Influences: Folk, Indie, Pop, Gospel. Music of life. I listen to an eclectic mix. Love strong female singer/songwriters. Dar Williams, Reba McIntyre, Abigail Washburn, Indigo Girls, Pink, Beyoncé, Lizzo, Crys Matthews and many of you! Beth DeSombre and Becky Warren's music were introduced to me through FAWM.
(Pronouns: she/her/hers) Soprano and storyteller with mediocre guitar and keyboard skills who loves making up tunes and singing with other folks. I am in the process of ending a marriage of over 25 years and have two transracially adopted teenagers. Avid reader, puzzler and boardgamer.
This is my SEVENTH FAWM! What!?! Six years ago, I joined mainly to listen to and support a friend....And now, I have connected to other Boston area songwriters, done a bunch of open mics, and written over 40 songs that I would not be embarrassed to perform in public.
I am open to collaboration. Your work belongs to you, and my lyrics/vocals belong to me. I will respect your work and give you credit for what you have done.

Hi Colleen, thank you for your comments on Spaceship coffeeshop and input on the distortion! Hope you had a lovely FAWM this year :D
Too bad we didn't get to collab this FAWM! I got a bit crazy the last week of the month with moving. Maybe during 50/90!
Colleen, I'm stopping by to say thank you one more time for "Heart to Full" -- I love it and am really happy we got in a collab this FAWM. You worked with a lot of great lyric writers this time! I'm sure you know how much it means to us all, but I'll say it anyways -- it means a lot that you are willing to work with us! Thank you!
I'm in your neck of the woods at MA Eye and Ear, Colleen. You aren't playing on a street corner somewhere I could swing by, are you? :)
I was simply blown away by your song Taken Away and apparently I totally missed a great deal of your tunes. I shall rectify that inequity!
Dear Colleen,
Thank your again for sharing your kind comments, sharing such lovely music, and, of course, for your collaboration! I really appreciate it. You know I love love love you music! And am so glad I met you in Boston a few years ago. I look forward to future collaborations! Liz
Absolutely, Colleen! Sorry if my delay in responding gave you the impression I'm not interested in partnering up sometime. I can assure you that I am! :)
Colleen,
I'm glad you liked My Man of Few Words. I thought Susan gave a really heart-felt performance. I love listening to it.
Thank you very much for your kind words on "Good and bad girls"! It was great fun to write these lyrics and I am very happy what Klaus did with them... :-)
Thank you for dropping by and commenting. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Emerald Eyes' - I had no idea what color your eyes are! LOL
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Madness'!
Thank you very much for stopping by and leaving the kind comment on, "Caped", Colleen. It is much appreciated. Are you on the western side of the state by any chance? :)
I would like to thank you sooooooo much for the wonderful song that you created for "It is raining"! The melody is so beautifully tender and the lovely guitar background lets your great vocal abilities shine through gorgeously. I like how you also convey the feel of vulnerability here, you really have a special gift... Thank you very, very much...
Thank you so much for your extraordinarily kind words on the lyrics "It is raining". I appreciate it a lot! And yes, of course, it would be a great honour to me if you gave it a try... :-)
Hi, Colleen, Thanks for your comments on A Man I Don't Know.
I, too, am a sucker for a sexy voice! Those musicians and singers are dangerous to the faint of heart! :)
Thanks for stopping by and taking a listen to into the well!
Loved your call web with green grass girl about friendship! Wonderfully sung and performed!
Ok, the double misspelling is pretty funny. Getting someones name wrong is a subject with some songwriting potential, no?
Just an observation, we don't have a lot of stylistic overlap, but going off your comments on Descent, how about something in a synth-pop route, something like a Tears for Fears style. I think I could work something out in that direction that would compliment your voice. I would love to attempt to harmonize with you, but that might require a bit too much back-and-forth.
My email is in my profile.
Thanks for the comment on 'The Perfect Take'!
Thanks for your kind comments on "We Don't Have a Clue" and "Be There for Me"!
thanks for the lovely comment on Stranger with Memories Colleen <3
Hi Colleen, I thought of a couple lines changes for I Don't Want to Talk. Is there a place I can email them to you? Thanks, Andrea
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'We Don't Have a Clue'!
My electric uke is a Vorson solid body with dual pickups. I am trying to explore it more this FAWM.
Hi Colleen, thanks for posting Shangri-La on the recommendation thread. Hope you are having a great FAWM. It seems that way…
Hi Colleen, I am excited to collaborate on I Don't Want to talk. Please let me know if you need me to make any changes. Thanks so much :)
Hi Colleen, I would love to collaborate. Do either of these interest you:
I Believed I Could Fly (version2) or I Don't want to Talk? If not, I hope to write more lyrics before the end of the month.
Haha I gotchu! I fully appreciate the liner is way more entertaining than the song :D
Thanks for your very kind comments on my lyrics. Much appreciated!
Sounds great, thanks!!
Thanks! I like your idea of the bridge! If you have the bandwidth or the interest to play around with it, I would love it!
