to Rock and Roll)'!
As no one has yet claimed the SS022722f Noon GMT (4am PST, 7am EST) slot I would be glad to help out and host. Thanks for organizing! It's alot of work (I think of the cat herding analogy) the few times that I organized a 24 hour super skirmish. I did 48 hours once in 5090 but that was every four hours as we did not have many hosts. Oh so much more for one every two hours covering 60 hours or so. This is the longest one I remember LOL.
You can refer to mine if you like!
I reckon you would dare!
It was really a chat months ago trying to convince @Vivalarayna how good skirmishes were! Everyone kept saying dint worry there are no skirmish police! She did get right into them! I kept thinking but what if there were! Ha ha!
Try again on my Wave after Wave
Wow!
Thank you. You've also pushed me over the triple finish with this. Perfect! xxx
got your message
yes everyones similar titles looks like a big jumbled mess lolol
Did you ever get the tag for the updated slip jig? No rush or pressure if you did, I just want to find out because thus far no one I tagged has posted about it and I'm wondering if I need to post to people's soundboards.
haha @ajna1960 !! I know you !! ;-) I guess I'm not strictly a fawmling though because I did FAWM about five years ago but didn't do many tracks, lost my login deets so created a new account.! hope that doesn't make me fraudulent ! Thank for commenting and recommending me !! I really got into FAWM this time!! I see you were quite busy too !! :-)
Sorry, I didn't put the day in my skirmish header. Don't know if it matters but I can't edit it.
Yes, that looks right. I will set it up and test it because I had trouble with the edit option last time. Thanks :)
Hi Amanda, You have me as a provisional host for SS022622f Noon GMT (4am PST, 7am EST), but I did not request that time. I haven't been feeling my best lately so would prefer a later time. If you don't have a host for this slot, I can step in. I believe it is tonight at 9pm EST. Thanks, Andrea
SS022622a 2am GMT (25th 6pm PST, 25th 9pm EST)
Yeah, I might have to go back on my promise since this year has been way too creative and good for me I'll probably make a song about that.
Sorry, laid down for an hour's nap and woke up 6 hours later! I will double check but I think the times you gave me are fine. Will confirm ASAP
I've modded the post you flagged. Thanks for waving. What a mess...
Hey there - to answer your question about the 'hospital tea-tray' - what was I shooting for was that it's better to give your heart away in a romantic sense than to let it waste away in a physical sense. But I wanted to make the comparison brutal and I had the image of a diseased heart having been removed sitting on a tray in an operating theatre. But I couldn't think what that tray was called - there's no time for research - so I went with tea-tray because it scanned. Surgical tray, maybe? Not sure. Sometimes meaning must be sacrificed on the altar of fitting the gap I have!
It's up, I hope you like it
I was in Dublin. There were sounds around, but since I traveled there alone, and walked around alone, it was like I was in a quiet bubble.
The tennis game: Pong. Yes - that's the sound!
Sure, I'd be up for a collaboration. Anything specific in mind?
Thanks for your kind comments on "How I Long To Be a Quiet Man," and for the insight into what living in the Irish countryside is really like (I hope you didn't lose your leccy)! So many romantic fantasies of your homeland out there; do you get tired of being such an object of mass projection?
Ireland is musicified now https://fawm.org/songs/133563/
Thank you for such an ispiring prompt - It felt good - to write like that - something I thought I'd lost - it was just covered in some dust and grime. Thanks so much!
I added a picture of me playing one of my autoharps to the liner notes of Daidi's Ditty, so you can see what one looks like.
Thanks for the comment on my skirmish song. I figure the snakes had to go _somewhere_ when they left Ireland :-)
Hi Amanda, I did post our collab song to demo update in forum and also it fit into a challenge thread for keyboard arranger songs. I'm good with that.
I reckon I’m maxed out for FAWM - multiple collabs on the go, a bit worried about finishing them all off, if I’m honest :(
But super keen to chat post-Feb about everything, I’ll drop you a line, thanks Amanda!!
Definitely not quit! :-)
It was either that or "Double or nothing" as a title. ;-)
The piano is one of @aeye's custom patches for the Heavyocity Ascend Piano for the Kontakt library.
Thanks for your comments! :)
I love having word-geek friends. Thanks for listening and commenting. And especially thanks for sharing the etymology!
Thanks for mentioning "Clear As Crystal" in the recommendation thread! I've been enjoying the Wednesday skirmishes.
Hi there. Just sent you a demo... :)
Today is Tuesday, no?
Thank you Amanda! I'll get to work!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment that made me smile a lot... :-) and thanks also for the mention in the recommendation thread... you are too kind...
