This will be my thirteenth year doing FAWM (missed one when I was moving). I've no idea how this FAWM will go. I've moved to Mexico, but will be making frequent visits north of the border to spend time with my family and friends (If these COVID restrictions ever end!) I'm trying to settle in to a very different culture, putting a house together. I came with two suitcases, which at least contained my computer and a microphone, and my little ukulele, which I still can't play well, but I love it anyway!
My house is big and echoey, which will either be good or bad, and during the daytime there are the sounds of horses clip clopping on the cobblestones, dogs barking, roosters crowing, and cohetes exploding, as well as mariachi music and workmen remodeling... I expect I'll be doing a lot of late nights if I want any quiet at all ;) but, what else is new, I’ve always been a night owl!
The internet here is abysmal, which could make skirmishes more of a challenge than they already are, but hey,
I'm just here for the fun and inspiration!!
Should you wish to join me in a collaboration just let me know first. I do ask that I get a copy of the music file sent to my email, as well as any where you’ve added vocals. I like the chance to do that too. Hope that doesn't discourage anyone :)
Totally open to after FAWM Collabs as well!
Oh, and by the way,
It's Sheila - Sheiler K
Christened by East Coast friends
Who can't pronounce A...
(at least, when it comes at the end my name!)
Somehow an R seems to slip in there uninvited ;)

Ignore this message. I confused myself.
Hi Sheila, thank you so much for your very encouraging words on my songs. I have to admit that I haven't been back to FAWM since February finished, busy with work etc, so it really was a pleasant surprise! My songs are very much one-off quick writes, but the material I do with my neighbour (Sapient as he is in FAMWland) are much more polished. We did another album this year of Space Rock and you might like it. You can find it on the usual platforms, but also on the Bridge11 band camp page. The new one is called "Beyond" and if you like space, and songs, it might be for you! Thanks again and I hope the sun is shining in your part of the world. Gordon
Thanks for some great comments on my stuff.
I got a YouTube video up for Lip Service. Check it out if you like.
Aw, you watchlisted me when FAWM is already over. That's a huge compliment. :D I'm glad you liked the lyrics you looked at. I was really hoping to get more recorded this year, but I've been a bit burned out in general since January. I see someone already mentioned filk to you, so I hope to see you around elsewhere. ;)
Thank you so much for the detailed comments on my songs. I really think you would enjoy being in a filk circle where people “get”:references mainstram listeners might not. One starts in Portland OR at 10 am Pacific today - check friendsoffilk.org for the link. Very friendly folks. I will probably drop in near the start. You can just listen but you sure have songs that would be appreciated. Filk accepts everyone regardless of ability so be prepared for the full range from fully professional to keep your day job. Cecilia Eng in Portland is an internationally beloved and respected filker and she will be the host.
Thanks a lot for your comment on "Love lasts forever"! I enjoyed doing something completely different... but my FAWM stuff are just sketches with programmed instruments and bad singing waiting for people to perform it better than me :D I'm a way better producer and arranger. Let's see what happens. I'm happy that many people enjoyed this song, so maybe someday if I got the skills I try again. But I don't feel confident ith the recording quality yet.
You are a lovely lady, Sheila! Thanks for commenting on Donna's lyrics. I enjoyed setting them to music. Have a nice spring season!!
Thank you for the lovely and kind comments you left for two of my pieces. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to them. It means a lot. :)
Thanks so much for your lovely comments :)
Wow...thanks for listening (in March, no less) to a couple of my songs. I really appreciate your comments and encouragement! I hope Mexico proves to be a great place for a new chapter.
Thanks for the explanation, Sheila! I did FAWM a long while ago but am pretty new at all this, so thanks!
Thank you for your kind words on "Traffic Light Blues"!
Thanks for your comment on "Band" - that 1963 line (in fact that whole verse) is basically right out of "Windfall" by Son Volt :D
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Running Out of Time'!
I cannot believe I didn't have you on my watch list, lovely fae lady. I've remedied that now!
Thank you Sheila. Looking forward to reading your lyrics.
Your idea of a song cycle about your life sounds brilliant. I hope you go with it.
I got my Dad to start writing his autobiography when he was in his mid 70s. Sadly, he never finished it, but the early chapters he did write in which he recounts his childhood in Liverpool and his days as an able seamen on merchant ships during the Second World War are fascinating documents to hand on to future generations.
Sheila, thank you so very much for your kind words on my songs! You have made my day! I will be catching up very soon and your song page is on my list!!!
I got there from Quiet Rain by water imagery: Trickling, Veiled, Monsoon, Rapture on grounds, Tears, Wrath of Sky.
Quiet Rain made me think of such things. :)
Thank you for commenting on A Waggling of Tongues. I only found Pheme and Fama by doing some online research about Rumour. P.S. in this book, the faeries are squirrels by day.
Sheiler, thanks so much for your lovely comment about "Leaving Here Now (blues in G)". Far from finished! Love your lyrics for "Make Bad Art"! Another possible theme song for FAWM?
Thank you..Ollie says " woof"!
Thank you for the warm welcome!