As far as I'm aware, "Orange Chameleon" is a particular strain's name. I'd never heard of it either, but the lizard thing made me choose it. :)
wow Colleen, great job, and so fast too, thankyou so much :-)
sounds good, :-)
Hi Colleen, maybe see which one strikes the best chord with you and go with that, I am sure either one will work well for you :-)
How about this one?
WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE
INTRO
Dancing in the shadows
Looking for the light
Wondering if the time has come
To run or just take flight.
Feeling like a loser
War and love again
Pointing every finger
At who should take the blame.
CHORUS
When it comes to love.
There ain’t no sense
In trying to figure
What makes the dents
To live with imperfection
You have to die a lot
Your head it cries denial
Your heart says it is not.
VERSE
Oh stupid one
You tell yourself
I’m insecure
I’m on the shelf.
But call it time
Call it space
This ain’t a trial
It ain’t a race
CHORUS
When it comes to love.
There ain’t no sense
In trying to figure
What makes the dents
To live with imperfection
You have to die a lot
Your head it cries denial
Your heart says it is not.
VERSE
Here’s to you
Oh tortured soul
The act of love
Is not control
It’s just a time
And just a place
It’s foolish gold
That leaves a trace
CHORUS
When it comes to love.
There ain’t no sense
In trying to figure
What makes the dents
To live with imperfection
You have to die a lot
Your head it cries denial
Your heart says it is not.
MIDDLE
We know it’s age old
We know the score
It’s like a game
It’s like a chore.
It’s like delusion
But it’s so real
A piece of fiction
That will reveal
If it’s a mirror
Or just some glass
Something forever?
Or just repast.
The game is bitter
The game is sweet
On every corner
Of every street
In every village
And every town
They build the barriers
That will come down
CHORUS
When it comes to love.
There ain’t no sense
In trying to figure
What makes the dents
To live with imperfection
You have to die a lot
Your head it cries denial
Your heart says it is not.
Thank you for your comments on “Silver” & “Lilith of the Sea.” <3
Thanks for the comment on 'Two for the Road'.
Think there is a chance for a 'FAWM-over' this year?
Thanks so much for you comment on “The Last High School Romance,” and for letting me know you’ve added demos! I’m about to work my way through them! I’ve genuinely been looking forward to hearing your work again since last FAWM.
Colleen, I would love you to take a swing at something of mine before the end of Feb :-)
Thanks a lot for your comment!
Colleen,
Thank you so much for your superb music and vocals on Friendship Hurts if You Do It Right. I couldn't be happier! Patty.
thank you!
Pinged you an email back :) it’s FANTASTIC!
Well that was easy Ha! That would be awesome :) feel free to do some tweaking as I know it could be a bit difficult to fit to music in current structure
I don't really know what glitches you hear, but the song sounds great to me, Colleen. Awesome vocal dynamics and such a sweet melody. Another keeper! Yay!
Haha you're right, I definitely have a tendency to write break up songs, so it would be a good challenge to write something happier!! I'll try come up with an initial idea or two and bob you an email, and likewise if you've got some thoughts just drop me a message :)
Thanks for your lovely comments, glad you liked the last verse, I tried to flip it around a bit! I’d love to write a song together again this year if you have any ideas ? X
I like the idea of a twisted Dr. Seuss... that tends to be some of my free writes haha... demo is up for hung up to dry!
Hi Colleen,
Thanks for your comments on my I Hate My Commute lyrics. I had fun writing it and it's great to hear that you enjoyed it
Simon
I would love that, Colleen! Thank you!
Thanks for your great comments on Under a Darkening Sky, Colleen. You saw something I didn't even notice -- the guitar/hourglass correspondence. Those lyrics came out of my unconscious (or whatever you want to call it!). It'll be fun to see what Andy Balham does with them.
Well, honestly, I have fun making all the things in FAWM! Thanks for the kind words. Hope you are doing well!
Thanks for visiting Time of the Bomb; call and response would be such a cool way to do that track; perhaps it will happen. I'm sticking to collabs this round, as I do not have time to do any instrumental work (as I'm moving in March!) but I look forward to maybe working together on something!
Thank you so much for your comment on “Oh Sisyphus.” <3
Sent!
Any chance I can send you a lyric I've just written with you in mind? :)
Thanks for your kind comment on “Stuck in my Throat.”
Thanks for the comments on A World of Quiet Beauty, Colleen!
Lovely to see you here. Appreciated your note in the forum and sending you heartfelt wishes for smooth and supportive transitions to new chapters.
Happy to see you again, fellow Bay Stater!
Hi Colleen, it's Tassja from the FAWM meetup. Glad we're here together. Nice to e-meet you :)
Colleen, So great to hear from you. I still love all the songs we did together and I'm looking forward to doing more! Glad you're here!
Now, I just have to figure out where to post the lyrics!!
Happy FAWM! I’m looking forward to hearing your songs again this year!
Hey,
Looking forward to hearing your stuff this year, as always :) hope you have a good one!!
Hope you have a great FAWM Colleen!!
Happy FAWN 2022, Colleen!
Hi Colleen! I hope you have a wonderful FAWM this year :)
Hi, Colleen! Happy FAWMing!