You're welcome. Now post someone else's lyrics so the thread starts getting some traction!
Hi! I wanted to stop by and tell you how much I appreciated reading your comments on The Meltdown. It's difficult to put into words what that means to me.
Thanks for your lovely comments - I hadn’t really thought about it, but the spoken parts are a cracking idea. The album that actually inspired it does a lot of this - like meditative whisper sing-talk haha, think I just made that phrase up
Thanks Amanda you are right.
That works for me! Thanks.
Thanks so much for listening to imitation game, saying nice things about it AND recommending it. You are 100% class
I would love to put music to one of your songs. I'll be on the look at for one that speaks to me.
Thanks for your comment! Here's the demo for "Pretty": https://fawm.org/songs/128394/
Thanks for ur comment on pretty. Yeah I’m screen recording myself live creating. I came up with the idea at the end of FAWM last year. Discovered YouTube quite a good site for uploading - free. And also the idea of writing from scratch I mean on the fly which I’ve had to work in .. so this FAWM I seem to have thrown myself into it. Also it’s the best way to explain how these apps work - as flexible tools not generally to do what they’re designed for!!
Hi @ajna1960 re my song My Home - yes the picture is what I used to wake up to daily in my formative years. I do miss the simplicity of living there... thanks for the listen and comment.
Thanks for the comments! Groundhog Day must sound a bit strange if you're not familiar with it :D
Forgive me for not getting back to you. It was a hard week and I dropped the ball.
Yep! Bung me the chord chart!
Thank you Amanda. That sounds amazing.
Yes, singing something really abstract and weird sounds great. Whatever is fun for you, is good with me!
Alas, the drum rhythm is a looperman loop. Wish I could play the drums!
Thank you again. :-)
It was the Moeck tenor - the one in the pictures on the other songs. It's the only one I've been using so far, but I've promised (sort of) Tim Fatchen that I'll do one with one of the bass recorders soon.
Aww, thank you. :-)
There's an explanation of "fipple" on my opening track...
https://fawm.org/songs/125338/
fantastic prompt on the skirmish! I never tried one before but really enjoyed that!
EDIT: Nevermind - I just saw your post. I'll pick another time!
Hi, Amanda! I wanted to check in and see if you planned to host Wednesday skirmishes again. If not, I'd like to offer my hosting services, but I didn't want to take up your space. Happy FAWNing!
Hey Amanda, love the eclectic taste. There's nothing worse than limiting yourself when it comes to music appreciation :-)
Happy FAWMing!
Happy 10th FAWM! This calls for cake.
I managed to hold on right up until the end of 50/90 but the last few weeks were a slog for me. I had actually almost stopped at 49 songs but then a few collabs were posted and got me over the 50 song mark.
Fáilte! Look forward to your output this year!
Hi Amanda! As for vocals, if you're willing to sing then I say go for it. I'm supposed to be on vocal rest and after chatting everyone's ears off in the Zoom chat last night I'm remembering why. I'm going to keep an eye out for a singing Flying V, like my FAWM Where's Waldo.
Hello! Looking forward to another February filled with your wonderful words! I'm focusing on a very personal and specific theme this year (kidney stones), but if you've ever experienced them (which I hope you haven't) or otherwise have an interest in writing about them, make sure to let me know! :D
In terms of genre, raggae is something that is at the forefront of my mind, but also soft rock, and country.
It is almost time... My cabasa is at the ready (wishing it was a VibroSlap) :)
Hi Ajna, I’m still getting used to the FAWM website, it’s a real flashback for me :-)
And I’d love to collab! I know your a lyricist… I’m trying to make this FAWM all about happy things, only happy songs, good feelings, relaxing, easy, good vibes, etc. So if something in that world falls from the sky and onto your lap, I would be happy to see it rolled in my direction.
Or, if your looking for someone to add to your stuff on your end, I’d be happy to hear from you too :-)
Hi Amanda,
I'd love to work with you re: percussion during and post FAWM! Looking forward to hearing what you cook up this February :)
Lovely to see you back partner !
Howdy Miss Amanda! Let's see how this here FAWM goes this year and maybe you and me can cook up a song together! That sounds like fun. I gotta be careful about promising though cause I could get hit by a garbage truck tomorrow! :D
Have a wonderful FAWM, Amanda!
Happy FAWMing Amanda!
Warm as can be for the frozen wilds! Have a great FAWM!
I always found it tricky in Hindi..."Does Sir speak to this person?" Hi Amanda and how DID you collar the heavy metal guitar machine??
Woohoo and yoohoo! We're here! :-)
Hello to you, Amanda (I thought I'd use your preferred pronoun... Twice, in fact)