Thanks for your nice comments on my Get Home To You lyrics. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment
Simon
Thank you for your kind comments on "The Sun Behind The Rain". You've moved to Mexico? How delightful! What part? I'm from the ast Coast (Delaware) and I'm pretty sure I don't add an R to Sheila. LOL.
Thank you Sheila! I’m so happy to read your comment on my song, “Otter.” This dream has stuck with me for a while. Otters make me happy I’ll be sure to let you know when there is music. Im looking forward to listening to your music too!
Glad you liked my Gretel & Hansel (& Brenda).
I worked out the basic plot in my head "betwixt sleep and wake" (I didn't want to disturb Carmen by getting up). I got the two main protagonists to the house of the "witch/bitch" and even had Gretel looking round for a murder weapon. That much I wrote as soon as I got up. But I was stumped as to what happens next. I didn't want it to degenerate into a murder ballad. Then the line about Brenda extending the offer to Gretel came to mind and the last verses almost wrote themselves. The moral section was a bit of a coda, but I think it works well. Fables usually end with the moral, after all :)
Thank you so much Sheila. You are very kind
Hi! I wanted to stop by and tell you how much I appreciated reading your encouraging comments on my songs!!
Oh! and also your encouragement on the ADHD forum, which I didn't see before posting my previous comment, lol.
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comments on "Lip Service!" So great to have you come by!
Thank you so much, Sheila, for your comment on my collaboration with Donna! I appreciate it :) I would LOVE some sun from Mexico right now!!
Hi Sheila, thank you for your comments on my songs, much appreciated.
Thank you Sheila for your kind comment on my lyric. I've composed music after reading the comments with suggestions, including yours. Thank you for your encouragement.
Sheila! I still owe you a uke recording of our cat song, don't I? I completely forgot about it, sorry.
I really appreciate you checking out "Together" and "Clear" and leaving the kind comments. "Clear" in particular because I'm glad you were able to see something through the posted-too-early mix butchery. :-)
I hope you are well. I'll be back soon to check out your FAWMing!
Glad you liked my Story Cube song. As soon as I got the bricklaying bit out of the way - "Hey the protagonist is a bricklayer who dreams of being a pirate" - the song almost wrote itself. The other details had to be part of his story and so suggested the incidents I outlined. The Scots accent came to me as part of the character and gave me the rhyme that ended "Auld Reekie" - a local slang term for Edinburgh.
Thanks for the comments. The lyrics are on the first rendition of Wait on Me. https://fawm.org/songs/125874/
This is the first time I've shared vocals and lyrics for someone else to do other parts.
Thank you so much for your kind comment!
Hi Sheila, I sent it to you right now.
Have a nice weekend.
Nadia ~
No rush, as always. Thank you Sheila. I always enjoy collaborating with you.
So yeah. Let's write a song together. At some point. :D
Hi Sheila. Thank you so much for your warm comment on my skirmish piece. No one asked and I'll be delighted to collaborate with you. I'll add you if you are happy to.
Thank you so much for your that kind words on "One-way-street"!
LOL. I unintentionally met the challenge before I even saw it. I'll tag it. Thanks for the heads up! :)
My "Witch" was not a specific historical figure, but rather a generic figure who represents all the anonymous women who lost their lives because they couldn't conform to the patriarchal view of what women should be.
Watch out USA,
Gilead is on its way!
Ha! I was going to do snakes in the sand but I thought images of several snakes in the sand might be scary for kids (and me!)
They’re on the way! Happy FAWMing!
Thanks for giving my first song this year a listen (Cosmic Dance). Can't wait to see what you have to offer this year.
Hi Sheila, thank you so much for tunning in so beautifully into my first piece. I appreciate your opinion very much.
Hi Sheila. Flappy FAWM. Hope we collab again this year.
I am glad you gave my (off site) Groundhog Day song a listen and liked it. I thought you might
Hiya Sheila! Happy FAWM, my friend! Excited to see what you create this time around! Ready...To...Go!
You’re welcome! Happy fawming!
Sheila! I've often thought of you, wondering how you're finding life in your new home in Mexico. I'm so envious! Lovely to see you here.
Hi Sheila. :-)
Lovely to see you here again.
Peewee is with me on my chair as I type this. Booboo is out marauding (or asleep in the greenhouse).
We had a follow-on storm last night, but George stayed upright this time - and my makeshift drainpipe repair held.
Looking forward to some tunes! Not long to go now (27 hours before the site opens for me yet). xx
Hey, thanks for your comment! I like the muse tools as well. Some of my best friends among my songs sprung together from there.
Have a great FAWM!
And yeah, 27.5 hours in my time zone! :-) :-)
Hey Sheila! Big fan of your lyrics. Hoping to add tones.
Hello Sheila. Thank you so much for your heartfelt message and support. I always enjoy collaborating with you and I'm too very fond of each collaboration we had. Looking forward to hearing your beautiful songs.
Welcome home, Sheila!
Hi Sheila! the years go on despite the WorldShambles! We're back! (take THAT, Grim Reaper!)
